@jeff: I didn't really hear it as a pure joke the first time, but I'll give you that one if that's how it was meant. My main issue was judging the show without being informed on it.

Ketchup and mustard on the hot dog or just ketchup. Mustard is a fine condiment but mustard only on a dog is icky.

Holy fucking shit Jeff sounds like the most ignorant fool in the world talking about Making a Murderer. And the takeaway of "we need more vigilante justice"... These guys should stick to video games. Good lord.

If the thing you took away from that conversation was that I was seriously talking about vigilante justice as an option then maybe you should try paying attention to the show instead of just having it on in the background or something.

Where is the health warning re: the 30ish minutes of Amiibo talk?

I'm about to go into full seizures. Even Brad tried to spin the conversation toward a new topic but Dan (and even Jeff) pulled it right back toward more Amiibo talk. My brain hurts so much.

I believe Raphael getting beat up in the movie was actually a call back to the comic where the same happens to Leonardo. In a similar reason, him needing to blow off steam from the rest of the group. I believe it's where the shot of him getting hit by a snowball is taken that was in the Nintendo Power that showcased the NES Arcade Game

I love when someone is informed on their TMNT lore.

@bigevil1987: That is wild. I haven't gotten into the Amiibo craze myself but I can understand why people do - but then if you're investing so heavily why do you have them in a box and not on display? Are you just buying them for in-game stuff only?

Since this seems to have not been mentioned but when Brad says that Street Fighter V seemes to have changed the least. I want to bring light to the fact that some players that were big in the earlier SF games seem to be fitting right in with the play style that SFV is presenting and seem to be favored to win big. I know its not something many will care about but considering Brad can talk about a DOTA 2 patch as being a big deal and kinda writing off SFV as just a roster update just bothers me along with thinking it looks similar graphically to SF4 which you would literally have to be blind to think. Sorry I kinda went on a rant.

Why should people stop talking about it?, there are genuine problems with the US legal system and the more attention that is brought to it the higher the likelihood of there being some sort of change. I get annoyed when i get bombarded with waves of pop culture, but i think when something gets people talking about real issues its a little ignorant to just shrug it off as an over-saturation of pop culture nonsense.

People will stop talking about this specific documentary, just like Serial season 1 and The Jinx isn't really much talked about anymore. People will still talk about the issues with the US legal system, but as with all true crime this specific case will disappear from the "zeitgeist" probably sooner rather than later.

@nkster: They shouldn't stop talking about it. It's incredibly important, you're right, but when the guy who runs this whole site takes a pretty callous stance against it I guess it's not surprising fans don't care either. People should be up in arms about trying to get Brendan Dassey freed, as well as what's going on with police brutality against minorities and income inequality. There's a lot of glaring, unbelievable problems happening in society met with constant apathy by a large part of the population. It's why Avery and Dassey were able to get completely railroaded and fucked over in the first place, because of that exact mentality Jeff is spouting - "I heard he was probably a shitbag anyway"

@sinjunb:

I generally agree with you on pretty much everything, especially dassey.

I'm guessing that jeff had read about the fact that Avery burned a cat, which is in fact extremely shitty, but in avery's defense its probably no more shitty than Dr Dre beating the shit out of how many women in the 90s?, and dre gets almost universally a free pass on that.

Either way, the cat thing really shouldn't have a bearing on the perception of this case or be taken as a sign that he deserves to be in prison, he already served his time for that and by all accounts seems sorry. I agree that its this kind of perception that really screwed him over in 07 and 85, and having to hear jeff say what he said was shitty, especially after seeing the whole series. But again, Jeff didn't have the full context, and he spoke about what he probably had heard/read online. From that point of view and his apparent discomfort with the exploitative nature of some true-crime works (i do not think MaM is exploitative fyi) i can understand where hes coming from. I probably wouldn't call him callous, but i agree that he probably should at least watch at least the first episode before passing judgement. (episode 1 is totally free on youtube).

@sinjunb: I'm sure many people care about these important issues...but getting upset that a podcast primarily geared towards comedy/wrestling/taco bell and occasionally video games is not adequately discussing the nuances of reported criminal and societal injustices seems like a tall order. There are far better forums to have those discussions.

Jeff would be a great juror in the case, fuck the process and rights, he seems guilty so fuck him. It's great when people with a large shoutbox on the internet take the same approach to stuff as an average YouTube commenter, of course, without actually watching the thing they're talking about.

Hey, I've never read a word Jeff writes, but I know/heard his writing is shitty. I have an opinion, yey me.

I was on a jury awhile back. It was terrifying to realize that one day my life might be in the hands of the totally moronic, apathetic "peers" who were my fellow jurors. Most people based their decisions on feelings and existing biases, not science, the evidence, or critical thinking. An uneducated populace is the bane of a just society.

Jeff's dislike of true crime stuff seemed like he was overlooking the fact that the airing of the show can be itself a step in the process of possible exoneration. For example, The Thin Blue Line cleared a wrongful conviction a year after its release, this ep. of This American Life got a corrupt judge to step down - but that was only after their publication created public pressure.

This is a proper
This is a proper "please put too much meat on this" sandwich. Yes, it feeds a family of four and has a price to match, but when you start talking about double meat you don't fool around.

That picture for the podcast isn't that so-called double meat sandwich is it? Pathetic! Nearly any deli between Boston and New York would keel over laughing at that pathetic sandwich.

I can only hope that someone just grab an picture of a mere sandwich and that isn't the podcast sandwich in question.
