I'm guessing these aren't compatible with original NES controllers, so cable extensions already on the market won't work. I might just buy one anyway and splice in my own extension.

In case you didn't know (you probably didn't) there's alot of exact science as to how those bonus items and collectibles in Bubble Bobble work.

This is not for me but I am excited to see this be success as I want to see what other companies do and what this might spawn. I'd like to see a SNES version.

@frytup: I would bet if you waited a bit you'll see knock off adapters for old NES controllers.

@frytup: Nyko has some cord extension up for pre order.

http://nyko.com/collections/nes-classic-edition

@dougfunk15: I think this is mostly intended for casual game players, or people that grew up with an NES and don't play games anymore. Something I'd expect to see at department stores, mall kiosks, or pharmacies.

@rocketblast0063: This way Nintendo can release a NES Classic Edition 2 with 30 more games.

I don't like Zelda 2 or any of the NES Marios for more than 5 minutes. Actually, I don't really like NES games at all. I didn't play games until the sega megadrive though so anything before that holds no appeal.

I can't buy or use this, because I would have to sit on the floor to play it. I cannot believe the controller cables are that short.

@danryckert It's either the giant dog shooting the fire, or as Jeff thought; Airman stage.

The latter is the one I instantly thought of, in particular those giant red square heads with the angry faces.

Nintendo World Championships Dan. It was held in 30 cities in 1990 and Kansas City was one of them.

Even though I already use emulators between my PC and Raspberry Pi for my retro gaming, this looks way cooler than I expected (especially since the video quality is actually good compared to the Wii U NES Virtual Console). Like Dan and Jeff, I can definitely see this appealing to people who probably haven't played video games since they were kids and want to relive their childhood, and maybe even show their kids the games they used to play.

Also, what's wrong with using Luigi in SMB2? He's my go-to character whenever I play any version of it.

"$60 for 30 games people love and probably never play?" So it's really a mini-Steam instead of mini-NES.

It's a damn shame that the controller cables are so short. That might actually be the one thing that doesn't make me want to get one of these.

I know it's cheap. But that is ridiculous. I would have to set on the floor right in front of a giant TV. Come on Nintendo.

...so..1990, convention center, exclusive games....was Dan at a Nintendo World Championships city qually and didnt even remember thats what it was? I can imagine they might have had some early games there for people to play. There was a city Qualifier in Kansas City...

Holy shit the "HDMI" logo on the back looks so bad. I wonder if that's some stipulation of HDMI that is has to have the logo on the device somewhere.

YEAH BOI brutal takedown of FFX. I was in the same place as Dan in grade school, wasn't til I was older that I went back and really loved a lot of turn-based games, not just of the JRP variety.

Gotta love how Daniel immediately proves himself wrong on the Mega Man 2 boss order argument. By defeating Air Man before Metal Man you get the horizontally flying Item-2 which you can use to bypass the jump he dies on AND get the E-Tank underneath.

Yeah I am totally getting one of these.

I don't really care that you can't add more games to it or whatever. I'm a blend of lazy and non-technical. I don't know how emulation works, and I don't want to learn. I want to plug the box into the TV and play Dr. Mario.

This seems cool, but the lack of an ability to add more games is somewhat disappointing. However given the price point it's understandable. It should have Tetris though.

Would buy, but the input lag from both the emulation and a non-CRT TV makes $60 a bit overpriced. Maybe this is why they didn't include Tetris; it would be mostly unplayable at level 19 and above.

The Mario Brothers "PVP" game really got out the worst of me when I was playing it with my brother at my grandparents house when I was young. I had some anger issues back then, and it almost made me punch my brother.

A bunch of games you'd never want to play again cause they suck compared to games we've had since. I just don't see the appeal, leave the past in the past and move on.

Dan's 'why won't they let me directly control the attacks' in JRPGs was how i felt about fighting games for a while.

The technology is there to have multiple characters in a world attacking eachother, why am i stuck in a stage, which is often 1 screen? I think i eventually got over that though, although i'm more interested in watching fighting games than actually playing them.

I own all these games, but a simple way to plug them into my bedroom's TV is enough to sell me on it.

My only concern would be potential input lag. Played some Sonic 2 on someone's TV the other day, and I had to say "I haven't died to that guy in over a decade." Old games need to be tight!

Not picking Toad in SMB2 is insane to me. He was the best. Fastest pickup speed and he didn't lose any speed or jump height when carrying items. That's the way to get the most coins and extra health and the best way to carry items long distance. You only use Princess or Luigi when a shortcut calls for it.
