Quick Look: Drawn to Death

I was expecting way worse from Dan's tirade on the podcast, this definitely seems lame, but honestly not any worse than half of the dumb shit on the Internet. I'd honestly rather play this than have to watch wrestling or read 9gag posts.

I wonder if the reason Dan is so mad about this is because he sees something of himself in it and he's trying to distance himself from it as much as possible? I've definitely had moments that I've been irrationally angry because something really lame felt like it was trying to represent me.

@pikapuff: I feel like the reason Dan has this passionate hate towards this game is because he is afraid this is how people see him, or rather how people perceive him when he is Dan but he thinks he is so much cooler but is he really? Reflection of himself but I like Dan so maybe I am just full of ish.

I think this game looks stupid.

I also think this game would be something that people would play in the late 90s after watching Attitude Era WWF RAW which had much of the same humour.

Meh, I think Dan is overreacting... Just turn off the announcer and ignore the memes. Gameplay doesn't seem horrible...

I can do without the style of humor but I think the gameplay and design looks cool. gonna check it out later today.

(I say this as someone who can't really stand wrestling) To borrow a phrase from Alex, it's definitely wrestling-adjacent - there's certainly parallels you can draw, and there's likely some shared influences. However, from everything I've seen of wrestling, it doesn't rely on beating the same joke over the viewer's head every 90 seconds. I'm not so sure the same can be said of Drawn to Death.

Like, I enjoy arena games like this, but for as much flack as people give Borderlands (I like Borderlands) for the meme humor, I feel this is way worse and is just unappealing.

All I see is an attempt at trying to hard that just ruins the game. I'll stick to Let It Die.

I'm with dan on this, is just trying to damn hard in every way, i get what they where going for with the art style but it just looks like absolute shit.

I kinda dig the aesthetic in this game because its really consequent. You gotta look at it more as "an art piece" and not as "you should be able to emotionally connect to whats happening". The game looks super boring tho.

I want to make it clear that I now like Dan quite a bit and appriciate what he brings to the site, because sometimes this stuff turns into hate fests and that's totally not the message I want to send, but yeah.

While Dan has grown on me (especially with the birth of NewDan) hes viceral "I want no part of this" recation is how I initially viewed Dan, the thing that won me over most with him was Danswers when he would drop his schtick and talk like a human being about his anxiety stuff (which may be related to why he felt the need to put on a character).

(also this game looks terrible)

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that found this game's "charm" completely off-putting.

@buratikid: So weird to listen to a half hour discussion about this game and they don't even mention the attitude/humor of the game.

Seriously. Some of the mental gymnastics going on of people trying to psychoanalyse Dan's dislike of this game are just strange. Maybe the game just sucks.

Watching this video and others, it certainly seems like the game just sucks. And the 'attitude' of the game really is that violently off-putting and lame to me as well, so I don't think Dan is overreacting or anything.

So did Dan like it or not?

You know its bad when even Dan finds your stupid humour terrible.

I played it for about an hour the day it came out, then immediately deleted it from my hard drive. I can't recall ever being turned away from something so quickly, determined to never return, especially since it was included in my PS Plus membership. I almost always play bad PS Plus games longer than I should, maybe to justify the membership to myself that month. Though maybe I did that here as well, since it was terrible from the moment it booted up and I gave it an hour.

Can we start a gofundme 24 hour Drawn to Death charity stream with just Dan and a bunch of alcohol?

I think that'd be pretty fun.
