I bought this immediately. Reminds me of the Airborn books a bit - I guess just the aesthetic aligned with what I thought those books would look like. Very very excited!

@flashflood_29:

The name of the song is "In the House-In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy. It's an original composition for the 28 Days Later soundtrack.

Great movie with a fantastic soundtrack, btw

As for Boogie Nights, it's my fav PTA movie (and one of my favorites of all time), though I have hated everything he's done post-Magnolia.

I'm calling it now, Frostpunk is my GOTY for 2018. It's absolutely fantastic, I heard Alex talk about it on the Beastcast and I've been playing it non stop since.

@nethlem: I've been playing so much of this game! I've done the first campaign a few times and I'm still working on beating the second. I absolutely want to try a no fash run of the first campaign at some point though.

@beartaco: Glad others are also having fun with this. Btw there's a trick to building in perfect rings, around the generator, without leaving too many nasty free spaces. It starts around 16:20 in this video:

Loading Video...

The video is a "perfect" playthrough of the first scenario on hard, nobody dies/no nasty laws.
It's a bit weird to get your head around it at first, but once you do you are able to squeeze in as many buildings as possible. Sadly the guy never uploaded the whole run, but the 3 episodes released are already a really good "optimum" guide.

Tho the game does have some RNG events that can mess up a no casualty run, like when sending guards after thieves/graffiti sprayers.

@nethlem: So I thought I did the perfect playthrough of the first campaign last night. I definitely could not do a no death run (though I may have to give it a go at some point), but I did a no fash run where I didn't take any policies from Faithkeepers onwards. I guess it's super arbitrary what triggers the "We didn't cross the line" ending, because my ending sequence was literally just like. "People were losing hope, so we built churches. But I fear we've gone too far" which was such a bummer.

@beartaco: Well the game does have some RNG, so getting an actual no death run, in the first scenario, involves a bit of savescumming with like 2-3 events.

Afaik the "I fear we've gone too far" ending is kinda like a "neutral" ending, there's a worse one if you took the ultimate laws in one of the respective trees and a somewhat "better" one if you didn't go too deep into any of the trees, the adaption tree involved.

Because even the adaption tree has some choices that affect the ending, child labor/prostitution/duel law being such. So it doesn't really matter if you pick Faith or Order law trees, as long as you are selective about what you pick, like: Torture is a big no no, having a prison is okay, but rounding up people at random not so much.

The game is a bit like Tropico as in how it keeps throwing optional choices at you, so the biggest challenge is resisting this "Gotta research/have everything" urge.

"I fear we've gone too far" is the ending you get if you chose to become fascist theocratic God King as well. I think the Adaptation laws were nothing compared to that route, so ultimately when I got the Gone Too Far ending I was left scratching my head. I hadn't built any cops or instituted public executions and it seemed like I was being punished for opening soup kitchens and doing nightly banquets at the church. I can see how using triage and corpse fertilizer might be seen as crossing the line, but considering where the faith/order paths go I felt cheated.

Anyway I just beat the second campaign which is absolutely fantastic, and I'm moving on to the third campaign which seems to be about a group of socialist revolutionaries which sounds interesting!
