Man, this bums me out, because I am legitimately enjoying this game quite a bit. The crate and currency systems have some core problems, for sure, but it hasn't actually gotten in my way at all yet. And while I TOTALLY get why a lot of people are going to find the story flat, I didn't. The game relies on a lot of other books/comics/shows to provide context for a lot of what's happening, which is bad for the game being able to stand on its own, but it does help connect a lot of dots and fill some gaps if you have that stuff going in.
I don't know. EA really messed up their messaging in dealing with the blowback, and I think this has all escalated way out of control. This game's systems deserves some serious critique, but it doesn't deserve to be taken out back and shot. It's hardly the worst "pay 2 win" offender this year, and I really don't know if that label actually fits. It's progression system is poorly conceived and overcomplicated (not even DICE knows what to do with it, which is why they've been changing things so drastically), but I'm not feeling any need to toss more real money into it.
Every now and then one of these Gaming Minutes surfaces on the site, like this one did, and then I remember they exist and I have to go back and listen to all the ones I've missed since the last one that did the same.
Those cyber noises at the beginning always crack me up but I weirdly love these just for the condensed takeaways. I've actually heard one or two of these during commercial break on an AM radio show before. Maybe one of the seven people who play games and listen to AM talk shows will be dissuaded from buying this?
@tgjessie: Same. In fact when Ben and Abby were talking about their podcast "department of new business" I assumed it was a running joke and that there was no actual new podcast. There were already five of them when I realized it was a thing.
Last time I listen to one of these it was about Pokemon GO and Jeff predicting its failure, where he admitted fault on it. And now after listening to this one, I'm reading that EA maybe is about to change the whole lootboxes model.
It would be a shame if EA are only taking this crap out of Battlefront II and not making a bigger policy/strategy change away from shitty microtransactions and p2w schemes.
quick concise look at BF2. EA screwed up big time and got caught. They have been doing bad stuff for years with their UT for sports games and must have thought that this loot box crazy year, they could escape.
I'm still waiting to be graced by Jeff's gaming minute while at work, where I often am able to listen to the radio for a solid 8 hours straight (classic rock ftw).
@acornactivist: too late. You are wrong. Even if you are not and are entitled to enjoy this game. The Internet has spoken and the Internet lives to shit on Nouns collectively. It's what brings the Internet together.
