Quick Look: Jazzpunk

Yup, some history on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phreaking#2600_hertz, which also inspired the long lived hacker magazine 2600 Magazine: The Hacker Quarterly (and I really recommend listening to their podcasts and radio shows - they have almost all episodes dating back to the early 80's archived on the site, and there's a lot of fascinating computer and communication history documented there).

Not sure I'm feeling it. I might have to play it myself, though. I sometimes get put off whenever people introduce something as really funny, and then set it up as, "if you don't like it, you're a monster that hates fun." However, I paused the QL in case I want to check it out myself. I might actually like it separated from the hype and expectation.

So 15 minutes into this quick look and i haven't even come close to cracking a smile.

This looks extremely unappealing.

@vod_crack: I was thinking the same thing while watching. The animations for the objects and characters combined with the absurdity of the gags is very reminiscent of Lego Island.

I was already loving this after the first few minutes, but the Evil Dead 2 reference sold me. I would like to buy it but I don't know if my shitty PC could even handle this.

Some people just don't get this kind of humor, it's understandable. I find it hilarious though.

For those stuck on the fence, the first mission is probably the least funny of the lot (though it's still funny).. by the end of the game it's truly firing on all cylanders

Well this seems delightfully bizarre. Just astoundingly fantastically silly. I must buy this.

I quite like Airplane! and Naked Gun... huge Lego Island vibe coming from this game though. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.

I was just about to say that this felt like an Adult Swim cartoon; I guess now I have my answer as to why.

This game tries way too hard. Not interested.

Adult Swim is the publisher. Just like with Volgarr they had nothing to do with the development.

Woof! Try to sort out any micro-stuttering issues before capturing quick looks, please! I can't be the only one seeing all the stutter, right? It's a shame too, because I think the game looks great.

Sorry, the way I phrased that was a bit dickish but stuttering is a pet peeve of mine. Anyway, I don't think it's just on my end; I took a portion of the video and made it into a slowed down GIF:

When the character is moving the camera will stall once every 5th or so frame. In a 60fps video most people won't notice it but personally it drives me crazy.

Despite that, I really like the new video player! It seems to load way faster than the old one and it allows me to stream stuff in HD without it buffering.

Yup, they've shown this off at like half a dozen toronto shows. Look up the Toronto videogame group and the handeye society for details when more indie games get shown off. there should be another showcase in the summer called the bitbazaar.

Well, i really didn't notice the stutter in video but now, that i played the game, i can tell you the game itself is really stuttery. It stutters a lot despite runing at 60 fps.

Yeah, the new video player is great. Mostly for the reason you mentioned. :)

Damn, this game looks wonderful.

I had visions of Tim and Eric in several parts of this game, specifically Meemaw's pigeon pie sequence.

EDIT: And then I got to the part when they said Adult Swim is putting this out. My Tim and Eric senses were dead on.

I loved every minute of this. I need this game.
