Mass Alex: Mass Effect 3: Episode 15

There's a bit of a capture hiccup towards the end (I left it in the edit) but it seems like it didn't miss too much.

Shohreh Aghdashloo can read the phone book and I would listen to her every word. She is great in this episode.

I only remember these Tali scenes as a love interest so this will be (sort of) new for me

Stop coughing Vinny

As much as I like Legion, a lot of his dialogue is actually reflective of a lot of the problems I have with the writing and design in this game. Like how Legion says that even when directly interfaced with a Reaper, they were still incomprehensible. I love the idea that even a completely machine species like the geth can't completely wrap their heads around the Reapers.

But then you get to the end of the game and not only are the Reapers' completely knowable, their motives are also comprehensibly stupid. The worst decision the writers made was trying to give the Reapers some grand reason for destroying all sentient life. They were much better and more terrifying villains when the idea was that they were so advanced that their motives for repeatedly wiping out civilization would always be completely inscrutable. All the other species needed to know was that the Reapers were doing it because they could.

Also, it's been awhile, but is there any practical consequence to you destroying the heretics vs. reprogramming them in ME2? I sort of remember all it really changed was the dialogue you get, but not the actual gameplay, so it always felt like the game was pulling its punches. Might be wrong on that one, though.

You should be able to see where everyone on the ship is by looking at the map. Same with the Citadel.

Shohreh Aghdashloo's voice (Admiral Raan) is so raspy and epic. I've been catching up on The Expanse and she's so great on that show.

Kinda disappointed Alex passed up the chance to punch Gerrell in the gut.

When Alex does the mission to save Admiral Koris, encourage him to make sure he saves the admiral on the mission, or it'll make the final choice of the arc impossible.

@ghnvt3: I didn't know who she was before The Expanse but I totally lit up when I heard Admiral Raan this time around!

Hey, I just thought of something: if Legion calls Shepard "Shepard-Commander", why doesn't he call Tali "Tali-Creator"? That would be so much cooler.

Also: anyone wanna start taking bets on Priority: Rannoch will go? Alex didn't destroy the heretics, so that reputation check for the "good ending" is going to be mighty tricky...

@vinny: Make sure @alex gets Flare as a bonus power from the lab and starts doing biotic detonations. It’s the best part of the combat. Reave and Singularity are great primers

You couldn't change the mods because you just picked up a gun, you weren't at a workbench (or on your ship).

Will Alex ever try a different gun....

She's also the voice of the Future War Cult faction leader in the Destiny games.

I don't think I've ever seen someone be as afraid to interact with a games systems as Alex. Why is he so afraid of weight? How has he not equipped (or at least checked out) new armor? How has he not checked out all the companions alternative outfits yet? Why does he never check out new guns? (Equipping the pistol was a major milestone). Why does he always immediately go with the paragon choice, it seems like he barely reads the text. It just feels like he plays on autopilot and doesn't really explore the games systems and narrative paths. He's been playing like this with the first two games as well so I don't expect him to change it up much, but man... Like, he's so afraid to walk in the "wrong" corridor or get lost (how do you even get lost in these *tiny* areas) that he checks the map (I dont think ive ever checked the map in an ME game) before he walks through a doorway.

You're playing a game, not doing a test. Just chill and explore. Use the guns, use your abilities, don't overthink things.

Man, the disdain for Allers is so palpable every time lol. And I can't figure out if it's because her IRL counterpart has always been obnoxiously untalented, and putting her in the game over any other person in the games media at the time really sucked.....or if putting someone prominent in games media at the time into a product was just slimy no matter what.

@reaveybeach: Alex never checks the map that's part of the reason why it's so annoying sometimes when they both ask questions about where someone is. Something as simple as click in the left stick to show the objective or the map with the people highlighted and he only did it once!

I'm also kinda frustrated about changing armor thing especially since he spent the cash to buy armor in the first place

I'm just constantly amazed at how easy this game is on normal, it looks as like it's set on very easy.

I don't think Alex even had to use a medkit a single time, taking multiple rockets straight to the face.

@flstyle: word... and is my brain all weird? Oh, waaaaait.... I was remembering riding in an apc with Tali on my team, and her telling me she loves me. I thought it was Tachunka, but it's Rannoch, isn't it?

Yeah. I'd always really liked Tali, but when Liara dipped for ME2, engineer girl became my wife, and I'm not sure I'd go with anyone else if I did another playthrough.

He would have to raise the game's difficulty first. The dude is already obliterating everything in front of him like a walking tank. Why interact with more of the game's mechanics when the playing field is already tilted all the way in his favor.

the "sCiEnTiFiC BeNeFiTs!" thing at the end of the episode was pretty good.

@therealturk: Gameplay-wise, nothing changes. However, story-wise, the only way to keep both the Geth and Quarians around as allies is to rewrite the Heretics in ME2. If you destroyed them in ME2, it is impossible to get enough "points" (there is an invisible score for certain choices for this plotline) to be able to have them stop fighting at the end of the Rannoch mission.

@twoarmed: What? I destroyed them (under the "dying for their beliefs is better than forced acquiescence" logic), and still got the "save both" ending. Legion even noted the difference in conversation.

Man, even beyond Shohreh Aghdashloo, they wheeled out the good VAs for the Quarians.
