Quick Look: Ninja Gaiden 3 - Preview

Wow, this is NOT the Ninja Gaiden I was expecting. 
 
Didn't Team Ninja also say in a press statement that they won't do dismemberment in their enemy models because "everyone's already seen it"?

Hmm. I would need to try a demo before actually buying this I think, seeing how it seems more reliant on QT events. And if Jeff doesn't think it feels like the first two games... it's not the story I played the first for, it was the tough-as-nails combo-heavy combat.

The disconnect I have with these kind of games, and even Star Wars games when you use a lightsaber, where the fuck is the dismemberment that would occur with almost all of these attacks?

I don't know how I feel about this. The pretty drastic departure from what made the other Ninja Gaiden games stand out seems sort of crappy. The totally ridiculous shit that goes on in the game seems entertaining though.

You should play Ninja Gaiden 2.

The fighting in this looks about as clunky as it was in Afro Samurai, yet the crazy ninja bullshit and graphic violence that you want don't look nearly as satisfying (robot bear, slow motion cutting dudes into pieces > British spider tank and stabbing). And Afro Samurai came out three years ago.

I can't watch any Ninja Gaiden without thinking "I would rather play Devil May Cry".

@CptBedlam: The QTE's don't bother me. Really the only thing that makes me audibly groan when i look at this game is the inclusion of competitive multiplayer. They should have kept the coop mode from Sigma 2 that was kind of fun.. the multiplayer in this thing looks BAD however. It could be bad but I'm going to at least give Hayashi the benefit of the doubt this time and buy it.

You probably would have liked Jedi Knight 2, it had a dismemberment cheat and made light saber combat totally brutal.

Although I agree that NG is better and more *fun* on higher difficulties, but when I first played NG, NG:Black, and NG2 it was on normal and I had a hell lot of fun, and most importantly the game combat was challenging and fun.

That was the best thing about NG and NG: Black, the difficulty really rolled over, the end of the game on normal was about the same degree of challenge as the beginning of the game on hard. That was the best part about the design.

Also NG: Black is a fucking fantastic game and probably in my top 3 games of all times so kodus to you.

Go play NG2 ,even with its problems, its fucking fantastic just slicing limbs and heads off. I know that gore really doesnt add much to gameplay but I think that system in NG2 made the game so much more enjoyable and I am so sad to see that NG3 doesnt even have that element

Hoping NG3 turns out good, cause fuck right not looks very meh.

NG3 will probably be one of the worst NG games for the most fans except newcomers,but I'm sure that there will be more games in this franchise.They basically have confirmed NG3 Sigma edition few months after official release.

It would be bold enough for Tecmo Koei to reboot it like Capcom did with DmC which has been confirmed then reconfirmed as parallel universe...

If your calling this combat deep then you sure as hell never played any of the previous Ninja Gaiden games. This look more like Ninja Blade except with less QTEs.

that woman in the com link really wanted to have the main characters babies after he cuts off the giant robots leg.... and i guess that would be accurate to real life right? what woman wouldnt fall for a guy who can cut thru robot legs

Except Ninja Blade does it way better. That game was dumb, but the QTEs were absolutely insane. This game looks incredibly boring in comparison.

Wow, lot's of negativity in the comments. As someone who completed the first NG and really liked it, but couldn't get into NG2, I think this actually looks interesting. I don't really play these games for the challenge, I just want to be a badass ninja slicing up dudes and working my way through a ridiculous story. This looks like it has both.

This QL had so many golden moments...notably the Parents Just Don't Understand moment lol. Anywho, 2 things bothered me watchinig this....

1. Is Ryu gonna bang this chick? I mean there was Rachel from 1, Sonia from 2, and now this chick. All 3 seem more than willing to drop them panties at a moments notice and Ryu does nothing. Nothing. The fuck man? Either he gets so much ninja ass back at the ninja crib that none of these girls mean a damn or he's gay. Nothing wrong with being gay of course, but it would just explain everything.

2. The fuck was Ryu doing in that jeep? This is the same motherfucker who spends his time jumping off exploding blimps, gliding from one skyscraper to another, destroying national monuments, and killing Satan. However, when he has to go somewhere in the desert, he takes a jeep? And on top of that, his kouhai, underling, pupil, whateverthefuck SHOWS UP IN A WHIRLWIND MADE OF FUCKING SAND to deliver a sword then leaves THE SAME WAY SHE SHOWED UP. And you're telling me this asshole needs to take a jeep?

Seriously though, the fact he has not fucked any one of those girls is really bothering me. He doesn't even hint that he's interested or that he notices either. Like...seriously, man

those are some god awful english accents. nobody talks like that.

jeff and ryan showed very little understanding of this games combat mechanics. let alone any attempt to replicate ninja gaidens 1 & 2's mechanics. for example, I didnt see a single attempt at a flying swallow. jeff didnt even realise what he was doing when he was charging up the heavy attack.

However i have heard from other gaiden fans (arthur giese) that the combat mechanics are very different in this game and a little crappy. so i cant blame jeff really.

Also, this game seriously shoulda used motion capture. Animation is just kak.

anyways, i wont be buying this.

@PJ: Again, as I said in previous posts in this thread he was playing on normal. They made normal REALLY easy in this game. When you don't have enemies doing shit to you of couse its going to come off as being button mashy.

I like how Ayane appeared out of the fucking nowhere.

That was great, it totally sold me on the game.

It looks alright, but I don't see what's so difficult about Team Ninja just pulling the camera back and up a bit so they could get rid of these apparent, awful camera movements.

so why is there no flying swallow? for me NG still has the best combat system in a game, with bayonetta being second... ill be sad if they ruin it here... as for difficulty as long as Very Hard and Master remain as or harder then the previous editions im ok with normal being at level "regular" people can help... Maybe Devils Third is now going to fill this "void" for me

Yeah, everyone says that but I don't like it. I think the levels are always too dark, it takes itself too serious, I don't feel as much hard impact from it, and I think the enemies and bosses in DMC have more fun attacks and behavoirs and reactions n stuff. but yknow- I'm not gonna convince anyone, I'm just sayin I don't get Ninja Gaiden.

I agree, not a fan of NG anything (beyond the NES versions anyway), Devil May Cry, especially the 3rd one, is my 3rd person action game of choice.

I feel like I've heard that lady's voice a million times before, but I don't know where.

NINJA IN THE DESERT!

I haven't played Ninja Gaiden since the first Xbox game in 2004. While I adored playing through that game, I skipped 2 and skipped the DS game. This game wasn't even on my radar, but after watching this, this seems like a lot of fun. There are a lot of haters in the comments here, but this quick look completely sold me.

Really had to fight the urge to shout "SPACE MARINES!" During the section in London.
