This game looks tough, I like that Nintendo is doing something more challenging.

You don't see Jeff die that much in Quick Looks, let alone this much. Must be an all-time record.

Oh almighty Drew master of the divine control room, could you please hear the prayers of us humble duders and please lower Brad's mic when he screams like a mad man out of nowhere ? We would appreciate that so much, us headphone users.

Also, this looks like more "New" stuff. I don't think Nintendo understands what the word actually means.

On the question from the beginning, I'm imagining the fans of the cult classic Yoshi's Island (as cult as Nintendo classics get anyway) shouting out "it was a stoooorrrrk!!!"

Just watching him play is kind of bugging me though because it looks like he really sucks at Mario. I mean Luigi. Whatever. Maybe I'm just good at Mario games but it's super hard to watch people play most of the time because they're too hesitant or their timing is way off.

Yeesh... Nintendo, what happened?

Personally, I *hate* the mushy "classic" gameplay physics of the New SMB series. The best physics ever were in Mario World SNES and Mario2 NES aka Mario USA. THOSE two games had fast jumps and sensible gravity. These modern games are soooo frustrating to play. It's terrible.

OK I know this may piss some of you off but, as a man who played every Mario on NES SNES and Gameboy, these new NSMB shit is so far below in quality compared to other stellar platformers like Rayman Origins and Super Meat Boy that I get kinda sad. Quite pathetic how they tried to make "hard" levels by nerfing the player.

But yeah, if you ignore the other, much much better platformers out there, these can seem kinda nice I guess. Though they blew their wad on nostalgia cash-in with the first NSMB as far as I'm concerned.

Wow! Just wow. I normally love your QLs and was looking super forward to watching you do this one since I saw it was posted earlier and I must say it is by far the worst QL I have ever seen. I don't know if you guys hate Nintendo or what but some of the things you complained about were so minor and you made them out to be a huge deal.

Also you were both terrible at playing this and then blamed the game? If there is one thing Nintendo does nearly flawlessly it is gameplay. Yes they have rested on their laurels a little too long for pretty much anyone's liking but their laurels are still great. New Super Mario Bros U is a fantastic title and a must own game for the Wii U and this DLC looks like an amazing addition to it.

Thank god this was only a QL and not a professional review otherwise my critique would be much harsher. I still love you guys and will continue to watch your stuff but I want you to know as a fan who has been watching for a long time that you have severely disappointed me with this crap-fest of a video. It was frustrating to watch due to your poor playing ability and made worse by your unprofessional commentary.

P.S. Nabbit is invincible because he was designed for inexperienced players (you know like if a parent wants to play with their child). Granted Nintendo should have made 5 playable characters just in case 4 experienced players want to play together but that is a pretty minor complaint. And yeah the inability to play MP with the gamepad is ludicrous but neither of those things really mar the overall package imo.

Two things:

- You can unlock Mario-physics after beating NSLU once

I guess that is better than nothing, but doesn't really fix anything - it just means you have to play through the entire game with shit physics once, to "earn" the un-shitty ones.

Nintendo's leadership needs some new blood soon. When is the last time they pioneered a new IP? Pikmin? Am I the only one who is kind of tired of Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda?

These NSMB games, to me, are just symptomatic of a greater problem with Nintendo right now. Kirby gets treated like the red-headed step-child, but his games are the only ones with some real innovation going on.

It's going to be fascinating to see how the Wii U develops, considering that 3rd parties have almost completely abandoned it less than a year into it's life, and sales have dropped in the last 5-6 months to alarmingly low numbers. Nintendo had to downgrade their last revenue projection, and then STILL came in under the new figure. Between that, and the financial clusterfuck of the early 3DS price cut, what is going on?

It's only an issue if you consider Luigi physics "shitty." It's not like that's a universal truth. If that's a thing to complain about then you probably aren't among those playing NSMBU and looking forward to DLC anyway, I'd guess.

I've said this before, but anyone who has played the original SMB games should hate the way all these New SMB games control. Even Mario controls horribly. Yet, the 3D versions of Mario (going back to the original N64) have maintained solid controls. It just confuses me who made the decision to make the controls so loose (and unresponsive), when the original controls were so tight. Needless to say I have given up on these new 2D versions, though will be hard to not play the next 3D Mario game as both Galaxy games were amazing.

Please Nintendo go back to the old controls! Even when they re-released/updated the old SMB games on the GBA the controls were kept in tact. BAH!

Note: I'm not opposed to change, but the change in the controls have hurt the overall way the game plays to the point where I just don't want to play these New SMB games any more... Which makes me quite sad.

I didn't assert it was a universal fact - I was acknowledging that if you hate Luigi's controls, promising the better ones only after you have suffered through the entire game with the bad ones, doesn't really solve the problem.

I think some of you are forgetting that these are essentially the "Treyarch" of Mario games. Spin-off, throwaway party games. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the last "real" Mario game and it was phenomenal.

Brad "Princess Man" Shoemaker.

Maybe they should come up with some new characters already? Like what about their mom Mrs. Mario? Or craaazy Cousin Gino? It's been the same characters for like almost 30 years now.

Over the last two decades I would agree that this statement has been mostly true. However recently I played Rayman: Origins and NSMB back-to-back and quite frankly NSMB's gameplay felt sloppy in comparison.

I personally feel they have been resting on their laurels FAR too long and the gameplay that they have always been famous for is getting as worn out as their mascots.

Maybe I'm out of touch, maybe these games aren't being made for me, but I play a lot of games with my 5 year old and he has no patience for Mario. He says it's boring and it doesn't "feel good". I had been considering buying a WiiU "for my son" but after seeing how little interest he has in Nintendo and it's franchises I don't see it happening.

I suppose expecting something different from a Mario game was asking too much, but I suppose this is great if you haven't already been overloaded with Mario .

Unfortunately for me, I think the last Mario game I was into was on N64. Which is better than my interest for most Nintendo franchises. Maybe they aren't for me anymore, but I just keeping hoping they'll reinvent themselves sometime.

Lol at the Nintendo fanboys flaming the GB crew hard for being tired of playing essentially the same game over and over, which sums up Nintendo these days. You guys need to wake up and open your eyes if you think their criticism was unfair. Their bored of Nintendo's formula, get over it. If you love this game, that's fine, but don't flame GB for saying what most other people are thinking while watching this.

Their complaints were certainly fair, but I've personally had no issues with the controls on any of the NSMB games. They are different from the old games to be sure, but the design of the games is built with the way it controls in mind. It's not that hard to adjust, but you do need to adjust to it.

As for Luigi U specifically, I'm currently at world 8 and have all the star coins in all previous worlds. This game is really tough up-front, but the challenge hits a plateau and levels off pretty early. The real challenge is those flippin' star coins. Some of them are really deviously hidden.

So, I can understand it not being everyone's thing, but I like the meat and potatoes of these games, so the utter repetition of them doesn't bother me all that much.

You're probably right that there are maybe one or two Nintendo fanboys flaming GB for criticizing these games. But most of the comments are people like you flaming Nintendo for this series, which is nothing more than a modernization of a game that came out a quarter of a century ago. And then using these games, games that exist to BE rehashes, as proof that Nintendo is tired and un-inventive.

If there is a problem with a quick look of one of these games, it's that there just isn't a lot to say apart from, "yep, it's more Mario" - which, depending on who you talk to, isn't a bad thing.

I frankly enjoyed New Super Luigi U more than the original campaign because it did something new for the first time in the series so far. It changed up the mechanics, level design, and all that to make me play it quite differently than the original campaign, though it would've been great to also see the visual style and soundtrack change. It should've had something more of a punk vibe to the hole thing that started for me upon seeing how the logo is the NSMBU logo with stuff scratched out like this was some sort of mod.

Luigi doesn't control like Mario and the levels aren't designed to be played with Mario physics. These are speedrun levels. The best levels feel like Dustforce; Just a perfect flow of jumps, twists, walljumps, slides, and the flagpole.

People wouldn't complain so much about how Luigi handles if they stopped trying to play him like Mario. He's a runaway train! Don't STOP and fuss around like an idiot. You have 100 seconds and a few acres to cross. Just fucking GO GO GO.
