Hamster Corp is truly the greatest publisher of this new generation.

e: Is Mr. Goemon supposed to be the same Goemon as in Mystical Ninja? Because Ishikawa Goemon is an actual legendary Japanese figure. As @danryckert said, he was essentially Robin Hood.

Tornado dude is Pecos Bill. Ry Cooder and Robin Williams did an audiobook about him for children. I grew up on that stuff and listened to it just about every day.

The difference between American folklore and most foreign folklore is that America has been around for only about 200 years. Many other cultures have existed for thousands of years, and thus their folklore is a little bit less "modern" than American folklore. I don't mean any of this as a knock against American culture, but it's completely unfair to compare American folklore to basically any other folklore.

Also, it's only in the arcade version of Double Dragon II where Billy's girlfriend gets gunned down. In the NES version, Shadow warriors attack her and all you get is a still of her looking scared and confused, and a creepy ninja smiling. That's probably the reason why Dan didn't immediately remember the intro.

You could save her if you played on the hardest difficulty, right?

Yep, same thing with Brazilian folklore, it's just too young, I mean japanese Folklore is absolutely awesome with all the yokay and stuff, giant demons and whatnot, while here in brazil we have some dude that smokes a pipe and has just 1 leg....

@danryckert Santa Claus didn't start in America, but his red and white outfit is an invention of the Coca Cola company. He original visage varied from country to country, where in some places he wore a tan outfit, other places he was a small elf.

I really want Jeff and Dan to do a series where they play through 2 player brawlers like Streets of Rage 2 and Double Dragon 2. I think I heard the Double Dragon trilogy is coming to Steam next week actually.

I've never seen this old arcade version of Goemon before. Interesting how they pulled the music from this game for the SNES game. Art style is a bit different though

The changing colours of the field in Scramble reminded me a whole lot of Desert Golfing. I wonder if that was an intentional homage.

Oh, Jeff you money wastin' fool. Thank god it translates into entertainment for users, are these exuberant purchases considered tax deductible? I think they would be given your line of work, here's hoping. What was your biggest purchase that you regretted? Did you accidentally buy a (what the hell do they call digital graphic novel adventures?), whatever the hell it's called. I did once for the PSP, thinking it would be a cool vampire game based off of Blood+ and instead was a text adventure game all in Japanese. It taught me to never go Japan, and sometimes go Asia since they tend to have an English option like for DJ Max (or DDR for lazy people).

The Music from the 2nd game was ripped off of legacy of Kage, an NES game and sped up. It's a MUCH better game.

I think the best example of what a 3d brawler could be is God Hand. You have to be down for some fighting game style mechanics and plenty of japanese weirdness though.

I think Dan's just confusing Quest 64 with the N64 Goemon games. They looked reasonably similar, graphics-wise.
