If they sell MK, I hope they don't package the development team in as well. MK has been slowly dying for years and it needs a huge graphical, stylistic and gameplay facelift, which I don't think is likely to happen from the current development team.

damn, its Wednesday morning and its not on itunes yet? :-(. but i did listened to the podcast last night and you guys were a little confuse about the Sabatour class on killzone 2. if you're a sabatour, you will have the other team's uniform on but if you're a helgast, you still have your mask on when disgusing as an ISA soldier, and if you are digusing as a helgast than you wear their uniform but you will not have the mask on. also, when a player aim their cross-hair at a sabatour, the name above the sabatour's head will turn RED, indicating that they're the opponent.  btw, Jeff makes it sound like EVERY game online is a deathmatch, but whenever i played online there are wide variety of matches i can pick from. a lot of those are very objective-base matches, not all are deathmatch like Jeff make it sound to be.

I've never understood if MK is big or not anymore. Seems it's still going quite strong in the US. I don't know anyone in Europe who has cared about MK since like, 1995. It always seemed like a bad version of SF2 that changed good gameplay for gore and blood. I saw MK vs DC Universe in the bargain bins just weeks after the release over here =P

Battlezone's plot involved a secret war fought between the US and USSR on the moon and other planets of the Solar system. The technology that allowed the war was the discovery of a strange 'living' alloy of metal on the moon, and that's what bases and tanks were built of. Of course, as is the case for these things, you discover the source of this metal is a race of evil aliens.

I have no idea on how to qoute stuff - but this is a reply to the following post:

If you actually paid attention to what was said, it seemed like Dave played the campaign. You CAN'T choose your race in the campaign mate, you play it as Space Marines. The end. I don't know if you can paint your army in singleplayer though, but after having played the MP Beta - I still haven't found out how to pan :X I only managed to zoom in a bit and that's all. Great game though, and as always a game with one of the best intro movies.

And if you want a proper classic game to play Dave, I'd like to suggest Baldur's Gate II. Install the expansion (Throne of Bhaal) and the original game is a great story driven RPG. It's not hardcore D&D like Neverwinter Nights, but the story makes up for the lack of character development depth in numbers.

A little primer on the Orks:

Orks do not develop mentally in the way humans do. When they were created initially, they were implanted with much of their knowledge. Their main conscious point of knowledge is how to fight, they will fight anything and anyone and love every second of it. Their knowledge of things other than fighting stems from them eating their previous 'rulers', the Brain Boyz. Since the Brain Boyz were of the same genetic stock as the Orks, when they ate them all, some of their knowledge was passed into their genes. This didn't actually make them smart, per se, but implanted them all with some sub-conscious knowledge.

Orks (and other greenskins) do not necessarily 'learn' how to do things. There is no such thing as education for Orks, all their knowledge is passed on through their genes. This way, when one Ork mechanic dies, he will spawn, with his spores (as they are sentient fungus), many more Orks with the knowledge of mechanics. Of course, an Ork will not necessarily know he has these skills until he is introduced to tools or sees and somehow unconsciousely 'remembers' how to fix things. Orks themselves don't even know how they know these things. They just do. It isn't an exact science, though, and some knowledge may be lost or botched in each generation, or some may retain certain pieces of knowledge, some not at all, and some may be carbon copies of their progenitor. This is also why Orks all seem stupid, since their only conscious knowledge is how to bash and shoot things.

Yes, they are looters, but they do not necessarily only steal other peoples stuff to use them as is. They mostly steal them for materials and get their 'Meks' to 'figure them out' so they can make their own forms of technology, which at first glance looks rudimentary and crude, but is actually fairly advanced in that Orks seem to have a McGuyver style knack of putting random things together and having them come out working to great effect. This is especially true of their spacecraft, which are literally just habitat shielded asteroid-shaped bits of the previous planet they were on with giant rocket engines. When they were created as a race, they were created to be numerous and autonomous, so even if every Ork on a planet was killed, their dead bodies (if unburnt) would eventually spawn enough knowledgable Orks to give it another go.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2...

Way better than Dave makes it sound. While it's true that in the campaign you cannot switch to a different faction or change the color (Chapter) of the Space Marines you play, you can pan, tilt, and zoom (HOLD ALT and move the mouse!). It's really not just four dudes, it's four squads of dudes, each with a unique specialty.

The campaign is amazing, but the multiplayer is really the focus of the game. In this you can still move the camera, you can change factions, and you can create custom-colored armies to use for each faction. And the gameplay is great.

As for the Blizzard vs. Games Workshop discussion, GW's universe came first. Now obviously they didn't use quite unique ideas themselves, using some of the science fiction classics and some of the sci-fi versions of fantasy classics. Even so, Warhammer was created in 1983 and Warcraft was released in 1994. Then, Warhammer 40,000 was created in 1987 and StarCraft was released in 1998. While I understand that StarCraft has a legend that follows it (I don't quite understand why when you consider it was pretty mediocre), the fact of the matter is that if any comparison is to be made here (as none of the "ripping off" of ideas is necessarily even true), then it has to be recognized that the Warhammer universes were created first and therefore the source for any copying going on here.

Oh, and podcast! Whoo! The perfect background for programming!

Too bad the Warcraft and Starcraft universes are infinitely more interesting than Warhammer, Dyram, first or not.

I'm surprised those guys (GB staff) doesn't know who referenced who when they talk about Warhammer and StarCraft.

As far as I know, Blizzard first tried to make a licensed RTS game of Warhammer 40k for Game Workshop. Somehow, things didn't work out, and Blizzard had to break away from them. Blizz went on their own to create StarCraft, and GW gave the license to someone else.

So, I think it's pretty clear where Blizzard drew their ideas on StarCraft from. :)
