BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Interesting take on the music lane genre. I wonder if it would work better with a motion controller since it seems to be much more analogue than something like Thumper. Should be fun in VR.

Edit:

I want someone to make the Tom Cruise brain hacking game for a game jam or something.

That's quite the soundtrack. I love how the first track is Bass Cannon and I guessed the reactions to it. Flux Pavilion is dope.

It feels like most of the US lumps all "bass" music together. While there are definitely regional genres of electronic music here (detroit techno etc) I don't think it's like the UK. Garage/jungle/dub/dnb/breakstep seem like distinctions that are used more often in the UK than here in the States.

Not my style of game, but that soundtrack is dope. I never used to listened much to electronic music; that all changed thanks to Hotline Miami. Now I'm kinda hooked.

This is pretty cool. The music is right up my alley. And it is very reminiscent of Child of Eden or Rez which were made by the same team/person.

@thomasnash: to be fair, Some Kind Of Monster was released last year... I think. And that's a pretty great track. I think they just needed to get some music in there people will have heard of, and that probably gets a lot less expensive if you go back five years or so.

@vinny oh I would LOVE to see battlefield earth in film and 40's. that would be hilarious. I also love not calling this game hard but not having done well enough to open the harder difficulties - I don't know if the giant bomb drummer can't get them I would call that hard as he is a music game expert!

Every time Alex said "Aaero", I thought "Windows Aero? Why would you name a game after that?"

I probably won't ever play this but it looks pretty cool.

Wow this dude has some Opinions about electronic music.

The writing on that link is very entertaining.

Trance

Trance is the most emotional genre. It can make you cry, make you shout, make you cheer, and make you celebrate absolutely nothing of substance except pure, ecstatic bliss...

Alex, electronic music subgenre people will give the metalheads a run for their money on the pretension factor. That is a rabbit hole I advise staying well clear of.

As someone who does follow EDM and a handful of its myriad subgenres, this soundtrack is actually fairly solid. A tour of some key non-Skrillex/Diplo-related EDM of the past several years.

Flux Pavilion and his trusty cannon, Noisia - EDM legends, also of DmC: Devil May Cry soundtrack fame (alongside Combichrist's metal influence there), Habstrakt and Megalodon on dubstep duty representing Never Say Die Records, that popular Katy B song anyone near a club/show in 2011-13'ish heard some variation of.

Not a bad list at all.

@vinny

Happy Hardcore: This genre, defined by its fast tempo, stompy drums, and aggressively optimistic piano rave melodies, is perhaps one of the most maligned genres ever. Much like disco, it's trashed mostly out of ignorance and/or the fear of appearing "girly".

REAL TALK: happy hardcore grew out of UK rave at the same time as jungle, and was really delightful for the first few years of existence. Like jungle, happy hardcore spent 1993 breaking away frome the old breakbeat hardcore rave paradigm, and 1994 finding its own identity. By 1995 it had really come into its own as a distinct genre-still tied to jungle and rave, but with its own unique sound and aesthetic. It lasted for a couple of years before losing a lot of the original rave/jungle elements that made it so great. It devolved into an even cheesier breakbeat-free kind of hyperpop for the Dance Dance Revolution crowd (much like jungle eventually evolved into clownstep drum & bass). This really awful later-era cheeseball stuff is the reason for happy hardcore's bad rap. I still stand by the tunes that came out in 1993-1997.

Here are some tracks of the happy hardcore golden era:

Slipmatt; Hear Me (Awesome Records)

Sy Project; Emotions (Quosh Records)

Naughty Naughty vol. 5; Stay Here (white)

Edit V; Sensation (Vibes & Wishdokta Remix) (Impact)

DJ DNA feat. Jenka; Reality (Just 4 U)

@alex@vinny Fun fact, Noisia (the Split the Atom group from this video) made the DMC soundtrack. They mostly describe their music as drum and bass and are generally really cool dudes.

This is a really interesting soundtrack, I wonder how the licensing rights panned out, because it's pretty much a greatest hits tour of 2010-2012 popular EDM.

It's not really my cup of tea anymore, but that was a really interesting (and kind of weird) period of time when American Dubstep blew up very, very quickly and then it's influence sort of seeped into basically everything for the next 4 years.

I was thinking about this till I realize that thumbstick movement is kinda clunky in this style of game. Would completely try it in VR if it comes out for that. That is how Thumper turned out for me. I royally suck at the game on a screen, but with the VR 3D effect I zone into a trance-like state and clear it out.
