Film & 40s: Film & 40s: Rocky IV

Would probably have the audio sync pretty well if you had movie audio playing for the opening lion roar or about 20 seconds early on in the movie. It wouldn't be long enough to be annoying, long enough to notice and fix issues, and it would remove the concern about being out of sync early on in the process.

This was great, I want more of these, for any movie, for all the movies, whatever, just give me more. I actually sat down and re-watched Rocky 4 just to have this audio track to it. Movie still holds up super well, and hearing Dan's enthusiasm, and Drew's immediate conversion for it is really infectious. Awesome feature Dan & Drew!!

Mike Tyson is a convicted Rapist Dan. As in he was proven Guilty for Raping an 18 year old and was sentenced to 6 years in Prison.

This is on Candian Netflix in case anyone was wondering. This was awesome, please do more, lots more! It was like watching a movie with a bunch of buddies in the room.

Except the west had fuck all to do with that and it's a win for the former Soviet countries more then anything. And it's not like the Military power of Russia is all that much smaller then The Soviet Unions seeing as how they had most of the power to begin with.

The fall of the Union has had, by far, the biggest effect on the countries that became independent so no, it's not a pretty huge fucking win for the west since in the end it doesn't matter for the west what the eastern block of Europe looks like. And stop talking in present tense like all this cold war shit with east and west still is important.

Maybe it's important for the US since they always need a bogeyman(made up or not), but the rest of the world has moved on since then.

I love the shit out of this movie. It's one when it's on tv, I can not help but watch. Also great feature guys.

This was fun. I rented the movie on iTunes and managed to sync it perfectly. Apollo's fight entrance is the best scene in the movie.

We need more of these!

Even though all the wrestling talk is sometimes annoying Dan more than makes up for it by being completely right about all things Rocky and Red dead redemption.

Rocky IV IS on Netflix here in Canada at least (as well as all the other ones) So if you're confident that buffering won't be a problem, you've got that!

I liked how you guys would bring the audio in every 20 mins, helped me keep in sync. Also Rocky's abdomen doesnt look like something that is possible.

Edit: You should also do one for Fight Club.

I have never seen a Rocky film and don't want to listen to this until I do. Should I just watch Rocky IV first, or is that insane?

This was the first time I've ever watched a movie with a synced commentary track and it was really great. Not that I needed much excuse to watch Rocky IV again. Also, shoutouts to Canadian Netflix for actually being worthwhile for once (though it does have other classics like Terminator, Robocop, and Universal Soldier too).

Dude, this was rad as fuck. My first time seeing this movie, and I see it with Dan, Drew, and a couple of beers. Great movie, great commentary. Keep this feature going, please.

Some kids watch Barney over and over, some watch Disney films. I watched Rocky IV everyday as kid. Awesome

Yea Dan's idea that Apollo Creed was fighting for America is pretty off. He was like those people that spend there whole life in prison and when they finally get out they can't cope with it so they go back to prison or kill themselves. Apollo just couldn't live with the idea of him not being a fighter so he committed suicide against Drago. It had nothing to do with America.

I love all the new ideas you guys are bringing to the table. Hope to see more of these in the future!

Wow, Dan took all of the wrong lessons from Apollo Creed, but it explains Dan's behaviour a lot. Seriously, Creed's flashy showmanship is not really meant to be admired and is supposed to be a counterpoint to the understated confidence that Rocky has, but perhaps Dan had already watched too much wrestling by the time he saw this movie.

And yes, Dan, we get it, you like the pageantry and showmanship of boxing more than the sport of it. You should probably read up more on Muhammad Ali, since Apollo Creed was mostly based on him. Tyson was an alright boxer, but outside the ring he's a clown and his behaviour is disgraceful. Ali would lay down some smack talk but is a way better dude overall.

He's not a bad character, but he's deliberately always portrayed as a character who is concerned with what others think of him, as opposed to just being focused on excelling at the sport he's a part of. When Rocky suggests they delay the fight, Apollo is more concerned about how much face that he would lose than if it would actually give him a better chance at winning against Drago.

The one thing I feel like this movie is missing is at least one brief scene of Apollo training for the Drago fight. He's been retired for 5 years, and even though they show him in his pool still looking pretty ripped, it still seems kind of silly that Apollo just comes out of retirement with little to no practice and expects to still be a great boxer against a much younger opponent who has been sparring and competing in matches constantly for the last few years.

The fight scenes in the all of the movies are reasonably well done, though rewatching 4, Rocky and Drago don't even look that beat up at the end compared to how beat up Rocky and Apollo look at the end of Rocky 1.

Anyway, I just didn't think the character stuff in 2, 3, or 4 was done anywhere near as well as in the first film. Rocky 2 was a lot of him building a family with Adrian and it didn't do much for me, Rocky 3 was a weird amount of grappling with being a celebrity (and the part where Mickey was match fixing) and kinda slightly dealing with Mickey's death and then also Rocky learning the "black" way of boxing, then Rocky 4 barely has any character stuff aside from "oh no Apollo died" then there are like a zillion montages. Rocky 4 is almost cartoonish, though boy it sure is a great 80s movie, in the way that so is Commando.

I've still never seen Rocky 5 or Rocky Balboa.

My only suggestion is you guys talk a little more during the movie, but i understand if you want to keep quiet and listen to the film (which is why i turned on subtitles for this ;) )

So why am I seeing Tall Boys in the picture and not 40s?

This was...OK. Interesting, fun, and glad they did it but there was far too much dead air. There were points where I would forget I was even playing this...not something you want with commentary or an audio track.

I can't really fault Dan and his love for Rocky stuff. I am the same way with Ghostbusters, which I still believe is the only movie I can describe as "perfect". I still want to be a Ghostbuster when I grow up.

I hate this movie so much because Apollo dies.

I rented it though so I could listen and this was great. It syncs up really well with the video on Amazon.

At least I know next time you do one of these it won't be a movie I hate as much as Rocky IV.

They should do the Raid for the next one since Dan has never seen it.
