Quick Look: Mind: Path to Thalamus

I'm such a sucker for first person puzzle games in cool environments like this.

When you die, you merge with Ed Boon.

There's some pretty interesting symbolism going on here. Made by someone with a concrete vision. Really visually striking.

The developer did an amazing job.

EDIT: Thalamus means "chamber" or "room" in greek. This game could get pretty deep.

One of two things is going on here: Either this person is trolling, or they're serious and you're inviting them to be all show-offy. Don't engage, man.

Exactly the comment I was coming here to leave, also I love Dan's explanation of the cave, while I couldn't remember the exact allegory I do remember enough to know it wasn't what Dan said.

Dan's into lucid dreaming as well? Man this guy really is a man after my own heart. I bet the books he was talking about are the same ones I have.

I absolutely adore some of the visuals in this. One can only hope that whoever is behind this gets something like a bigger budget in the future. I would love to see the mind that came up with this properly get to cut loose.

This game would be much more appealing if the protagonist wasn't constantly yammering about his feelings and life. I'd rather read notes.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Dan was definitely on point with the "The Cell" reference.

@trafalgarlaw: Alright I'm an over-educated shitbag who grew up learning about the brain thanks to my psychiatrist mother and had ancient greek symbolism taught to me by unbelievably hoary professors, and I wouldn't expect a single other person to have pulled any of those things out of their mind. This game was obviously a passion project that I'm guessing was packed with all sorts of obscure references that weren't meant to be hamfisted, but more of a reward for people who shared the same passions as the creative director.

It's a very surreal game for sure.

Looks good. That main character is painfully annoying though.

So what's the puzzle here? Locating your W key and holding it down?

This game went downhill after the tornado.

Drew and Dan are quickly becoming my new favourite Quick Look combo.

Love the look and style of this… but man, the writing… someone get this guy some Elavil.

I agree with people that the writing and the puzzles aren't all that great, but man that art is just so good, that I'll have to play this anyways.

Yeah, had the writing been decent this kinda could've been Dear Esther with actual game mechanics. I still want to pick this game up though, it looks absolutely stunning.

This looks genuinely interesting. First QL I've stopped watching midway in a while, because I want to see this game for myself.

Ok if nobody else is going to do this:

Allegory of the Cave by Plato recounted by Socrates in The Republic.

The basics of it go like this: a group of people are trapped in a cave and can only see reflections and shadows on a wall. They believe the shadow are real creatures because this is all they have known their entire lives. One man escapes and tells them about the real world but they laugh at him. The allegory is about the difficulty of obtaining knowledge and seeing past common perceptions and accepting mass belief as truth and about the obligation to spread truth, to go back into the cave once you have become enlightened and help others find their way out.

To be more specific, I find the Walking Simulator/ Pretentious game, Rogue-like and 2D retro platformer (and a few others) to be particularly boring to watch. I won't be discussing more than that, because you don't want an actual adult-like discussion, you want an arguement, as did the other guy.

What an entertaining quick look. I don't personally find the allure of this game, but as a quicklook it's both relaxing and funny.

Mechanically and story-wise it's not really grabbing me, but holy crap it's a pretty game.

I need to see this game for myself.
