Quick Look: LocoCycle

Short Circuit is really really bad if you try watching it today. Though I agree with Drew that 2 is a lot better.

I don't really think that the origins of the game as 360 title which was pushed onto the One later justifies how horrendous this looks. For one thing, you'd be justified in saying it looked like trash on the 360. For another, why the hell should the consumer give a shit what they had to do in the development process? All that matters to them is it's $20, looks like ass, repetitive and it's not funny - despite wanting so, so hard to be. Seriously, this game man...Why would you?

I know Giant Bomb generally gives crazy a shot, but damn did everyone sound surprisingly positive about this. This game looks TERRIBLE in every aspect.

When you have Robert Patrick, Tom Savini and Lloyd Kaufman and you still deliver just plain bad EVERYTHING it's very hard to give it a pass.

Don't get me wrong, Splosion man and Ms Splosion Man were great. The Gunstringer even had some qualities worth mentioning but holy shit this is awful.

This looks really dumb, and not in a Saint's Row 4 kind of way. I think the only time I smiled was the intro.

Did Twisted Pixel just forget how to operate a camera, shoot video and edit footage? Jesus Christ.

As soon as it's in a game the long history of comedy goes out the window and everything is serious business.

There hasn't been a game in a long time that has looked as insanely boring as Knack. I'd play through LocoCycle 10 times before I'd even think about playing Knack.

Props to the Comet Caliente appearance. Twisted Pixel is ok by me if they're into Mercury's.

The fact that those blue streaks coming off the back of IRIS are hollow drives me CRAZY.

It bugs me that Twisted Pixel have no issue reusing sound assets from previous games, it's not even a throwback joke but a complete reusing. Urggh! Bad investment Microsoft.

I'm shocked this didn't get cancelled. I don't think I've ever seen a first party game that looks this bad. That FMV is all terrible. Some of the worst directing and editing I've ever seen. I'll be surprised if the studio isn't closed. I really don't want to wish ill on anyone, I'm just kind of in shock over how bad this game seems. Also Twisted Pixel's art design has always been terrible and this is no exception.

Holy mother of God this looks terrible. Like unbelievably awful. Graphically, this would be ugly for a 360 game and the menus and UI look like something out of Perfect Dark Zero. Whoever directed the FMV sequences did a shitty job as well; the camera work is so amateur. The fact that it is also painfully unfunny and the gameplay looks boring as hell do not help at all.

Why is it demeaning to be a skilled worker like a mechanic?

wow...this game looks like total shit. Honestly, the TP library is pretty lame when you look at the whole thing. Unfortunately, even the FMV in this game looks terrible. Also, still not sure why Lisa Foiles is popular. Because she's another female gaming personality who dresses in sexy cosplay?

I'm a Spaniard and that Spanish is fucked up. I honestly don't understand why they didn't pick an actual Spanish speaker to do the voiceover...

I don't think this looks that bad; the concept is the right kind of dumb that I could potentially get behind.

But yea, it sure could use much better editing and execution across the board. I feel like it's just a few steps away from being pretty okay.

The Maw was a good time.

Vinny telling Patrick that he "makes him feel bad for laughing" was perhaps my favorite moment. Thanks for vocalizing that!

Terrible production and excuse of humor wrapped around a mediocre execution of an arcade shlock.

This may be deemed a humorous or comical game, but it may actually come from a very sad place.

I think that "Powered by Beard" video was possibly the best part of the game shown in this Quick Look.

I will preface this by saying I haven't played either game and have only seen videos. Knack looks kind of generic and inoffensive while this game looks downright terrible.

I'm with the GB crew on this: If Twisted Pixel is going to continually focus on deliberately dumb FMV, they should really go the whole way and just make Night Trap instead of trying to couch it all in an abysmal looking "action" game.

Its debatable what Hispanic actually refers to, but if you really wanna get technical, either one would apply to me.

What a bummer. There seems to be some mildly funny stuff in here but the vast majority seems kind of lame and the "hey, the main character speaks Spanish because people who speak Spanish sound funny" joke gets real old, real fast. And I say as someone who liked all of Twisted Pixel's past games, even Comic Jumper.

You know, I actually think both bikes' dialogue is consistently well done. In particular I was impressed with how Lisa Foiles' performance kept on point despite how easily it could have gone given that it's a "robotic" character. With that said I still like that it's Robert Patrick just being Robert Patrick and that's great.

Basically if everything else in this game is lacking, and it seems like it is unfortunately, then I gotta give props to how IRIS and SPIKE turned out.

@brad Regarding the move from blue-screen to green-screen, if you're working with a single-chip camera, you want to use green because it has twice the resolution of blue (or red) due to the bayer filter they use.

Many films still use blue-screen because they're using 3 chip cameras (or film) so red, green, and blue all have the same resolution, and blue is further from red in the spectrum so skintones are less likely to be affected.

Whether you use blue-screen or green-screen also depends on what your subject is.

As a Hispanic person I feel comfortable saying don't be crazy. There's nothing offensive about this. How bout the fact that one of the main characters is a Hispanic actor playing a Hispanic person who speaks spanish and isn't dressed like a cholo as opposed to it being 'stock white guy'?

Huh?!? How did you get that from this game? Freddy Rodriguez, who is 1st generation American, is speaking Spanish in his completely normal voice.

The gag is that the bike can't understand him, so she's constantly misinterpreting what he's saying. She'll ask a question like, "Which way should we turn?" and he'll say "Ahhhhh! Get me off of this!", and she'll respond with something like "You're right, let's go left."

Absolutely nothing in there about Spanish sounding funny.
