The choice to use Tower Unite as a venue for these deliberations just keeps paying off. The use of the video screen, moshing during the Best Music segment, and the avatar changes on the fly are all wonderful.

To be honest, I have not paid much attention to any game of the year coverage from any outlet for a few years now. I thought it no longer had a place in my life. Bless you and your format choice, I love it once more. My grinchy heart has swollen

I really think this year's GOTY is a massive triumph. Tam and Lucy bring such good chemistry into the mix, and Jan and Jess' production has honestly made the whole thing feel really good. I never really thought this was possible in a fully remote GOTY.

I'll admit, I haven't watched that much new era GB. But this has been a blast so far. That said...

New game: Take a drink every time Lucy is able to get out a full sentence without a single interruption. You'll be completely sober.

I like Jess's point of Best Music vs. Best Bop. You can have a great original soundtrack, but then one or two funky jams can skew the vote. You all play enough of the same games, just stick to OST's more than one person can recognize for soundtrack. Then bring in your best song for best song. This category's always been a weird one at GB (I've been playing guitar for 20+ years, can't help but zero in on that one the most).

And oh boy, GOTY counting sounded like Shawn Michaels explaining the Iron Survivor rules. I'm sure it'll all make sense tomorrow!

As a B-tier specialist, check my blog portfolio, I had to pause the video to say that category was the worst discussion I've heard on Giant Bomb in years. Really disappointed with how it was tailored to specifically one game. No arguments, no cases made, no deliberation.

The magic of B-tier is that it can come from any quality level and any budget. It's a game with just the edges a little bit off. That is, indeed, not an indication of quality, but more an indication of inexplicable quirks. Who made this? Why did they make it this way? No one knows. Like putting Twitter on a quality fridge. There was no magic here; it was just a few people who wanted to see specifically one thing win and then, wooow big surprise, it did win. And nothing else did. It literally proves that this was a foregone conclusion. Very deflating moment. I don't expect much, it's your list, but I did expect better here. As a personal affront to my weird little lane, I'm angry, I'm sad; but mostly, as stated, I'm disappointed.

Still like the format, all that jazz. I bought Super Kiwi immediately after hearing Jeff Gru praise it. I like when people are passionate about shit. Though, now I'm probably a little more worried what that means for the harder categories tomorrow. I mean, technically. I know it's going to be disappointing in one way anyway. See you tomorrow 💜

hell yeah! it's always good to have new energy in these things (particularly tam and lucy), and the production duo of jan and jess are killing it.

Stranger of Paradise got robbed. The gameplay is genuinely fun, Bosses are great and the story had promise, the game is just hindered by uninspired level design and some of the worst story telling in years.

Surprised there was no mention of Midnight Fight Express in best music.

while i'm absolutely pleased as punch that Metal Hellsinger got its due in music, everyone should listen to the new tunes Chipzel put out as part of the Dicey Dungeon update this year.

consistently some of the best game music being produced- and now that she's fucking around with horns and sax- IRONCLAD JAMS.

Time to update my Geek Jingles Spotify soundtrack. Best music is always one of my favorite categories.

There's a very strange overlap for this as one of my favorite pro-wrestling podcasters ALSO cites this as the only music he can engage with besides lo-fi.

Dissing PUBG as past goty is wild right after all the Fortnite love. Yes PUBG hasn't aged well, but Fortnite wouldn't exist as it is without pubg, and it was literally genre defining at the time.

i love that Tam loves metal. for some reason i didnt expect that.

I really hope someone on staff with a soundboard in their audio setup can isolate Jan doing his impersonation of the flute part from that Xenoblade song, and we can just have that sound effect ready to go. It is precious.

No timestamps to check, but from what I could gather in the YT comments, Shredder's Revenge doesn't seem to make an appearance in the Music category, which seems like a crime.

Scorn was awesome! How is it on this list? Combat wasn't the best, but the visuals and journey are mind blowing. It's not a perfect game, but the atmosphere was incredible. Loved the ending too.
