These DLC costumes... Make me not want to play DoA.

Few games make me feel like a creeper when watching or playing them more than modern DoA. Which is a bummer as far as I'm concerned. The technical issues and sales practices of this one just make it an even bigger bummer.

Shame too because I loved Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore quite a bit.

P.S.

RIP Virtua Fighter

I've downloaded this and so far have bought one character, that being Kokoro. It plays well but man...

P.S. It's a really good fighting game.

I really hope Tekken still has that customization costume maker feature, picking up dropped clothing items and just making your own look was fantastic.

But yeah, DoA was and is a fantastic fighting game and one of my favorites but this shady business really turned it in to something gross. All these costumes would be fine if they turned DoA in to a full fledged Free Too Play game with every character unlocked. Same business DOTA has basically.

@ravelle: Custom costumes and even custom fighters have never really worked for me. I really dislike it in Tekken and SoulCalibur.

Hope you guys went into the game settings and changed the Breast physics...

Edit: Of course they didn't. Also, I like Spanish soaps/drama

Outside of the hypocrisy, I've played 10 hours so far (4 online and 6 in versus, training, and arcade) and am really enjoying it. Playing it as a button masher above normal difficulty online and off will get you owned pretty quick, so going into training and combo challenges is recommended first to get a better grasp on more advanced techniques. Online lobby has filtering options so you fight only players ranked within your level so you're not jumping into your first few matches against pros(hopefully). This isn't coming from a top tier player, either. I'm pretty bad and held my own just fine. Most good players I've fought against used block and counters frequently, so learn those.

I like it when boobs bounce in real life, especially even on es on the smaller end of the scale because you know the lady would've had to have had a real jolt to produce that effect, but I just don't get the same thrill from the simulation in this game. I don't mind seeing thigh physics either, the thighs should move a bit too. When you watch ronda rousey beat a woman up her ass if firm but really rocking about but the thighs are kind of constantly tensing and relaxing.

The MMO Black Desert has both boob juggle and butt jiggle.

I always did the challenges and missions but once I'm in an actual fight I forget everything in an instant and am way too busy trying to stay alive to do fancy moves.

@unastrike Whenever you get hit if you try to counter and fail you take more damage. So unless you know how to counter specific things you should just mainly try to block. Spamming counter just gets you killed quicker. There are multiple layers of stun and Also you can stun recover by holding in guard and wiggling your stick/D-pad then you also have tech rolls you can do by hitting guard on impact when you get knocked down.

If you want actually understand the game better I'd seriously HIGHLY recommend going through the tutorial in the training menu. It covers everything from simple movement to very specific things like how to deal with forced get up combos. Its very detailed and anyone serious about understanding how DOA5 works should really give it a go. I can't recommend doing that enough for new players.

This is what's so upsetting about this game. It's actually a really good fighting game, but it just keeps pushing the girls in your face with all the breasts and costumes. Like, holy shit, way to turn away a good chunk of people by that alone.

But yes, this is probably my favorite fighting game mechanically, too bad it has a stigma attached to it.

On the Xbox 360 version, I lost all my save data because there's a very specific, sorta convoluted way to update the game and keep your save data. Also, they didn't tell you about this until almost a day after the game came out!

I don't really care about the save data I lost since I primarily play online, but I lost my story progress, titles, unlocked costumes, unlocked movies, command & free training progress, and tutorial progress.

EDIT: shoutout to the people complaining about optional costume DLC and swimsuits per usual. You do know you can play the game just find without buying any DLC (in fact, you can get a good chunk of cool costumes easily)? You know you can use the costumes that don't gross you out? Guess not! :P

I have DOA5 Ultimate on PS3 full version and the videos are not included, you need to buy them seperatly, or go online and watch them for free. I like DoA but not what they have done with it. Selling you stuff like it is a free to play game even if you buy the full version.

This isn't just day 1 DLC, it's microtransactions. And there's degrees of dumbness to both DLC and microtransactions, some is totally okay and others are scummy. This game has some of the most insane microtransactions I've seen out of the box for a game.

@amyggen: All of the costumes up right now are previous DLC from Ultimate. And if you've bought them already for PS3 you can download them on PS4 version for free. That is why there is so much stuff out of the gate for this. Its literally all the DLC that they have put on the store for it since October 2013 when Ultimate launched.

I hear you. I've been playing DOA since the Dreamcast, so I'm not as aware I guess? If that makes sense. My friends and I played DOA because it was a good fighting game. Same with early Tekken and Virtua Fighter games growing up. Yes, both the men and women were dressed inappropriately for the genre, but it never was the main selling point for us. It seems more silly than anything. On a related note, no one has to buy the non-mandatory costume DLC or use the more revealing attire either.

I LIKE THIS GUY! Also, as always, DLC is optional. Not like a sub-scenario and have no idea what's in store. It's costumes that they clearly point out.

I realize that might be the case, but I'm really tired of hearing about it nontheless. Especially after Evolve pulled the same dumb dlc thing. The quicklook starts at 10min in if you are also tired of hearing about dumb dlc.

I get that games have different target audiences and that's all well and good, but WOW some of the stuff on that DLC storefront. I see now why they were so worried about the PC modding scene... They're basically going after the same market with some of that stuff.

That said, it looks like it plays really well and I do hope the PC port is solid. Been itching for a PC fighting game to keep me busy until MKX.

The issue isn't the DLC itself, it's how confusing the store setup is. You shouldn't have to go find a wiki/FAQ to figure out what you already own and what bundle comes with what. It's probably just as much the fault of the digital store as the game itself.

I move that it should be required that, if during any Quick Look cigs66 logs in, the featured game be immediately suspended and his stream watched for whatever length of time deemed appropriate.

No pun intended, but I feel like a lot of things about this game are blown waaaaaaay out of proportion. The whole dlc thing isn't perfect, but it isn't the abortion it's made out to be and if you don't want crazy breast physics and skimpy costumes...TURN ALL THAT SHIT OFF. It's genuinely not that big of a deal.

I may be a bit biased though considering I'm a fan of the series so uuuuuuuugh whatever.

Just a heads up for anyone trying to make sense out of the clusterfuck DLC in this game: if you don't want to buy everything piecemeal, that $92 bundle has all the costumes (minus some pre-order exclusives) and the other $92 Season Pass is all the future releases. Yes, I bought it. This game is great.

Whoa, I posted a topic on the forums the other day about the DLC for this game because there was some weird pricing issues in my region, but holy shit I had no idea how crazy this is. I don't know if it was because I live in Australia or it was just an issue with PSN at the time, but almost none of this stuff was for sale, it was just the fighters and one or two costume packs.

Either way, goddamnit Team Ninja... I really want to enjoy this game, but I just can't with how totally fucking skeevy it is. If you want to look at pictures of anime ladies, then go right ahead, but man I don't understand why anyone would want to pay 25USD to watch a 20 second loop of some CG girls rolling around on the beach. Unless you're trying to pretend it's something that it's not, why not just go watch some actual porn/hentai?

I agree.

If people don't want to use the costumes that gross them out, there are plenty that are pretty normal.

Breast physics can be set to off if they're so bothersome.

If you don't want to pay for DLC, you literally don't have to. In fact, there is a fair amount of costumes that you unlock just by playing the game, which isn't even an option in 99% of other modern fighting games.

This is the best DOA yet and people (who obviously don't play the game) keep complaining about the non-gameplay elements.

The DLC isn't even this games main problem. It's that it KEEPS FUCKING CRASHING. I got the game for Xbox One and every other time I search for a ranked match the game freezes and kicks me out to the dashboard. As someone who primarily plays fighting games online this is infuriating to me.
