This game looks rad af. Never played a Dragon Quest game before, but I’m 300% getting this next paycheck.

Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be some weird audio sync stuff going on this video.

I hope Jeff plays more of this. I crave endless Dragon Quest content on this great website.

Every time I hear Dragon Quest it makes me think of Dragon Warrior Monsters- where you catch all these dope ass slimes. Another one of those would be great.

Hearing the DQ theme got me amped up all over again. Seems like nostalgia is the best and worst of DQ11.

Edit: from my understanding of the DQ lore, puff puff is basically motorboating, I think? It has something to do with boobs in any case, I'm pretty sure.

Close enough. I learned it from OG Dragon Ball. Place face between the... puffs... and use your hands to press them against your face.

It's going to take me a month to get through this game, but I don't mind. It's just so damn charming.

This game looks waay easier without the "Super Strong Enemies" Draconian Quest option. Those Bongo Drongos took me about 4 attacks to take down.

First off, Puff Puff is 100% motorboating in dragon quest. Akira Toriyama is a big time pervert.

Second, this game is resolutely old fashioned in the best way possible. It feels like a cozy alcove with a book and a window looking out into the rain, i love it

Yeah, it's pretty much motorboating. It was made up by Toriyama in DB and from there became a running gag in DQ since Toriyama has always been involved in the series.

As much as I love DB/DBZ, Toriyama has always been kind of a pervy creepo.

Jeff, that skill system is the sphere grid. Those are hexagons but it is absolutely still a sphere grid.

This looks like some good wholesome fun; Lump Wizards and all. Not usually my type of game, but it looks like a world I would like to get into. (If you haven't seen Tim Rogers' 36 minute video review for Kotaku you're missing out.)

Wasn't actually expecting a quicklook for this game so happy to see it pop up.

It's a shame they didn't reach the boss of this dungeon though, it's got some pretty good lines.

Don't get me started. I'm honestly surprised to find out he's British. I was trying to place the accent last night and I settled on a Norwegian who learned English in the UK voicing a character that is supposed to be from Brooklyn but substituted about 25% of that accent for the Chicago Bark instead.

It's legitimately revolting.

Jeff's honest enjoyment of DQXI brings me joy, and I don't know why.

I think that took me about 2 mins.

I mean... if you've seen any movies or TV in the last 20 years, you know what British actors doing bad American accents sound like.

They would know what puff puff is if they'd watched original Dragonball.

Oh keep playing it Jeff, for you. We can tell you enjoy it on that certain level.

My first Dragon Quest and I'm excited to get going.

I'm enjoying the game so far primarily because the enemy animations and designs are amazing, but there's definitely a lot of JRPG / Dragon Quest anachronisms that are putting me off as someone who has gotten on a JRPG kick lately. Inventory limitations and management are slightly annoying and battles are shallow and slow (so far). For the almost 10 hours I've played, it's pretty much just hit guys, heal occasionally, upgrade your equipment, make some light skill choices, and make sure you're leveled up enough. And it's slow enough with a stock standard JRPG plot that there's not much to push you along.

Just finished the first Trails of Cold Steel remaster for PC and in comparison the fast travel / turbo button made that game seem lightning quick, even if it took me 50+ hours to play through. And right off the bat that game has tons of different systems, attack types, side systems, and strategic considerations on your party loadout. I'm just not sure a by-the-numbers old school JRPG works anymore, even if it is very well made, but the reviews are enough to make me give it more of a shot.

Playing through Dragon Quest VIII again on PS2 and it's neat to see how many items cross over here. Scale shield, pointy hat, etc.

The symphonic suite orchestral recordings introduced in the NA/PAL versions is simply amazing and keeps me coming back. I hope the music in XI is good, but I bet it can't hold a candle to VIII's.

I'm hoping by the time it comes out on Switch I'll at least have beat a game or two.

Hopefully there's an option for the japanese voices, also i wish all these dubbed were by american speakers, that British accent never sits well with anything anime.

@vampire_chibi: there was no Japanese voice it was 100% text with the characters moving their mouths but not saying anything

Dragon Quest games do not have voices in Japan at all, they only added them for the western releases for 8 and 11.

I love the British sassy lady I'm not as far as jeff but this game is refreshing compared to the stress of trying to keep up with the newest wow expansion. I don't think I will ever beat this game since I still haven't even got halfway through tales of berseria, or valkyria chronicles 2 let alone the other 100 games I need to play
