This was an awesome Direct. I really hope Nintendo makes a dedicated Mario Maker 2 stream at some point, though. I'm very curios to hear and see more about all the new features, and hopefully much better systems for sharing and searching for levels. Perhaps even integrate the system friends list in the game.

Also, deep sigh at Dan describing Rune Factory as anime Stardew Valley. Yes, I understand that Stardew Valley was his, and a lot of others, introduction to the genre. Thing is, Stardew Valley is pretty much a tribute to the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory franchises.

Koizumi is not from a business-side, he's an old-school Nintendo dev.

He wrote the story for LTTP, invented z-targeting for OOT, invented 3-days system and wrote quests for Majora's Mask, directed Sunshine, directed Galaxy 1 and wrote Rosalina's storybook.

Oh my fucking god. A Link's Awakening remake? Nintendo, you could not have made me happier today.

Man, it blows my mind how Nintendo just lets some of these really awful looking clips onto their directs. AC3, Dead by Daylight and GRID just looked terrible.

Also, Link's Awakening's new look is super cute, but damn I kinda wish it incorporated more of that anime opening style.

Pretty stoked for the Link's Awakening remake. I loved that game as a kid, what a great surprise.

Also, a tetris battle royale? Seriously? At least its free free and not "free".

Man, solid as hell direct. The only things I didn't care for were the ports from other systems. Astral Chain looks dope as hell!

Great direct, my only issue with Link's Awakening (My favourite Zelda game!) is the art style does not match the literal nightmare the game takes place in - The last dungeon in particular is going to look weird with this art style.

Vinny recognised the art style and music for it really quickly, I was so excited, I recognised straight away, I love Link's Awakening so much, the intro music with lightning flashes on that mono tone screen is burnt into my memory - that and the credits music which is my favourite rendition of the overworld theme.

I’m not usually this kind of person, but as a huge Harvest Moon and Rune Factory fan, Dan’s “is this a JRPG Stardew Valley” made me want to die.

Woah.. that fire emblem game surely was made during Leicester City's premier league run. Leicester Alliance? Led by Claude? Claude Ranieri?

Dead By Daylight & ACIII looked ROUGH. ACIII's graphical quality at least seemed to somewhat hold up if you ignore the performance, but there's nothing good i can say about that Dead by Daylight version. Apart from that, this was a very solid direct with a lot of cool announcements

. I'm sad that FF8 doesn't get any love on it's anniversary. The only way to make amends is by remaking FF8 & making a Laguna based game on the side :)

@lionsy: I agree, the art style is a little more cutesy than I would like. But it was my favorite Zelda game too and I will 100% play this version.

A few definite highlights in there, lots of other small stuff that is very cool. Nintendo largely leaving E3 behind sucks, but man is great seeing them drop these directs out of nowhere and fill them with announcements and insta-releases. I'll sacrifice a giant E3 stage show for 4+ mini-E3s a year.

Also the sheer number of those games announced for summer makes me think they could actually have a fairly good showing at E3 with stuff this fall. I imagine we'll get Animal Crossing and a lot of Wii U ports, but I'm more than on board with that.

No I'm with you. I like some of what I see, but remakes really dont get me excited now. I love nostalgia, but i also have 300 games in my collection Ive never played and they'd be a brand new experience,(actually, more than 300, probably like 700 if you include Steam!). It was good, but I'm not taking moments of silence like Dan ha-ha

And I feel alone like you on the fact that I DON'T LIKE MARIO MAKER. I get this website has a love affair with it, (Dan, Jeff, Patrick). They have their little competitions. Maybe if I was in their position Id like it more? But as someone who didn't have anyone to share my levels with; I made a few that got some positive feedback, and then just didn't want to make levels anymore. I dont think I ever enjoyed a single level i downloaded randomly, even their Nintendo made levels. And not being able to actually create Mario caliber levels, I was like "why would I want to play a less good Mario?". -- So seeing Mario Maker 2, and Dan drooling over it ans dismissing the Marvel game after it -- i was actually opposite him and would be more excited about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (and I wasn't excited by that at all either).

Thank you for this. I love seeing Dan get excited for Nintendo games. :)

TsumTsum is an insanely popular phone app game that's been around in Japan for at least 4-5 years.

Yikes, that Dead By Daylight port looks rooouugggh. The original PC version isn't exactly a looker but I don't think that version with everything set to low looks quite that bad even.

I'm with Dan, Mario Maker, Tetris, and Zelda FTW!

There were some really choice quotes during this:

"Clear my schedule!", "I feel like this could be cool.........or really bad.", and maybe my favorite "this like Studio Ghibli or sumthin?"

He only wrote the backstory for ALTTP, but wrote the story for Link's Awakening. Now it makes sense with the remake being announced.

This should be a thing, GB talking over conference is my favorite type of content.

Eh, didn't really do much for me. Switch continues to mostly collect dust.

Astral Chain could be fun, even if I'm sure it has Platinum's trademark things in it, like a terrible story and laughable characters. But if it plays well...

I was playing god eater 3 while watching this and it made me say "Wow, that's anime as fuck right there"

Also, I really don't care for a game that looks this good to be on a switch. I honestly domt even play my switch anymore because the graphics are so poor compared to having the option to play say assassin's creed Odyssey at 4k.

Either fucking way I'm getting Astral Chain even if I have to play it in .rm format.

This did nothing for me personally but my kid is extremely excited for it so hooray!

I'm literally buying a Switch to have an excuse to play Rune Factory 4 for the 4th time.

It's anime o'clock in the Switch! I'm so happy to see the 3DS 2D stuff of Dragon Quest 11 make it on the Switch version.

To all those left cold: That's okay. Nothing here spoke to you, and that happens with art. Feeling apathetic is fine.

Lastly to the Pokemon and Animal Crossing people: Hang in there, our times will come!

Since Nintendo has been putting off talking about Fire Emblem Three Houses for a long time, it makes sense that they would stuff the Direct full of other JRPGs when they know Fire Emblem fans will be watching.

If you can't appreciate Dan's pure, childlike joy at Nintendo announcements, then you simply lack a soul. His reactions and excitement with this stuff is so childlike and genuine, it warms the cockles of the heart.

When Dan mentioned he could have had the whole thing spoiled for him prior to it starting all I thought of is SCOOPS!

Zelda looks amazing, rest was meh.

This was as good as some E3's are.
Can't wait for Rune Factory 5. (And Astral Chain, and Tetris 99, and Zelda Link's Awakening (never played the original), and Super Mario Maker 2, and... you get the idea.)

Dan's face when THAT happened was fucking PLATINUM.

Pretty boring for me, i can take about 1 fantasy story a year and i have no reverence for Zelda or Mario.
Tetris battle royale is hilarious, and i have to check out the Platinum game, but that's about it.

Also need to buy a Switch at some point.

Dan's joy is infectious. Very fun talk-over.

But I have to say it: What did they do to Dead By Daylight!? Woof. Reminds me of those "ultra-low" settings mods to make Skyrim run on a Voodoo 3 or something. I know the Switch isn't a powerhouse, but surely it can run a decent-looking DbD port.

(that said, a handheld DbD would be AMAZING)

Edit: Also, have Vinny and Dan really never heard of this game? I know they're not fans of the genre, but surely Vinny would have seen it with all the Steam-crawling he does.

Man I am so hype for Mario Maker 2. I could have lived without slopes but like that they implemented them, there even seems to be different types. Controllable scrolling and all the other new items really stole my heart though!

Platinum´s new thing looks fun enough, will keep an eye on it.

That Link´s Awakening remake might be cool, but I´m not immediately sold on the artstyle. This was the case with the one in Link Between worlds as well and I ended up really enjoying that so I suppose there´s hope. Still, from the gameplay they showed you seemed to move in a rigid 8 directions and not the smooth way you did in LBW so that has me a bit sceptical still.

I wonder if Mr. Koizumi-san loves ramen...
