Quick Look: God of War: Ascension

I beat it, want to go back for the platinum, and this is not the best but also not the worst God of War. I prefer this over Ghost of Sparta by a huge margin and the multiplayer makes up for some of the single player short comings. For a B team game they did alright.

this is a very stopgap game, very very interested in seeing a god of war 4 and what shape that takes

Mount Olympus Cops!? now that's a TV show i would watch. Anyway I enjoyed the first God of War, but I really never felt the need for more of it. Surprisingly though the multiplayer seems like the most exciting thing here.

This game actually looks pretty good from this QL. I gotta say, that is some of the best breast physics I've seen in a video game.

Decided to look up 'The furies' out of curiousity. Wikipedia says -

I think my main problem is just how serious this whole thing is. When there are other options in the genre that trade in absurd style and spectacle, I would rather play those than the game that, although immense in scale, is just so dire all the time.

The camera pull-out for these setpieces is ridiculous. It's almost impossible to tell between Kratos and the enemies.

I had to quit watching this twenty minutes in because I *hate* everything this game appears to be. Sincerely, fuck you, Kratos.

So basically if you're a GOW fan and you've all of a sudden become offended over a single trophy name in a game where you are constantly dismembering enemies only stopping to have a 3-way, get over yourself.

That black with orange crystal guy is voiced by the same guy as the scoundrel from Diablo 3.

I actually prefer this new-ish way of the QTE prompts because if you stare at the middle of your screen, your eye's weird periphery vision can actually see the prompts without having to move your actual eye. Think (ironically) Sess pointed this out or someone did anyway

David Jaffe made GoW 1 because he loved Greek mythology. I think it's time to draw from some other well. If you think Kratos is a badass warrior, then how about a warrior from Norse mythology? That'd be the burliest burly man ever.

It's pronounced "heck-a-ton-he-rays." They were essentially people that had a bunch of arms a multiple heads.

Way less naked people in Norse mythology though. :/

So I love God Of War, I played through all 5 of the other games, but I feel that the 5 Assassin's Creed console games have done more to change it up than this series has. I don't understand how after the epicness that was GOW 3 how they felt like they could bring it way back with a prequel.

I'm actually surprised how redundant the combat feels just in a demo experience. But watching the Giantbomb quicklook, I might reconsider playing it later down the line. Not jumping into it since DMC and Metal Gear Rising are so rewarding experiences in this genre

I don't want to sound indignit or really old, but I feel like this God of War (and potentially the new Gears game) is just boring and that says a bunch to trying to sell another game. When they announced these games back at E3 I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt that "hey they might have something new to write about to keep me interested" but instead it just feels like a sad kind of cop out/cash grab to get people buying games before the next generation of consoles.

I agree with Patrick that if they went into a different direction by introducing other mythology it may build interest but if you boil it down GoW:A and the potentially the future GoW games will just be the same crap all over again.

Since this'll be the third GoW game to utilise that style of QTE, I think it's less ''newish'' and more the current standard :P

However Rune did that shit so perfect, nothing could come close.

David Jaffe's god of war 3 was going to start by you killing Zeus. After he died a portal opened and Gods from every other ancient mythology would come out and fight to take the place Zeus left. Kratos would end up pitting them against each other and they would become weak because the people being neglected in that time would stop believing, making them killable by Kratos.

I don't think it's possible to 1 up how God of War 3 opens, that shit is more awesome then most and might I say any action movie I ever seen.

Looks like another God of War game. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it doesn't seem as grand or as exciting as God of War 3.

God of War on PS4 is going to look INSANE.

Maybe it is naive to see 'Hecatoncheires' in the stage name and think the things you end up fighting in the stage really will bear any resemblence to the hundred-handers from the myths, which I always thought were some of the cooler legendary creatures. I mean, I know how little God of War is interested in straightforward depiction of its source material. But regardless, I am disappoint.

Dante's Inferno is pretty interesting source material too. Wish both of these franchises had more nerd friendly games. As is, they barely contain a narrative of any kind.

The only God of War games I really liked were Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Mostly because GOW's simplistic gameplay felt more at home on a handheld for me. When I'm sitting down in front of my TV on a console, I want something a little more complex and challenging.

Oh, look, his talons are like... hands, and those hands... have monsters with claws on them, kinda like finger puppets?

Never been particularly fond of this series, but man - they sure know how to make some ridiculous shit.

Not gonna lie, those are probably the best boobs in a video game ever. Way better than stuff like DoA or whatever where they bounce around all scary-like and just look nasty.

Also hey it is the elephant guy from Jade Empire. Also I would rather play GoW2 again.
