Quick Look: Dark Souls Remastered (Nintendo Switch Handheld Mode)

I assume a lot of people here didn't watch the video, because in it very near the beginning Brad specifically says Namco Bandai was embargoing websites from showing anything BUT the game running in handheld mode until release. So, relax, calm down, take your PC master race pills and relax...no, filming the screen of the switch for quick looks is, I'm sure, NOT going to be a regular thing going forward.

I like ds2 the most of the trilogy :P I know i know...

I was also very surprised when I've bought ps4 with bloodborne and ... I could not connect online without plus. wtf

In literally the first minute they say they weren't allowed to record this in docked mode.

@north6: The intent of showing the handheld mode was described in the first minute of the video and not something they wanted to do.

Dark Souls happened. To expect different is to crave dissapointment!

Yeeaaaahh—this is great for those 5 people who still haven't played Dark souls because they don't have a PC, or a modern console. At least the launch PC port is no longer the worst version of this game.

@hiczok: you’re not wrong, although I think DS3 is a perfect balance and the best of the Dark Souls games. People view DS1 through rose tinted glasses and tend to forget the many terrible bosses and awful areas, not to mention that no fast travel throughout the first half was more tiring than immersive - especially in a game where you don’t know where to go and can end up making it very far into an area you’re not supposed to be in.

@quantris: Both PC versions are totally dead now. Since they delisted the original and pushed the new version, the playerbase for the original is totally gone. I've been playing through the remaster and I've managed to play online like twice, and I'm already on to fighting the 4 big bosses. The "remastered" graphics actually look kind of worse in a lot of ways, and there were still plenty of bugs and hackers in that version. It never really got fixed, so everyone stopped playing the remaster too. If you want to play online at all, you have to get a console version, and I'm going with Switch. I just want good old Dark Souls back.

The reason the game doesnt stop when you pause is because it's always online, not because it's being shitty. This port looks awful.

I loved this game when I played it back in in 2011. What does it say about the impact it had on me where at the 2nd minute or so, I thought to myself "Oh yeah, there's a guy hugging this ledge and behind him is the tunnel with poisonous rats."? Like, from nearly 7-year old memory. Also, Dark Souls came out 7 years ago.

I love this game, but unlike Demon's Souls, I couldn't find the will to replay it to grind for those achievements.

@sessh: yep, here. Jumped late onto the DS train, played DS3 and waited for 1 on the Switch. We're out here!

Has GB thought about getting a capture mod for the switch? Would that satisfy the embargo requirements :D

I was already feeling a bit uneasy when it was going to be 30 fps, but it seems worse than that. I am still tempted to get it, but this seems no better than Dark Souls PC with the old DSfix (before the 60 fps option) which I already have at my disposal and I even play my Switch docked and connected to my PC's monitor.

I keep forgetting how nitpicky and demanding Dark Souls fans can be.
