Also, I love how Alex died from every possible way before finally defeating the Thresher Maw. Very similar to my experience.

Alex, remember to use the jump jets to jump over the big projectiles that do the most damage.

Anybody else fight Geth Colossi by slamming into them with the Mako and shooting them while they rag-doll helplessly?

Do the mics sound a bit hot for anyone else or is it just me?

Just here to confirm the audio is different in this video. It's still definitely watchable, just sounds worse than the normally great audio.

Vinny is right, this game is so fucking good. It's also absolutely perfect for this type of playthrough, love this whole thing.

Slightly hot mics aside (wasn't too bad tbh), having not played ME1 since release I'm loving Alex's reactions to all of Mass Effect's world-building (and hearing it again myself). Please never stop going through every dialogue tree.

Ironically, short descriptions are way more effective at setting the table than ME:A's "look a unskippable (at launch) cutscene on your way to every planet"

As I'm watching and writing you're coming up to what was easily the hardest part of the entire game for me. This is where I dropped the difficulty down to get through it. Total bastard!! The Armature and the gecko geth motherfuckers, jumping around. Haaattted this part. 1:36:30 ughh, getting cold sweats looking at it.... yes that went about as well as I'd have thought. Also seeing that cutscene over and over again.... Minus like two encounters in ME2 and one in ME3, this was about the hardest part in the entire trilogy for me.

Looking at how long there is in this episode, and seeing the description, I hope beating this section isn't just the rest of the episode... I hope for Alex's sake!

Sure people are going to mention it but:

1. Medi Gel. Use it.

2. Assault Training is part of your vangaurd class.

3. Could really use Barrier.

It's been awhile since I played ME1, but you're a Vanguard, right? I think you're supposed to be popping barriers, using the protection to charge in, then obliterating dudes with your shotgun. It's not ideal that Alex spec'd so heavily into pistols, but barrier, shotgun, and medium armor should be the goal going forward because I believe that's the focus of the class.

Edit: I feel that Vanguard without barrier/shotgun is kind of like playing the stealth class and not leveling the invisibility and sniper skills.

In the time from episode 1 to the release of episode 4 of Mass Alex, I've replayed the whole of Mass Effect 1. Didn't intend to but it sucked me right back in. Superb game.

I definitely recommend turning the difficulty down. The combat really isn't why we come to this game.

Good job Alex, seem to be getting the hang of things.

Huh I didn't remember that Garrus was "that" kind of cop

@alex A good way to take out Thresher Maws is to get close enough that is doesn't go underground but not close enough that it smashes you. This way it will only spit at you and use the jump jets to hop over the projectiles. Also, you get more exp for killing things on foot instead of with the Mako, so you can get it down to a sliver of health then pop out and finish it off for a nice bonus.

I'm glad you're digging it so far.

These mics are HOT. Almost distractingly so!

This texture mod really improves the game's look. Hope to see a proper remaster someday, but in the meantime, this'll do alright.

Also I sure hope Alex figures out he can disintegrate junk into omnigel soon. That'll solve his hacking problems, and even as someone who never considered himself great at Frogger it's pretty painful to watch.

I have definitely lost progress on that exact liara mission when playing ME1. Sometimes you just can't get out of the combat status.

That one fight is rough, but Alex's perseverance there was commendable. Absolutely loving the series so far; it's making me increasingly excited for Tuesdays to come around each week!

Nice to see Alex naturally figuring out this game's natural right -hand advantage, too.

The combat in this game is tough as hell but it's due to jankiness and old mechanics more than actual difficulty. Might be worth dropping it down to "easy" just so you can focus on enjoying the story more and not having to repeat bad combat sequences.

Aside from that, just want to say I am loving the hell out of this series. Alex and Vinny are the perfect duo for this playthough!

I feel like Alex is being way to conservative when it comes to power use. I think I just spammed every power at every opportunity, but then I played an engineer.

The sound is weeiiirddd in this video. Almost uncomfortable

It was totally possible to get the mako through that gap before the tough geth bit! It just takes a fair amount of trying until physics takes over.

Ugh, I remember that geth fight near the end there. So annoying!

It sounds like a morning zoo because I can't tell the humans from the animals.

I’m so excited about how excited Alex is about all this Mass Effect lore.

Yeah, I don't what's up but there's definitely mixing issues with Vinny and Alex's audio. Listening it through speakers on my PC, I had to turn it way down because it just sounds weird and too loud. They probably should take this episode down and fix it to be honest.
