My comment had nothing to do with Patrick's intelligence, I don't doubt he's a smart person that knows a lot about video games, just like the rest of the Giantbomb staff. The point I was making was that going on and on about a game's "systems" or spending a significant amount time of pondering about genre conventions doesn't always make for the most entertaining quick looks. Obviously there is merit to these types of discussions, but I find the best quick looks are the ones where it's just two guys chilling out and casually playing a game.

The music is so good. I seem to be the only one here who prefers the blonde sister's music though.

It actually looks kinda fun. I may check it out at some point.

Patrick always reminds of of Addy from the show Bones, because he's always analyzing and pin pointing. He's no shenanigans like Jeff or Vinny but he's great at giving information although I agree he has to loosen up a bit on quick-looks.

If you do a shot every time he says "mechanics" in a quick look you literally die. I'm a ghost.

I don't think I'll watch any more quicklooks where Patrick's driving though. Infuriating to look at.

Yeah back in the day my parents bought us a used C64 with a shit ton of games (I'm talking about those plastic containers that used to store, say, 30 floppies, and we had about 7 of them each (floppy) containing about what, 5 games maybe more?) and among them was The Great Giana Sisters.

I remember that game pretty well ( I used an Atari joystick to play it) cause it was the closest thing to Mario Bros. that I had at the time.

One thing though, back in the 80's I was pronouncing TGGS as Guy-anna and throughout this QL Ryan and Tricky pronounce it as Gee-anna. I wonder which it is?

Btw Patrick, I thought the QL was just fine. Sure you died alot, but I'd like to see these people, who are complaining, do any better.

This game is good because the fanbase is small and it has a wierd developement story! Lets explain nothing about the gameplay!

The more generic melodic metal music isn't that bad. I'd much prefer the music in this game (both sisters' music, they mesh well) to some shitty dubstep or indie rock that's still all over the place. "Look at me strum this open E chord! I gotz talent!"

Butt rock to describe this awesome music? Seems like an assholish thing to say

Exactly right.

The band uses a sid machine to incorporate various video game sounds into their music, and has for quite a long time. Maybe from first glance listening barely to the whole song and just a few chords Patrick heard something that sounded like generic rock, but truthfully it is so far from butt rock it isn't even funny. If you look in the urban dictionary it specifically lists bands like Creed/Nickleback as butt rock to be honest. Aka strumming the same chords repeatedly with generic sounding voices that are carbon copies.

Machinae Supremacy is nothing at all like any of the definitions described thus far. Listen to even their songs on the soundtrack for this game in whole, and you'll see it is the furthest thing from butt rock.

Me and my friends kept on playing the Amiga many years after other consoles came out, and it still has a special place in my heart. It is a shame that it was not as popular in the states, but here in scandinavia it was really big. (I am hoping @Jeff will have a premium stream of Amiga games one day)

One of my friends was so intent on playing Giana sisters every time he came over, so i ended up puncturing the floppydisc in hope that it would not read :P

I would have loved that music over my snes games.

Pretty trippy looking game. Interesting history, the similarity and divergence, complicated even by what ppl. had to play with. i liked what I saw, thought it unique. I'll never play it mind you, but i don't really play platformers of any sort. I might try Trine2...

Ryan impresses me at times, for someone himself who knows what it is to say the wrong thing. I'd say without going into specifics he turned that right around in this ql, and pointed the right direction for a certain part of the discussion. I've taken to Pat and value what he has been bringing forward for GB ...elsewhere.
