You can at least rate Xbox Indie Games and IGN list their top picks.

His Minecraft comment about the only cool things being built are done in editors is a bit glib. Yes, some of them are but a lot of them are all created in game.

Seriously, I could listen to Paul Barnett talk all day. Although I think he needs to play Minecraft for himself.

Everything Paul Barnett says about crazy games always seems so profound.

This guy seems so reasonable and well-opinioned. Why does he work for EA?

It bothers me that he's talking about money and business. I guess it's a different view and it's interesting, but I don't want to hear about that really.

I don't get "Digital" at all. It's like in adventure games when I click around everything, trying to find out how to progress, except the entire game is that. I'm not even sure if I "finished" it but the BBS is busted and I don't know if she got my last reply. Then again who cares, I don't even know what I wrote her or what we were talking about and I probably downloaded some malware because the game forces you to do it which is absolutely lame. Man, I need a walkthrough for this.

@BenderUnit22:
I'm a little bit after that, where I have to guess a password for a BBS and people on the internet will not say the password in walkthroughs and just say "YOU CAN GUESS IT DURRR". It's a neat game, but since I was born after the age of BBS's, it doesn't resonate with me.

Yes, and after more than one mention of it around here this week, I decided to check it out last night. Got sucked into it for quite a bit of my evening. Totally loving it!

Now that I finished Digital seconds ago, I'm still not feeling it. I guess there must be something to the game for me to finish it, but the "gameplay" is with a handful of exceptions mindless clicking around until you find the point that advances the story.

Plus, while the interface may be appropriate for 1988, it's just the biggest pain in the ass to navigate. Enter your local line, fuck, I didn't open the notepad first, start again. Now enter the c0dez, oh crap, it's not valid anymore, try the next one, so local line again, c0dez, now the BBS, here we go, log in. Ok, nothing new here, next BBS. Oh shit, the last code has expired, get new one's so back to the other BBS and oh fuck I forgot the notepad again...

Also, Emilia, ever heard of copy-paste?

I'm 'playing' it at the moment too and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. He claims it takes about 8 minutes but I've been at it for a good 40 minutes. Am I doing something wrong or did he not play the game?

Half of the games he adored for innovation, and the other half for their sales strategy.  Definitely a perspective of someone in the game-making business.

Paul Barnett might very well be the man with the best stories. Ever. He should start his own audio book series where he simply talks about his everyday life in the video game industry. I'm sure a book would work too but I enjoy his voice so much. I swear, I could listen to that man talk all day. Funny, insightful, always interesting. Yeah, I have a serious (manly) nerd-crush on this fella.

So I've been going back and re-listening to all of the game of the year podcasts (while I play torchlight 2) in preparation for 2012 GOTY. I have to say... as much as I love Paul, he was totally off about minecraft in a lot of ways. People didn't buy minecraft because it was an ironic thing to do. They bought it because it was fucking brilliant. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have been as successful as it is. Also, I've lost entire weekends to that game. It's the kind of game you start playing on a sunday morning and then the next thing you know, it's fucking dark outside. Hardly a game you play for 2 hours and never touch again. Unless you're the kind of person that hates fun, freedom, ect. (im being a smart ass about that last part, if you couldn't tell).
