For Dan, A scone is like a biscuit but its shaped like a triangle and its got a harder crunchier crust.

It's cool to see a ZX Spectrum styled game. There's a lot of NES styled games but not a lot of 80s computer styled games.

I continue to hold out hope that quests are coming back. I joined the site a couple of months before they went away.

I wonder how Dan would feel about cheese after reading this (from Wikipedia): "Natural calf rennet is extracted from the inner mucosa of the fourth stomach chamber (the abomasum) of slaughtered young, unweaned calves." (Rennet is added to milk to make many types of cheese).

Actually, now I'm not sure how I feel about cheese.

My inner 5 year old went crazy seeing this. Oh, I loved my Speccy.

I think US folk refer to scones as biscuits, for some reason.

@mashzapotato: shaped like a triangle? I've never seen a triangle shaped scone, they're always circular.

Also @jeff it's the Zed X spectrum.

This is how you make accurate retro-pixel graphics and I hope others who want to pull it off study their desired system limits and behaviours as deeply as the developers of this did. This is the best. (and it's always okay to ignore spritecount limits in favour of providing an experience without slowdown and flickering)

And it's also another great and strong female character in games that will go ignored.

Then you've been having english scones. American scones are shaped differently (the ones in the game are circular and therefore english.)

damn now I want a scone with jam and a cup of tea. It being the UK around me that is not too hard to do. Also I don't remember any timer countdowns on the ZX Spectrum but it was a long time ago. That was an accurate loading screen though apart from the turbo load and timer I mean.

So Dan's heard of the C64 and Rorschach tests. That's something, at least. I was beginning to suspect that he was raised in a monastery with no contact with the outside world (save an N64).

That's the traditional way of making cheese. A lot of cheese production these days uses gene modified microbes to produce rennet - though traditional cheeses still use rennet extracted from calves.

Now I'm all about cool 2d graphics games from snes era and stuff, that is something will never get old , but this stuff just looks like total garbage... why would anyone go out of their way to emulate this type of looks, and moreover why would anyone pay money for this thing...

Because people have nostalgia for this and were alive back then. Believe it or not. I enjoy the look of 3D PS1 games, timeless to me. I imagine Jeff feels the same way about this stuff.

This looks very much like a real old game, but I think that makes me completely turned off to it. Just looks super boring. And scones are delicious.

This game looks pretty cool. You can find the free version here. It even has xbox 360 controller support! If you're using a DS4 controller, remember to uncheck the "hide DS4 controller" option. The game also has support for saves.

The intro section in the giant bullet is different from the one from the quick look which is interesting.

The loading screen made me very very happy, I have a lot of love for the old Speccy. Also don't confused Scone for Scone, very different things! (One rhymes with 'cone' the other with 'con')

I don't understand why you would make a game like this in 2014, it just looks bad and not fun. Maybe if you were programming something that works on the actual old hardware that would be novel but I still wouldn't be interested.

Do we need a "Time till Wrestling" ala "Time to pull a Brad" for these? It was 29 seconds before wrestling was mentioned.

@straightgrizzly: I wholeheartedly agree! This track is amazing!

http://electric-cafe.bandcamp.com/album/rock-boshers-dx

@Slay3r1583: I'm 25 years old and wasn't raised on these games and have no interest in them either, but I like to imagine that this might do for others what it doesn't do for me. Thus it's worthy of it's place. Be it for nostalgia, that it executes in its genre or simply because it has an incredible soundtrack (see link above).

Oh man that loading screen is fantastic, never had a spectrum but my C64 with tape loader is still in working condition.

Too bad Dan is too young/ignorant of this era, it would probably been more interesting if Jeff had someone to bounce off of rather than Dan contiually derailing the conversation because he has no connection to this era of games, his C64 story was good though.
