What's with everyone at Giantbomb speaking in that dry monotone voice during these vids? Now Klepic is doing it too.

The issue is that Cutscene John Marston isn't the kind of asshole to go shoot up a town and be a villain on his own volition. He tends to be the kind who prefers working with people who aren't assholes and would only do so when he really has to. He only works with the Mexican army jerks because he thought they could get him his man.

I don't think Brad was talking about causing chaos in the open world, I think he meant standard mission-based mass murder.
Still, cutscene Marston might be doing those things for a reason, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a monumental scumbag. When played properly, gameplay Marston rescues prostitutes, while cutscene Marston turns his back on rape. He'll save his little family, but in the process ruin the lives of many more people, including his cutscene friends.

I wouldn't say that Crackdown even had climbing... It wasn't really anything more than vertical jumping over and over again. Which I enjoyed, mind you, but I wouldn't compare that system to this or Assassin's Creed.

Vinny's Law says that, in every game with user generated content, someone will almost instantly create a representation of World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros.

Good calls all around. Playing bad on hard seems to be the way to go since collateral damage = xp. And you're right, Infamous 2 is very much more of the same as well as a gamey game. Though 2 feels less awkward in it's handling of all the side missions/collectables. It's just as gamey at it's core. But it feels less gamey in practice due to how they weave character and story into all that. It's totally worth owning at $60, but I'm sure it will hold up fine for the year it'll take to drop half-price.

Just finished the game on hard and the evil L1+R2 skill was really helpful against the final boss. For most of the game, I actually preferred the hero powers. Not an overly difficult game on hard at any rate. inFamous 2 is selling for 70 Euro (~100 USD including tax) here, which is a bit much for me. However, I'm importing a copy from the UK, where it sells for £35 (~55 USD including tax), which seems totally reasonable for a bigger, better inFamous.

You know Brad, I've heard for years how you're bad at gaming, and I never believed it. But slowly I'm beginning to think this might be true :P. Nothing wrong with that, maybe it's just specific genres, because you could totally rape me in Starcraft.

@bunkerbuster05: I am led to believe that he is only good at Starcraft, because you watch this, then the Zelda quicklook, and you quickly loose faith in him.

Rescuing prostitutes doesn't have anything to do with rape. Marston won't even accept prostitutes.

Most of the characters he meets aren't friends. They're guys he's forced to work with to progress. He doesn't even like being around them, but he sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to get his family back. Marston may not be a clear-cut hero, but he's generally the least scummiest of the characters. He may not be out to save the West, but he's not out to make it worse. If he has to gun down countless Mexican peasants just so that Ross gives his family back, then he'll suck it up and depopulate Mexico. Doesn't mean he'll enjoy it.

That and he is a former Outlaw. He's not an innocent by any means.

I don't know, I think the guys who attack them might have something to do with rape, but whatever, that was just an example of his random good deeds contrasting with complete apathy at certain points in the story.
The people he's forced to work with aren't his friends, but I was talking about those who were.
Anyway, the whole point was just  that "noble" is not a description that fits the character.

This part is even much better than the first. Infamous 2 has great mission variety, smoother traversal (both in terms of the city design and Cole's powers), and excellent set pieces. Challenging, but rarely frustrating. I really loved it.

The only real incentive I'm getting from playing as Evil Cole in inFAMOUS [1] is that the powers you attain are of a much more offensive nature (e.g. electric blast that causes enemies to explode and harm anyone near them or shockwave that causes enemies to get electrified) as opposed to Good Cole's more defensive powers (e.g. headshocks have a chance of healing you or shockwave that cause enemies to float in the air for a certain period). The offensive abilities make the game more fun as it suits my playstyle but that really doesn't justify the character's drastic change of morality in-game. Here's hoping for a more nuanced morality system for inFAMOUS 3...

Can't believe this came out so close to E3 last year. Shame.

Also, unskippable 30 second ads now? That's worse than YouTube.

@TheHT: Premium bro, once I got it I can't live without it. One of the few gaming sites where it's actually worth it.
