Quick Look: Pyre

First several hours are definitely somewhat slow with heavy text and easy Rites, but they definitely get more challenging later on. Really loving this game and even when I found Rites somewhat easy in the first 4-5 hours, I almost welcomed this because since there is no loss state in the game, being unable to re-try a loss meant each loss means that much more to me.

Rofl. I thought the exact same thing as far as "Logan", momentarily, till I realized what they were talking about.

Game looks super interesting and unique but idk if it's something I'd really get into, or at least fall in love with like Bastion.

I'd watch them play the multiplayer again, maybe on UPF if the West team likes the game as well.

This game is rad guys.

Sentient just means able to feel and percieve things.

The universe has a very Saga-ish vibe to me. Not as crazy as Saga, but Saga doesn't have spiritual basketball.

Excellent game so far, 6 hours in. I quite enjoy the world-building, story and characters. I never doubted that though. The rite-gameplay, however, seemed more questionable since I never really got into sports games of any kind. But it's a lot of fun due to the awesome variety of characters and their vastly different playstyles.

After the QL I think I like everything about this game except for the part where you play it, which is kind of similar to how I felt about Transistor.

I've felt the same way about this game as the Giant Bomb team (somewhat jokingly) did about Firewatch, just not understanding at all what it is. The Steam page says it's a "party RPG" but everyone writing about it is calling it a sports game. I hope this video will help!

I don't know if I'll put away some time to play this myself, but I'm definitely going to pick up the soundtrack. Transistor's soundtrack has been on constant rotation for me since release despite only playing a little of the game (not even enough to decide whether I liked it or not - I jsut got torn away and haven't got back to it in my backlog). I adore Supergiant's music.

I've waited a long time for this quick look to really understand what this was. It doesn't seem like my type of game, but there's something alluring about. I hope to check it out eventually. Thanks guys!

I just finished this and I can confidently say this is one of my favorite videogames to come out in a long time. It really reminds me why I love videogames.

If you love orb sports and having good feelings, please give this game a try. It's absolutely fantastic.

Fun fact; the announcer in this is ALSO performed by Logan Cunningham, the narrator in Bastion and the sword in Transistor. Bet you didn't recognize him, huh?

I like how this looks and sounds but I have absolutely no interest in playing it I'm afraid. I respect everything Supergiant has created but none of their games have really grabbed me. I enjoyed Bastion but I thought it was just "fine" rather than amazing.

It's really bothering me that the characters have the exact same art in all their representations outside the Pyre-ball thing-- seems very budget. I dunno what to think of this game. I didn't dig Transistor either. I think I'll pass for now.

Such a weird game, but I'm digging it. I do worry the actual gameplay is a little thin but the world and art style is breathtaking.

Love the actual announcer though, he's amazing.

Fuckin' Pyre is so good you guys - once you get into the swing of things it's really something special. I'm sad to see so many people who seemed turned off by it in the comments, because it's very weird, but it is the best fantasy sports game I think I've ever played, and once you really get a hang of it you feel like a god. And that's setting aside all of the amazing art, music, and storytelling.

Also maybe I just missed it because I wasn't paying attention before it came out but I never heard that this game was Valkyrie Profile. It's totally Valkyrie Profile.

@ravelle: He's very fast, and that's good, and I liked his character. But his abilities were kind of boring so I made sure to send his ass back to the commonwealth first

@homelessbird: I actually relly learned to enjoy aura slash with a little practice. His combination of blinding speed and potential for aggressive play is super fun. Well, that, and his attitude is fantastic!

The gameplay doesn't grab me. The same was with Transitor. I enjoy the art, worlds, music of their games but only Bastion was in my wheelhouse gameplay wise.

The noises Ron makes while you are shopping is the best thing ever. I just start laughing every damn time .

I hope they make a turn based strategy game with these characters.

Finished this last night. Amazing game.

Game looks nice and I want to know more about the world and characters (not surprising from Supergiant Games) but I do wish there was a demo so I could get a feel for the gameplay.

I was intrigued from the discussions on the Bombcast and Beastcast, but after seeing it in motion... back to being not sure. I just don't know if that gameplay would keep me hooked for the whole time. I wouldn't want to try it for something not cheap.

I obviously haven't played the game myself, so maybe I'm wrong, but Vinny could have won that easily if he didn't constantly spend all his stamina sprinting from his half of the arena. He was basically just sprinting straight into Alex's auras since he would be out of stamina.

I miss demo's. The XBLA trial thing was such a great feature back in the day. But Demo's in general are so rare nowadays, not sure why that happened.

I love the style of this, it's kind of like a more cartoony Morrowind BUT... I am just not interested in mystical basketball.

This game is far better than it looks like. You get very invested in the characters, even the ones you first think they're a joke, and there's great world building - it's just not hamfisted at you but given at small doses.

I always end up feeling bad for Supergiant Games. They do such original pieces of art, and I get the feeling that a lot of people disregard them as niche games.

Finally played this, its incredible. I didn't even see my name for *ae show up here (Fae/Bae). I did see the same weird performance dips in the final battle as Alex mentioned, on PS4 pro, but that's it for any complaints, fantastic game overall. Hot tip - its *never* explained unless you get pretty into the book, but if you stand next to your team your aura (presence) grows. I managed to play through 95% of the game before I figured that out.
