Quick Look: Hatred

My name is Noah Tim Portant. What is important is what I'm going to do. I just fucking hate video games and these human worms feasting on their carcass. My whole life is just cold bitter hatred. And I always wanted to make a boring game. This is the time of vengeance. And no level is worth playing. And I will make sure to bore as many people as I can. It's time for you to play. (Physics engine and explosions/fire seem neat, though)

The developers of this game played games media and social media like a fiddle.

Hey, if you wanna go on a rampage and do a murder spree, go buy GTA V instead. At least in that one if you get tired of killing, you can snatch a plane and do loop-de-loops.

Dude's got a pretty nice little house, in the beginning. Nice big kitchen, keeps his hedges trimmed ...

Yeah this game is an extra bummer for me because I really personally think it looks awesome on a technical level and a basic one. There could be a great game made in this engine.

The reaction to this game reminds me of my brother when we were kids. He was fucking TERRIFIED of Chucky from the Child's Play movies. Here's the thing though -- his fear was based off of VHS box art in video stores. When he finally saw one of the films (3 I think) he realized how dumb it all was and wasn't scared of it anymore.

This game is bad. It's not even worth critiquing or moralizing about. People should have just let it die.

I think this is more closely related to Grand Theft Auto than Postal. If you think about it, this is just killing civilians in GTA and then the cops come. You can steal the cop cars even. Why pay $20 for this when you can get GTA V which is 99% more game than this is?

This whole thing just smells like good marketing done in a really poor taste.

I think the Postal comparison comes from the WE'RE SO FUCKING EDGY attitude of both games, and the similarity in the looks of this game and the first Postal.

When I played Postal 2 like a decade ago I thought it was kinda fun, if not extraordinarily stupid. This just seems lame.

I'm actually really curious what their next game is going to be, if this one is successful enough to enable them to make another.

Yeah, not going to even bother watching this. After the outrage these devs intentionally drummed up a few months ago, this game should've come and gone without the ridiculous amount of press it's getting.

I kind of like the look of the game, too bad about the content.

The structural destruction and bright explosion effects look pretty damn good, but aside from that this is just unremarkable in every way.

This makes Postal look like a masterpiece.

I appreciate you guys at least taking this game seriously and not just freaking out.

I want to see this studio take that physics engine and do something meaningful with it.

Wish I could've heard the dumb story and laughed at it but they talked over it all.

As for the sales of this game on Steam, it's true like Jeff said that it looked like it would sell well based on its first day (was top of the sales list for that day IIRC), but it looks like it has dropped like a stone since then. I'm guessing that showing that the game is pretty unremarkable dissuaded a lot of people from buying it. It's currently not on the top 100 list on Steam.

Oh man I have been waiting for this Quick Look. If only I had this much enthusiasm for the actual game!!!!!

This looks like hot garbage. Jeff and Dan hit the nail on the head: it looks like a TV video game. A movie video game, like the game the kid plays in Home Alone 4. Edgy and violent? I honestly don't know what the fuss is. The execution scenes just look... Tame. Boring. I think the only thing this game has going for it is the destructible environments... Which look nice.

If I were to pit this against Hotline Miami in terms of being edgy and violent, I'd say HLM is leagues ahead of this hot mess. Although HLM has the benefit of being a fun game with good mechanics. It also actually does something interesting with the violence it portrays (there's that one scene early on in HLM2 that's particularly gruesome that made me a little uncomfortable watching; but I don't mind a game taking me out of my comfort zone, just like any novel I read).

The only thing that disgusts me about Hatred is that it looks like a shoddy game that played up its "shock" value in order to make money. And it worked.

There is a huge difference between Postal 1 and Postal 2. This game is literally Postal 1. Postal 2 has... it has things about it that are interesting
