Quick Look: Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

Naruto makes me actually not ashamed of liking DBZ.

After watching some of this, I think that if Naruto was a physical object I would like to angrily stomp on it until it's squashed and then stab what's left of it with a knife repeatedly until I would pass out.

...and I normally like anime.

so ok going to try to be non emotional here but I love anime so much and Naruto is such bad anime but it is what so many people only see when they hear anime. Sigh ... so Naruto is the closest type of anime next to Dragon Ball Z that is really just an American Saturday morning cartoon. Like that it is aimed at 12 year old male kids. There is SOO much more to anime than this. Acting like all anime is this would be like acting like all American movies are Rambo. Please don't. Hanaibai Renmei, Lain, even Eva are so so different. Okay, I was kinda down on the whole chorus of people saying Jeff and Dan should not have QLed Black Desert Online, but I'm thinking now, that okay, maybe GBEast should have done that, and Dan and Jeff should have done this.

@austin_walker you hit the nail on the head why many of us in the copyright world have major issues with youtube. The supers are the only thing about this game or the anime that are cool. If I can see them on youtube why play the game? Especially if I can see them on youtube for free ...

Goddammit now whenever I hear Naruto's lines I can only imagine them in Dan's voice. >_>

As someone who made AMVs as a middle schooler in the mid-2000s, that opening really wrinkles my brain. Is it 2007 again?

@beforet: It's all redone. There are a lot of moments in the game that haven't even happened in the anime yet.

Great call! In that light, I wouldn't mind a crossover game with a decent story that actually took advantage of what a crossover means. New relationships, bad guys being redeemed, good guys being corrupted, huge shifts in character dynamics because that one person is uniquely suited to take advantage of some alternate power source/ninja technique/etc.

Listen, it's fun to bust on anime, but I still like it.

It's so weird hearing the english voices for these characters.

Yearly reminded to the public at large that the Dragon Ball dub is really awful and people just have nostalgia for it because it was their gateway anime they watched as a kid.

GBEAST should really do a fullplay of one of these games.

The amount of insane nonsense and their lack of knowledge makes for some amazing content.

Well Goku is actually voiced by a woman in Japanese so people that have watched it in English got a really weird feeling watching that. Saying that you get used to it after a short while and all other characters made up for it. Cell is voiced by the god known as Wakamoto Norio, he can carry that show solely if he wants.

About this dub, Naruto sounds horrible. He sounds like he is hoarse half the time or something. Give the man some water!

The quality of the voice acting and the stills thing they're doing for the story is a bit disappointing. I've always wanted like an action rpg that just runs through the whole story of this anime (minus the filler stuff) because I think that would be pretty great. You'd think with the popularity of this anime they would be able to get the funding for a higher quality game, but I guess I don't know how well these games sell.

After watching this though I would love to watch Vinny, Alex and Austin play through this whole series. This was pretty entertaining.

God I watched the anime and this is so bad to look at. The Japanese VO is so much better and they just jump story plots in this game which makes it comical.

Goddamn. I forgot just how bad the Naruto dub is.

Man, Naruto was great for a long while. Too bad it's last few years was a bunch of people fighting in a crater and flashbacks that are the same exact story as every fucking Naruto flashback. Masashi Kishimoto used to try really hard in the manga and the art was sooooo goood. The anime was always trash though.

How close is this to a new Asura's Wrath sort of thing? That game doesn't need a sequel, but I need something that can approach its majesty.

Is BORT in this game?

(I don't know anything/much about Naruto and have only since up to some time when he was hanging out with the frog man and the only movies I've seen are the bort one and the "last" one. It wasn't nearly as bad as some other anime I've seen. Like Twin Tails.)

Yup, I have no idea why the writers decided to make the main characters so absurdly overpowered. And not even in particularly interesting ways; characters mostly just move faster, have exponentially larger elemental attacks, and learn one of the dozen or so ways to shield all damage and basically cheat death.

Actually both Bort and Salad are pre order bonuses I believe.

As someone who read the manga and watched some of the anime, this dialogue was just plain bad.

I've never in my life seen even a second of a Naruto episode yet I just watched 80 minutes of a Naruto game. Alright then.

@graham_nix: If you really just want Anime fights there's an abridged version of Dragon Ball Z called Dragon Ball Z Kai that may be worth your time.

Anyways I'm always surprised these games don't get brought up in regards to best visuals at the year end awards. Not saying they should win, but they should get a mention, at the very least. Some of the story sequences are damn near anime quality.

That 30 minute episode was actually like 3 seasons long

It always weirds me out a bit when the moves are said in english.

The dub of this anime is actually pretty fantastic. It's just jarring if you're used to listening to the Japanese cast and then you hear the English one. The awkward dialogue in this game, I'll chalk up to poor direction from the Cyber Connect2 and probably the rush at which they had to record this stuff before getting back to the show proper.

Also, it's a bit crazy how Alex continues to act like the story makes no sense, when he obviously hasn't seen the 500-ish episodes of the anime run. These games were never meant to bring new fans in or explain the plot. They're for people who want to experience the cool scenes from the manga and anime for themselves.

As a side note, I think the show is still quite good despite what some of these comments would have you believe. The power increases in the show all happen organically and make sense in context. It didn't go from stealthy ninja dudes to mountain busting attacks over night, and very few of the actual characters in the show wield the fantastic power that is on display in for example that first fight. But like most shonen shows, the longer they go, the more the anime "connoisseurs" want to put it down. It's not in the same league as something like One Piece, but it's still a damn good shonen.

I'm always impressed with these games for their art style and animation.

It's really not. Terribly rewritten inaccurate scripts, terrible acting, awful voices on characters like Kaio and Freeza. It is far worse than your average anime dub. Naruto at least doesn't totally rewrite the show and is lame in the same ways the original was lame.
