Quick Look: Dead Island Riptide

It's super disappointing that they made this game at all. Dead Island was one of those games that I thought was a good proof of concept at its core, but needed A LOT of refinement which would hopefully come in a full sequel. Instead, they put this out for near full price and didn't fix a damn thing. What a cash grab.

What is wrong with the term "stand alone expansion?" Why would we ever need a new term to describe the same thing?

Standalone expansion = Expandalone.

I'll be honest, I always thought that Dead Island was kind of garbage.

This game looks like such crap visually that I had to debiggen the video or I may have been violently ill.

I don't understand why they would repeat the same flawed formula that was panned for the most part. I just don't understand why they wouldn't refine all the problems that players brought to their attention.

Except with Dragon Age, there's at least a story you might be interested in.

I loved the original Dead Island. LOVED it. The analogue combat alone had me hooked and wanting more. I didn't get the last DLC because it looked like it was crappy arena fighting, and not playing to the game's strengths. I liked the open world, strolling around where I wanted, fighting and avoiding what I wanted, and most important of all, chopping everything up that I wanted.

This DLC will have to be one huge piece of shit for me not to bite.

It's only $40.

And on the PC, you can generally find it much cheaper. I got it for $24 on Greenmangaming during a pre-order deal.

I'm still in the resort area in Dead Island one and really loving it. I'll have to get through the rest of the game and see if it still holds up for me before I think of ever getting this, but the fact that's it's 98% the same game is really disappointing.

Fuck this expandalone (I also sign off on this being the perfect name for this kind of not-quite-sequel), I want a legit sequel!

I'm with you, was a huge fan of the original, played through it twice on the PC. Yeah, it had some problems, but none of them kept me from having a lot of fun with it with 2-3 friends. I pre-ordered this knowing it would be more of the same because I wanted more of the same. The biggest complaint I had was the original was that the weapons degradation system was too harsh, but even that won't keep me from stomping more zombie heads.

Bring it on.

Oh look, Techland made an awful game. Who would have expected that? Everyone has to get lucky once right? After 15 years of game making and like a dozen games, their highest rated game is Dead Island, a buggy, half broken mess that features a ton of good ideas that are all horribly implemented. I rarely call out developers because they all try really hard. These guys just plain suck, though.

Stansion.

This game is £34.99 on Steam which is more expensive then original Dead Island at £29.99 in UK . I wouldn't call it expansion when its priced like sequel...

PS: Oh We are sorry that Bloody Torso for special edition offended you people. We are gonna sell it anyway.

If we're going to try to name this type of game in the same vein as the "Abilitease," I'm going to have to put $5 down on "Recyquel" as the best option.

It's an ugly duckling of a game for sure, but I mostly loved it playing solo. Its biggest detriments are a couple of insane difficulty spikes when doing the campaign on your own. Unlike Brad, I never got tired of the (analog) combat.

I'm against these so-called "expansions"! I'm with Brad on the "it has to require the main game be installed on your machine" to be an expansion. Barring that, any game where you bring over your save and you keep all the weapons and stuff you collected in the main game.

I think traditional expansions are just paid DLC now.
