Lockdown 2020: Jeff Explains PSO2 to Jason, a PSO Fan

Jason probably didn't need the help, honestly. I mean, if he could even hear Jeff talking. The audio isn't perfect on this, is what we're getting at here, folks. It's like there's a conspiracy to prevent us from recording the perfect PSO2 Quick Look.

It's a lockdown baby! We're under orders to work from home so here we go!

Jeff's mic volume is super low and/or game audio much higher that it drowns him out.

All these audio issues would be way easier with a mixer with aux outputs and a cheap usb Creative soundcard. Embrace the mixer life Jeff.

I hope Jeff starts turning the game volume down or his own volume up.

Without headphones it's really difficult to hear him over the game audio.

Think I'll go ahead and maybe stick with MHW or maybe end it all and start up FFXIVRR again, this by comparison is. you know what, im not even gonna say it. If people like it, cool.

I will say,

>jeff can't dig FF7, or the remake because it's very long and 40ish hours

>plays PSO2 for like 100 across platforms lol

Would love to see the numbers that PSO streams generate on the site.

Jeff appears to fix the audio about 40 minutes in. So much better. Even with headphones I was having trouble.

Yeah but PSO2 is just mindless. He probably doesn't want to have to pay attention to 40-ish hours of story and stuff.

I'm in a similar way right now. I've just been playing American Truck Simulator (with the occasional dip into Animal Crossing) after seeing Alex play it because it doesn't require a lot of attention. Meanwhile, I've got a bunch of story-oriented games like Control that I'd like to get around to but I'm just not feelin' like that sorta thing at this point.

Kinda this. Jeff does a lot of comfort food gaming, Clickers and COD etc, where you can just turn off your brain and pour hours into something.

That said I do think it's kinda funny to see a bunch of the staff hemming and hawing about playing FF7R even in a situation where very few other AAA games will be coming out this year and there's literally nothing else to do.

While I agree the conversation was very hard to hear for the first ~40 minutes, I feel like the biggest reason was Jeff facing his head away from the mic when playing.

Also, that Tundra quest - the bosses duo is a Snow Banshee + Snow Banther set, they're not 2 Banshees : p

OH wow haha, the start of this video is a beautiful mess. The sharp stuttering, the deafening game audio and Jeff's wonderful collage all added together to be something terrible and very special.

A lot of the gripes brought up early in the video really don't stay the course the closer this version gets to the Japanese version. But that's just par for the course of confusing junk when you release an almost 8 year old game with almost everything in it to a new audience. For example:

- Client Orders never really got significant updates to give worthwhile payouts the higher the difficulty levels and player levels rise, so the 20 vs 40 client order limit doesn't become an issue when by the time you're level 90 all you're really doing is just taking the daily orders with the big payouts. Paying for the permanent inventory space upgrades is what Sega tries to push more since they are by character basis.

- Boosters are at a pretty much infinite supply, daily orders are per character and you have 3 characters for free by default and every day doing your daily missions gets you tri-boosters, not to mention Sega would distribute a number of them pretty much every maintenance on JP. The 250% Rare Drop boosters are pretty much infinite too, as the higher level content you do just drops more and more 10* weapons that can be turned into the currency you use to buy them. It's more used as an Excube tax as you also spend them on affixing boosters to created more powerful fodder equipment to upgrade your own or to sell.

- Gathering stamina is also by character, so with your 3 default characters you have effectively 300 stamina to burn when farming for stones and gems to upgrade your rings. Also, when gathering be sure to first fish until you build up a gathering fever and then start burning your mining stamina. Gathering Fevers make it so each node hit gives you more of that material (So 2-3 rocks instead of 1) as well as makes it so the mining node doesnt move. Gathering this way makes it so you only need a handful of good fevers to get all the materials you need to max out a ring.

The game is very F2P friendly as you put time invested and learn to navigate the systems. A lot of the pay for convenience items are beginner traps. Like paying for a new mag is better than paying to reset your mag, spending your AC to buy more character slots is better than spending AC to restore gathering stamina, etc. The only really F2P unfriendly system in place is just that your inventory is so small. I would typically recommend keeping an eye out on whenever they do sales for character inventory and pick up an extra 50 slots for like 10 bucks if you do have fun with the game. I don't know how often Jeff or the other staff reads the comments but I hope this info helps.

I wish I was online when Jeff streamed this. I am super stoked for Blue Protocol and I could see Jeff liking it. I haven't played a MMO in years and just can't do traditional MMOs anymore. I just find hitscan combat with a controller way more fun.

@dijidiji: well put and I totally get the sentiment. Control was my favorite game of last year, but I'm finding it hard to jump back into for the DLC...there are a lot of games, and these comfort food games actually do wind up distracting me from other stuff more than i'd like to admit.

Is it really mindless though? Watching it makes me feel like I would have to undergo hours of understanding menus and how to no navigate the game before it becomes mindless...

@lunarbeing: I haven't played the English version but I played the Japanese one a bunch and the core of it is pretty mindless, yeah. Like Diablo but instead of clicking you're pressing buttons. For sure there's all sorts of menus and stats to boggle your mind but you really don't need to bother with that until maybe endgame - I never got that far.
