I wish I have the time to play DOA, because the hold stuff is pretty cool.

I read somewhere that all this micro-DLC shit is because of the higher costs of making a game these days along with them trying to keep the base price at $60. I'm not sure how true it is, but It sounds plausible.

@ravelle You and me both duder. When I go online on any fighter I usually forget what I've learned and start mashing like crazy.

Edit: I think Street Fighter 4 does the same thing with the "You can download this free costume catalog thing but you can't use them unless you purchase them" thing. It allows you to see them in use when you play online. I guess it's a way for the devs to circumvent paying the patch tax consoles have?

I'm a Fighter is still an awful motto.

@perfidioussinn: Thank you! Exactly! The base game comes with something like 20ish costumes for OG DOA5 characters and 10-15ish for those they added in Ultimate and somehow people think this is still a ripoff.

I'm pretty sure base USF4 comes with like...4 or something like that. I think TT2 comes with a quite a few, but I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near as much as DOA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. As for anime fighters, all you get with those is alternative colors and, lest we forget, the last few all had release day-one dlc as well (including characters, voices, more colors...) and yet no one is complaining about that.

This game is getting a lot of hate over some dumb shit. Again, honestly, the only real complaint is that they could seriously do a better job at separating the dlc for core fighters and the disc game, but that's it. All the shit about breast physics, skimpy outfits, milking customers, and all that holds no water as far as I'm concerned. I feel like there's just a bunch of kneejerk reactions and a lot of people just want to pile on.

I remember forcing my friends to go with me to see DOA, a game I did not even like. I was so disappointed with Kasumi and we all thought the movie was dumb, pointless, and not sexy at all

I don't know, I feel as much like a pervert when I play DOA as I feel like a murderer when I play Mortal Kombat. I don't know why anyone should feel awkward playing this unless it's for the lack of equality. There's just not enough man-kinis and hot, sweaty man-junk physics.

There should be equality, for sure.

Saints Row did man-junk physics.

I didn't know Jason was such a prude lol.

"Equality" is a weird think to ask for in DOA because it's always been made by people who had specific artistic visions, them being heavily towards women sexy men strong isn't really a matter of stereotypes but their own visions. I don't think someone should have to compromise their videogame just to be absolutely equal, that's silly. Now more than ever we have the oppurtunity to purchase games from all denominations of the human experience.

That being said, it would be pretty novel if there were more games that treated female and male the same when it came to objectification. I suppose homoeroticism may still be a taboo in Japanese society so we might not ever see that out of those developers. I guess it really wraps back around to supply and demand, the 99.9% that buy DOA want to see pretty girl strong man not have both the women and men sexually gratified. It's coming from a place of ignorance but I definitely understand it. It would be nice though if we had more "fuck your convictions and your wants i'm making what i want to make" games, especially bigger budgeted ones.

The fact that Team Ninja decided to split the DLC content like that makes me worried that people are actually BUYING it.

What is wrong with consumers?

Man, I used to really love DOA2 back in the day. I'm tempted to pay the 13 bucks just for that incredible looking story mode.

Is the story mode really worth playing? I wouldn't mind paying $13 for it

If you have last gen console (or a Vita) you can get the story mode cheap with the full game if you look for a sale. DOA5 and DOA5 Ultimate were just on sale on PSN for $6 and $10. All Last Round adds to old consoles is the two characters and some new costumes I think. Last I heard the new stages and new engine were only for current consoles and maybe PC (Koei Tecmo has been really mum about which version is coming to PC)

I wanna get into 3d fighters, how mashy is DOA? i know at its highest level there is skill but i wonder how long it takes to see it. Does anyone ever transition from SF/ KOF and find it satisfying (within a reasonable time frame)?

@masterpaperlink: You can mash some out buttons and probably have a good time against the cpu or something, but like any other fighter, if you play someone who knows what they're doing, you're pretty much screwed.

I feel as if the game isn't that complicated if you're familiar with any other fighters. Yeah, you'll have to learn to move and think in three dimensions, but a lot of general knowledge and instincts from 2d fighters will translate over nicely. Honestly, the only thing I can imagine someone having trouble with is the hold system. It absolutely takes some getting used to, but...well...practice makes perfect and all that jazz.

The game has an awesome tutorial btw so that'll make your life easier if you decide to take the plunge.

This is kind of an unfair flip-out when Jeff said nothing in the past about all of the dozens and dozens of 99 cent outfits for the Borderland characters. And you can't even see your character in the game so it's completely pointless there.

Dynasty Warriors, another Tecmo Koei joint, also has paid costume DLC that doesn't affect the game except cosmetically. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

@onan: But neither of those games charged this much for costumes, so I feel like the flip-out is entirely justified.

I'm glad they pointed out the trouble with the dlc in the 5th game. It just seems like a scam to get people's money. Sure it's nice to give style to your characters but to be charged so much for costumes is just wrong. DOA5 was a good game but the dlc there just asking for to much.

I am so glad the DLC is as beautifully nonsensical as the story.

I am looking forward to sitting down through the wdf storymode with friends and a case of Oskar Brewery Ten Fiddy's. Worth the $40 for that one time alone.

I didn't know the DOA games actually were competent fighting games, always thought they were just crass things akin to BMX XXX. So that was an interesting revelation, even though I'm not much of a fighting game guy.

I don't think he was so much against the idea of paying for costumes as how incredibly poorly the game conveyed what was included in the edition of the game he already owned. He had bought the game but was still shown the options to buy the characters he alreadt owned, and nowhere was it made clear if that $92 costume pack included stuff he already owned or not.

I tried playing this last night on Xbox One and it froze every time I tried to go online or accept throwdowns. At least the operating system doesn't lock up when it crashes, so you can (at least) get back to the dashboard.

This is the only fighting game I ever got good with so it's a shame that I can't actually play it with others. I'm getting the sense it's time to focus on a different game...maybe Mortal Kombat X.

I think it kinda makes sense for fighting games, particularly if you only plan on playing them online. I bought Super Street Fighter 4 which had 35 playable characters, but only ever used two of them and barely touched any modes besides practice and online. If I could have had access to those things for less than $10, rather than paying $40 (especially if I could just turn it to "exhibition mode" whenever I wanted to unlock everything for local play), I would have been totally down for that.
