Rocket hits are too easy and the ammo is too plentiful for them to do anything higher than 1/3 of your health bar. Doom's rocket launcher felt fantastic, but it wasn't an automatic kill like it would be here.

I will say that if you have a PC that is the way to go with this one. I rented it on PS4 and the load times after a death are driving me crazy. Had me wishing I had it loaded on my SSD to alleviate that issue. So far it reminds me a lot of Bulletstorm with it's focus on fast paced shooting. Still it's the type of game that for me is a bargain purchase down the road. Not saying it's a bad game at all. It's simply the type of title that is very light on story and narrative. Which is fine but I tend to lean more towards FPS like Wolfenstein New Order which was fantastic in both aspects.

Looks neat.

Really dislike how Bethesda can make it's own rules when it comes to steampages though. An indiegame wouldn't get away with that.

On the flip side, though, it is shady as HELL (ho ho ho) that ID Software scrubbed Steam of negative reviews of the Beta. Steam already labels early-access reviews as such with a impossible-to-ignore notice at the top of said reviews, so it's not like the publisher/developers had any legitimate concerns about people thinking that the Multi-Player Beta Test coloring their review score. It just reeks of tone-deaf arrogance -- "How dare these peasants give our perfect game a negative review! They just don't understand our art!"

I don't understand how it makes any sense to even have the capability to write reviews on a Beta. I don't blame them in this case. Especially when you consider how many people use user reviews simply as a soapbox, not even really considering the quality of the experience.

for anyone interested, the PS4 version is 100% perfectly fine. I rolled my eyes at Brad's little dig on getting it for anything besides PC.

I really liked Rage, great shooting, enemy behaviour and visuals on xbox 360. If this has a steady framerate on xbox one I might get this at a later date.

@eaxis: I don't see any mention of melee stuff on his timeline. He seems to be enjoying it, but my expression of disappointment wasn't that Doom is a bad game, but rather a seemingly fun game that features a lot of meleeing stuff for health. Others have said it's not as necessary as Brad makes it out to be in the QL, and I hope they're right. I'll probably end up playing this game eventually, but I still think the melee stuff is kind of lame in that it's very repetitious with the animations.

I also never grew up with Doom. While it's cool that people seem to enjoy it's old Doomness, it's just not something that's super important to me. I'm glad they went for it, though.

Not saying I hate this game because of that, but the praise seems odd considering what MachineGames did a few years ago.

I thought at first I'd totally hate the Glory kills for breaking the flow of combat but fortunately they fit right in. Its almost disappointing when I straight up meat grinder them with my guns instead of my armored hands sometimes!

One of the devs said they were very heavily influenced by Machine Game's work so I'd say its a good thing Wolf TNO did well.

@neozeon: Definitely, I think the context of 'nightmares' works a whole hell of a lot better than secret areas for shoehorning in a reference for the old version of the games. But, I haven't played DOOM yet, so maybe it'd make more sense once I've seen the whole thing.

Hold on a second, the guy called S. Hayden seems evil? Damn Doom, what're you gonna pull next? This does look rad though, I definitely share concerns that the melee kill stuff will grow old, but it seems fine so far. I love Doomguy's flagrant disregard for technology.

I was surprised to see this game didn't make me sick as id's tech 5 engine is one of the worst offenders of fov sickness I've ever had. Looked up the engine and it's under the new id tech 6 so hopefully this is a new generation of finally playable Bethesda era id games

Unfortunately I could not find a video of it happening. But the first fight minutes into the game is with regular enemies who can totally kill you while you're trying to figure out the controls, haha.

If you base it on the start of the gameplay, it's 6 seconds and might very well be the new champion. No extra points but yes extra fun for it being during the cinematic intro scene.

But I think official Time to Brad is based on the start of the Quick Look, not the gameplay. By that standard I'm not aware of anything that has topped Nexuiz from @mustard's list.

Personally, I don't count multiplayer shooters so New Super Mario Bros. Wii is still first in my heart, especially since he bullshits about the first death being someone else's fault and runs out of lives in about a minute before anyone else has died once.

As far glory kills, I mean, they're just part of the combat. Sometimes you shoot, sometimes you tear people apart. The split is just fine to me! They're also a nice way to collect your thoughts for a quick second.

@hatking: It is actually really jarring when you "open" the path to the old Doom levels in this new version. The game blasts a part of the old soundtrack out of nowhere and it just doesn't sit right with me for whatever reason. As you mentioned, the "Nightmare" sequences at least made sense from a plot standpoint. Then again...it's Doom so I'm not expecting miracles.

Alright...maybe I was a little bit. Still a fun game though.

I only wish I could gush about this game more. It's simply amazing. I don't realize I have been holding my breath until the fight is over and the heavy metal stops. Each encounter literally has me shaking a little bit from the intensity. The chaingun, the combat shotgun, and the plasma rifle have been my go to weapons so far.

Guys, there's a mod for the chaingun that turns it into a mobile turret with 3 smaller chainguns on the front. Just pull the trigger and it DUMPS on fools. Best gun in the game IMO. At least it's the most fun. And when it runs out of ammo, you just chainsaw some demon and start over.

And btw, I've been playing on a GTX 950 at highish settings.. 60fps.
