@purplemoustache: unfortunately i didn't eat an actual chilli.

I was at a Texas Honghorn and found a bottle of 1 million scoville sauce that I mustered up the courage to put a couple of drops of on my last little bit of meat.

For the first few minutes I thought I had committed a huge mistake and and was going to ruin the rest of the night, but I actually managed to handle it, partially thanks to some bourbon.

I've always wanted to try eating some actual whole peppers some time though.

I like The Fresh Prince of Ginger-Air, he gives good anecdote.

Although I have a feeling he'll be heading back to Tested permanently soon, due to VR being on life support.

VR isn't on life support. A third of Valve are working on VR now and Facebook upped the ante with Oculus even more last week.

I wonder if there are any concrete sales numbers for VR hardware yet. Last I heard all the non Sony VR headsets had sold like 350,000 units or something abysmal but I think that was just hearsay.

I doubt the sales are that good but there is too much money in VR to imagine it going away anytime soon.

Sony though... I don't trust Sony to support anything for long, they have the attention span of a third grader.

@yarbles: Too bad VR is dying again. I never got the chance to get into it. The price to get in way too high and Sony's VR solution is a compete joke/waste of time. Maybe it's gonna take another 15 years to come back in full swing.

@wynnduffy I just wonder how big the market really can be for $500+ headsets requiring $800+ PCs to run glorified tech demos. It seems like even just from the software side we are at least three years away from devs figuring out how to make fun and extended VR experiences worth a $30 or $60 price tag. Will the market survive that long?

The Sony VR livestream was the first time I thought about VR as the next motion control fad.

I don't think Dan understands that the concept of staying the fuck out of the office when you're sick to keep yourself from infecting the whole damn office, because he thinks he's "toughing it out like a good employee and putting in the hours regardless of being sick".

I have these kinds of people in my office as well, and aside from being inconsiderate assholes, I can only call these people, as I quote from Jeff, dumbass.

@heatdrive88: depends on the workplace when it comes down to it. I have had employers in non-office settings expect individuals to work through common colds and smaller illnesses. But when it is some more serious (flu, etc.), I have seen employees forced home.

If we don't know anything other then Dan is under the weather, than it is hard for use to pass judgement on the situation.

If you work shifts that depend on an hourly wage without paid sick leave, then I absolutely understand the pressure to continue working - this is truly unfortunate. I'm at least 99.99999% sure this is not the case for Dan.

In respect to Dan being ill, they have complained about Dan being sick for at least 4+ weeks now, and this certainly isn't the first time they've brought it up. He has been sick SINCE BEFORE PAX.

I feel bad that Will Smith is so financially tied to VR, but it seems like he's not going to be able to objectively discuss the current health of the market for VR.

What? Is that on a difficulty level to stop at stop lights in Mafia? Because I haven't done anything, I find the cops are super hands off in this game to the point where all the talk about cop awareness has been next to nill.

I wonder if the VR manufacturers are trying to turn a profit from their unit sales. Maybe it is Apple's turn to do something with visors to really open up the field, but they seem to be more interested in augmented reality right now.

Everything you would imagine was pretty much the chat's reaction to the tuxedo section.

It isn't just glorifed tech demos. That dismissive attitude is annoying and ill informed.

There's over one million people using GearVR. If you include Cardboard (cheap VR headsets), Rift and Vive, you better believe there's millions.

@izzy_tengoku said:

@yarbles: Too bad VR is dying again.

Investment in VR has never been higher and continues to increase. Just because the Vive and Rift haven't sold multiple millions yet doesn't mean it's dying.

The Vive had sold around 80,000 headsets as of July 2016, so it's probably over 100k by now. Pretty impressive for an extremely expensive piece of hardware requiring a high end PC.
