The Boyes, Lang, and Johnny-V segments of E3 are quickly becoming the best part of the show. Johnny-V is a fucking Legend.

Canada has regionality just like the states.

Milk can come in a bag, and I don't dispute that it's hilarious. But it hasn't been 50/50 with cartons since the 80s. In B.C. most places don't have it at all. In the Maritimes I still see it often.

There are accents, and our default accent differs from the american television standard by a little bit. But the super-heavy anglo Canuck accent is hard to find outside of Trailer Park Boys or SCTV. Think of the difference between a bad southern joke accent and Brad.

The cheap knock-off cereal typically comes in a big bag stacked on the lowest part of the shelf. The Kellogg's and Post don't.

Canadian bacon is back bacon. And that stuff is just ham. I don't think it even deserves to be rated as a bacon.

Hardly any store in the States has chip and pin?? The swipe is technically faster, but it's less secure and the magnetic stripe wears out in no time. Also frustrating that supposedly futuristic Square readers are all swipe.

@eternalgamer2: dan left another job to come here. What are you even talking about? Austin is the only one of this group ( outside of Vinny or Jeff who already have their things going well) who I would hire to start something brand new. Look at all the content and intellect he brought here on one year.

@deepcovergecko: It's a guest segment with 3 dudes that have been friends for 20+ years and used to work together in the past. Dan kept sticking himself right in the middle of it like an excited child.

Seconded, wholeheartedly.

The rawest and simultaneously most wonderful part of this stream was when Johnny V asked Jeff, "How scared were you?"

As long as GB continues to produce occasional moments like this - other examples include some of the Danswers podcasts - and to encourage the underlying community "It'll all be alright, man" goodwill, then this website becomes more than games coverage, and will continue to earn my support.

@zheelz said:

Jeff's sincerity talking about the Gamespot situation was highly poignant during this time where Johnny V. needed to hear it. I never get tired hearing Jeff talk openly about losing his job, the process of letting it sink in and then trying to take other people on a journey with him. He really gives a fuck about people which is something you don't see a lot in a work setting unless it only benefits the person doing it. As far as Johnny V. goes, he will recover! He's a good dude.

These E3 shows are wonderful. Thanks for all of the hard work from everybody on this site! I say, without any hesitation, that the money I spend on Giantbomb premium content is the best money spent anywhere on the internet. I know this isn't premium content, but I don't question ever paying money to this site, and I spend money on a couple of different platforms for music, television and movies. I would consider cutting all of those before I ever give up my Giantbomb subscription.

Soooo, who was the secret guest that GBeast was losing their marbles over on the second to last Beastcast? It seems like all the guests this year were par for the course of the last 3 or 4 E3s.

@eternalgamer2: You have a very weird look on things. Austin will be EIC at a brand new gaming website with a substantial cash flow behind it. As it sounds, he gets creative control of the entire thing.

Chalking it up to 'he wants more money' is a weird jump conclusion to make. As an editor at GiantBomb, Austin is incredibly limited in potential when compared to being EIC of his own gaming website. Additionally, it will be his which is safe to say is probably one of his dreams. More money is another benefit that is very weird to dismiss. When given the choice, most people would choose a job that pays more even if they like it less.

That leaves the question: why should Austin not take a job that is one of his biggest dreams, gives him the creative freedom he wants and pays him more money? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

While I am not surprised at all that the industry takes notice of the awesome talent and skill the Giant Bomb crew possess, I just wish they'd still be here as well. I'll miss you Austin! Wait....what does this mean for Friends at the table!?

@player1: I don't know, Vice may be bigger in money that they are tossing around currently. But in Clout, and quality... naw. Vice has kind of been a shitty venue for Fox News style infotainment for a far left progressive audience; wherever they tread the editorial voice supersedes the perseverance of truth. I'm kind of concerned over the venue for Austin becoming another voice in the Vice echo chamber. And I'm the Vice audience... I'll see him there but, Motherboard has already disappointed me with their editorial style. I have a bad feeling about this.

@austin_walker Although our time together was short--and by time together I mean me ogling you from across the fucking country--I thought you were a dynamite addition to the GB crew. I guess Jeff and Co. knows how to pick them, but I am extremely stoked that I got some of your meaty insights into how things are the way they are in video games. You're a good dude, and I hope that you have an incredible time over at VICE.

Came back from making dinner after watching the stream for a lot of the day. Stream was over but chat was still going. That's how I found out the bittersweet news. Had a moment of hoping there was a new "Brad is leaving" joke going around.

Super psyched to follow everything Austin does from now on. It's been a blast and looking forward to what opportunity brings on all sides.

Vice has had some gaming stuff going in the past that has been really good, and the Austin pickup just confirms they've got their head on straight to make something really special.

It's too bad Austin is leaving just as it seemed that his presence has become an integral part of the GB East that separated it in tone and insight from the rest of the site. The guest columns seemed like his brainchild that gave the site very welcome depth and may have influenced attempts to create features such as the interview Brad did with the Naughty Dog programmer. Hope he provides the same sort of in depth musings on the goings on of the industry while tackling the relevant issues of the day in relation to it.

@overdeezpecans: It sounds like Austin will be EIC of whatever the new site becomes and will have full editorial control. So if you won't like what it becomes, it will be on Austin and not Vice. Which means, you'll probably like it if you like what Austin did on GB.

This is rolling out in a bigger way here I think - at least in NYC most places use the chip now. Also that cereal-bag thing is the same here.
