Quick Look: Dishonored

I absolutely love these types of games, but weirdly this doesn't excite me at all. Must be the setting or something.

So, it's just Deus Ex but with a boring story/universe? Actually, scratch that, it's way more Bioshock, which I can't stand. Bleh. I'll pass. Don't get why everyone's going nuts over it. Different strokes I guess.

Please...Deus Ex is an amazing game. Comparing this to Bioshock is a complete abortion of common sense. This game looks very good, better than Deus Ex, actually, in terms of stealth. :D

That pulsating heart thing is badass. I am spending money now.

I don't see it. Not sure if that game is mediocre or just Patrick and the not at all interested Ryan are the problem of this QL/game for me.

Also, Bioshock 1 looks better then this. Please if you can stick to PC versions i mean damn this looks bad.

I like the way rock and stonework looks in this game. Stylized and poly-efficient.

Better platforming is not "accessiblity". That's actual game design evolution. Don't feel too bad, Scoops; it's been so rare for so long that most people now make that oversight, too.

The loadtime tips are lazy and demeaning.

Game looks great ... but kind of a boring QL. Sorry.

Very good Quick Look, Patrick. I feel like I understand what this game is, now. That said, I'm not sure I'm really into the oddly flat look this game has going on.

@zymbo: No, I agree, Deus Ex is one of my favorite series. I'm just saying this doesn't look anywhere near as good. And I didn't see enough interaction with characters and choices in that sense to make it seem more like DX. Instead, it just seemed like Bioshock, with the powers and all.

Yeah, I get that. Love open-ish games where I can choose stealth to take people down etc. Such as Deus Ex. The setting is really putting me off too. It is kinda like a gimped steam punk universe. Not interested.

This looks interesting, and I did like Human Revolution.

The setting seems cool as well.

Outsider, Mark of the Outsider, Calista... is this game a spiritual sequel to The Last Story?

I haven't really been all that interested in this game but I'll be damned if I don't love the look of it.

For me, I'll probably get X-Com but since I've got so many other games coming, I'll wait until it's had a price drop so I can spend the amount of time necessary to really dig into it.

It isn't. It's very well made and slick. Dishonored is one hell of a masterpiece.

I would love to say I am so ready for this game but I'm still playing Borderlands 2. Also, I want this on the PC so until I upgrade I'm not buying any PC games. Soon, hopefully. This looks so like the type of game play I adore. Good stuff.

Hate the whole pause full screen menu just to change your one weapon/power in combat. The enemies all looked boring and easy too but maybe it's just that part of the game. The setting and the powers look cool though.

This game is masterpiece, the gameplay and graphics are beautiful. It is like playing in a Picasso painting. Combat & stealth is sleek and feels natural.

I know there're dark magic and mythical entity and all but...that possesion mechanic is ridiculous.

You just pop-out of other being?

Blink and possession seem like a lazy way out to me.

@darpa: When you put it that way, I have to agree. However, it reminds me of Gambit, so I like the idea. In addition, this is making me want a new Thief game.

Wasn't it the borderlands 2 quick look ex where people complained the guy was silent and not describing mechanics well enough? And now you're bitching about Patrick being TOO vocal. Man you people are never happy...

I get what they were going for but the art style just comes off incredibly drab. Maybe it looks better on PC but this game does not look good here.

Why don't they just record the QL prior to uploading it, giving them time to concentrate on playing the game and showing the main systems? They could edit out the stuff the isn't essential. I know this would probably be more time consuming, but it seems that it would make for a better experience for the viewer, and be easier on the GB staff. At the very least, maybe have a checklist of things to show for each game.

was bored 25 minutes into it (the actual game), nothing really new, combat isn't anything special and it doesn't look amazing even maxed on pc, shooting combat blows and the melee kills are average which is no good considering it rides on it. the steampunk or more accurately poorly executed steampunk world is also kind of blehh, seems very eastern european in the bad way... guess back to borderlands 2??

so i've been playing this game for a while now and it reminds me of the thief games a lot

Wow, framerate was terrible in this video. Do the console versions really run THAT poorly? Also, I giggled when Patrick pronounced "chasms."

Given his age and the fact that he's generally more of a reporter than a reviewer, I get the impression that Patrick hasn't played THAT many games. As in, he plays about as many games as a lot of the users on this site. Not a bad thing, but he certainly doesn't have the pool of knowledge that Jeff, Ryan, or Brad have, and like you, I've noticed that there seem to be glaring blind spots in Patrick's knowledge of video games. The original Deus Ex being seemingly his ONLY point of reference for a revered stealth game is a particularly good example.

Though in all honesty, Dave is probably the only person on the site I would expect to actually have much experience playing the Thief series. Maybe Vinny?

Hitmans is coming out in a few weeks. All will be well when the Hitmans are available for purchase. :D!

Playing this like I play all stealth-based games. Super hard and as non-lethal as possible. Getting the "stealth mileage" to the max, you know. :P
