Quick Look: Overwatch

It was really great to watch you guys enjoy the hell out of Overwatch, it's a really fucking cool game.

You should try Junkrat, he's the dude with the exploding tire! He also has a trap which roots, a mine that he can detonate to do send enemies flying and/or kill them dead and a grenade launcher that's great to spam. You can use his mine to propel yourself through the air too, it's really fun.

Looks like fun but it's one the few games I can't watch for long periods of time without feeling sick.

You know it going to be a great steam when the first 30 min is just them waiting.

Only about 15-20 minutes of server woes Blizzards come a long way.

Really hate this weeks special mode though. Every Arcade match I've seen has been the most boring thing ever.

Make the hero shuffle mode permanent!

This beta was fantastic and within two games of it bought the game, its all about styyylllleeeee.

Man I wish I could play this. Being poor sucks. College: just say no.

Wanted to watch this earlier, but was busy. Spinning my wheels on a Doom challenge.

This gives me the chance of seeing a game that I probably will never play but I am interested.

Sitting here debating buying this game tonight. I don't even usually like this type of game.

@drewbert To answer your loading question. It can be a little different depending on the application but the reason why it isn't just a straight linear path is basically because its more work that no one really about. There have been exceptions I have seen though.

So the reason why the loading might jump 50% then slow its way to 60% then jump again, etc is actually based on the actual size of the files being loaded. When you see a big jump, it probably means a big file just got done loading. When you see the load bar start to crawl, it means there are a LOT of really small files currently being loaded. You might already know this part, but hard drives in general are much quicker at loaded the big single files and much slower the small files in mass quantity.

It's cool that they opened the beta back up for those of us who purchased the game, but when is the full thing coming?
(I kid, obviously, but it's still weird.)

Overwatch is, like, the best game ever except for Doom and Uncharted 4, which are also the best games ever. What a year month for best games ever!

Because I've missed most of the beta streams, I wonder what my threshold of watching this game on stream will be. Seems entertaining, but I wonder if it's got that longevity like other competitive shooters.

I used to like the older FPS shooter mp, but I just dont care for it anymore. I tried VERY LITTLE of the demo, but did not like it at all. Take that for what you will. If you like TF, prob your thing?

Why is the PC gameplay so much more washed-out than the PS4 version?

@themasterds: Agreed, the mine jump made me play almost exclusively as junkrat in the beta, so much fun! Its a great variation on the traditional rocketjump.

This game has love written all over it. I was skeptical because I am one of those original Quake world team fortress clan member elitists who just can't enjoy a classic shooter because "oh my god doo you remember how good 2fort4 was and defending the base for 8 hours on the same server straight? Switching to a sniper when a sniper was needed. I truly believe Quake/Unreal Tournament era was the peak of online gaming and died around Quake 3 team arena but the legend lives on with Rocket Arena etc, oh anyways back to Overwatch...

Anyhow, nothing has given me the feeling of joy in an FPS as much as Overwatch has in years and years. I am a very jaded gamer and although I continue to buy and play most FPS Games I do not get the same enjoyment out of them that I used to. Every minute I play Overwatch is FUN It never feels like a painful slog or grind or obnoxious BS that happens from other players. There are only so many moves each other can do and for each they have counters, and counters to those counters. It is a wonderfully balanced, beautiful, fast paced, satisfying game that I can't recommend more to anyone.

The funny thing is I Thought this was going live at midnight but watched the Overwatch Serverwatch event earlier and even logged in, muted my game, and continued to watch Jeff and Dan play on my tablet.

Overwatch owns. My tip to a lot of people is to go into the options and turn on the "kill feed" setting or whatever, so you can see who is dead and what killed them. If all of a sudden your team runs into a room and you see 5 icons in the top right that show Bastion killing them with his ultimate, maybe you should wait a second since no one communicates to tell you when that shit is happening.

My second tip is if you are getting annoyed or just want to learn a character play Medium AI. If you want to learn that most people are bad at this game play Hard AI.

Suppose I should take a break from Overwatch to watch Overwatch.

Honestly it really seems like they just didn't turn the servers on when they said they would. When everything started working it was definitely a "it now works perfectly for every one, everywhere immediately" type of moment.

Wasn't the usual downtime trickle where a couple people manage to sneak in here and there.

Overwatch is a pretty cool game you guys.

That's good. I wonder what's up with their PC though. At first I thought it was some colour-blind settings being on (because I hear Overwatch has some really great colour-blind options along with intensity) but then Jeff said he had left it on default. Weird. I wonder if they look the same to them in the studio.

They just booted the game up and started playing. When i played the beta, the graphical settings were lower than my PC could handle. Might be the same for their PC.

Glad this is up so quick, I had to have a family and be a personable human being with a life and stuff. I've gone from 0 to 100 on this game real recently largely on the back of Jeff's surprising turn around.

Whoops, I think I was wrong about Genji's dash ability. Only refreshes if he kills someone with the dash.

Man, the blind box RMT really bummed me out. Trying not to think about it too much but there is literally a SHOP button every single time I open a loot box and it feels.. crass.

Everything else about the game is amazing though. Hopefully there's a mod or something that'll let me.. hide that.

I fell into that 60 dollar trap Jeff was talking about and I wasn't really happy about it when I found out about the real price. But hey, at least the extra stuff that came with it looks cool.

Something you might not know is that there are convenience options for each hero in the game's settings. For instance you can set up Lucio's crossfader so it works sorta like a sprint, where you hold down the button to go fast and release it to switch to the healing track.

A week ago I was blissfully unaware of this game.

Now my poor wallet is crying in the corner.

I did better with junkrat, which is telling as my main was demo in tf2. Still not good by any means, but better...

I feel like I'm the only person in the world that thinks this game looks super boring. Is it something that's just boring to watch and you really need to actually play (I didn't do the beta), or do I just not like team-based shooters anymore? Not being snarky, I just don't get why everyone's so excited. Feel like I'm missing something.

My guess would be the usual Blizzard touch. I had little to no interest towards MMOs before WoW and then that became an addiction a thing for me for a long time. Hearthstone did not grab me quite the same, but I still played it randomly for a few weeks and I had zero interest for card games before that.

I've been plenty interested in Overwatch but then I just skipped the whole beta for whatever reason. If and when they'll do a free weekend, I'll definitely be there. Shame they didn't give any trial passes with the game, since that has been a thing for Blizzard for a good while.

Can almost guarantee that they allowed a certain amount of connections and up that limited over time. Blizzard seems to do that these days, usually they show a queue instead but I guess you don't want to see that for a game like this.
