Mass Alex

Mass Alex: Mass Effect 03: Episode 16

We head out to solve some computer issues in some of my favorite bits of science fiction... the old how-do-we-visually-represent-hacking-with-action sequence.

There are billions of stories in the universe, so why not play the best one?

James is always the right answer for the repair. Unfortunately scene only happens on first repair job. https://youtu.be/-cMfUt3c5qw

Gameplay wise it also makes sense, Tali is better at fighting Geth and James always gets the job done.

Thank you Commander, for telling me about the distress signal I could clearly hear because I was standing right next to you.

So windows closing for doing dlc stuff. So after this quarian stuff might be a good time to do Leviathon or maybe after Thessiia? And the doing Citadel after Sanctuary and before the point of no return will give you most options. What does everyone else think?

The reaper base mission is another move the story forward point so you should look into going to the Citadel and doing some side stuff first maybe before completing it.

I know everyone loves the Tuchanka ending, Mordin, and the genophage as the best pieces of the series' broader world-building, but the reveal of Legion in 2 and the secret history of the Geth/Quarians in 2/3 are probably my favorite parts of the series. Taking what was portrayed as a mindless, mysterious threat in the first game and revealing them to be a complex species with internal struggle and debate is a pretty amazing arc. Along with the strong possibility that losing Rannoch was all the Quarian's fault for being uncompromising assholes towards their creations.

@pontiak: That guy from ME 1 is a weapons smuggler, if you talk to the 3 people in the nearby shack before hand they grass him up, they fled back to check on the weapons they had stashed.

Ashley chews him out for holding onto weapons while marines were dying to protect the colony.

Man, I can't believe this stuff was DLC. I feel like it actually adds depth to the ME3 story (compared to the other two). I remember Vinny talking about this exact problem when the DLC came out.

I appreciate that every question they had about the hacking interface had an in-universe explanation. Why guns, why masks, all of it. The Tron armor helped.

You can take shepard's helmet off during cutscenes if you want.

If you want the bonus power, examine the second medical bed in dr chakwas's room.

@bathala: Wow that's something that never occurred to me. There's no way in hell ANYONE makes a game in 2020 where a superior officer bones a subordinate in their private quarters. I wonder if the upcoming trilogy release will face blowback on that.

I'd forgotten how utterly lame the VR mission is. There's really no need for it to be so long and repetitive.

If I could make a gun recommendation, the Javelin Alex picked up on Rannoch this episode is really satisfying. Single shot sniper, high damage and can see through smoke and cover. It's another geth weapon (like the geth SMG Alex is fond of) and it has really good sound design. When you nail something with the Javelin, it feels fantastic.

@lucidquasar Thanks for the clip. Never seen that before, haha.

The more you think about it, the more it's obvious that the characters really should have been referring to Legion with they/them. Not only is "it" problematic but Legion is a plurality. They even refer to themselves with first person plurals.

They should really add Legion to Smash Bros. Ultimate soon.

also Alex might wanna try out that Prothean rifle...maybe even upgrade it all the way to version 5...it's pretty good even if you just have Javik use it.

@mjones916: I mean, either point gets you to the end conclusion that no kid should watch that movie.

@dan_citi: The trouble with that is that that gun is effectively a 'press X to win' option, there's no real joy in using it. Helped a ton to do an insanity run though.

On the topic of favourite bits of science fiction: the annual going-on-the-piss with the ship's doctor. It's the little humanising details that often make the best sci-fi stories, at least to me.

@blackout62:

The creators of Mass Effect weren't very interested in gender in Mass Effect considering literally every species they created has men and women.

Even the giant floating jelly fish somehow go by he/him or she/her.

But I've also experienced some really good scifi fiction where alien/mech characters prefer to go by it instead of they/them so that they can be as far away from human concepts of gender as possible.

I think the Ani-Matrix never gets the credit it deserves for doing the "what if organics fucked up in how they treated synthetics, and THAT'S what caused them to rebel?" storyline, and doing it very, VERY well.

Kinda shifts the entire narrative of The Matrix knowing that machines only went to war because humans assumed they'd go to war and struck first.

I don't want to be Debby Downer, but man.. it frustrates me greatly how they keep forgetting that there's a dedicated button on the controller that shows you where to go.
