Quick Look: Sunset Overdrive

We gettin Ducktales money.

I'd play this if it came to PC. Looks like a nice Xbox One title though.

This looks fun. I wish I could play it on my fancy new PC. Hopefully it is just a timed exclusive.

Don't mix red bull with alcohol it will kill you, at least some have died of it.

While I was looking forward to this game I wasn't expecting it to be quite as enjoyable as it is when I finally got to sit down and actually play it. It's a blast.

This game really does look pretty amazing. Can't quite justify picking up a One just for this though.

For those of us who play consoles on monitors and HDTVs with quality panels:
The developers have acknowledge the black crush problem and are working on a patch. It happens because of Microsoft encouraged colour standards like that. The game suddenly gets a lot more attractive for the day I can squeeze the machine into my budget.

Definitely seems more interesting than I ever thought. That splat hitting the ground on fast travel sounds pretty good.

Also this made me want to re-watch Idiocracy again.

Well this definitely paints the game as much better than I was expecting, though I can't help but think of how much better it'd be if the protagonist played his role completely straight-faced in contrast to everything else in the game. That's just me though.

This game seems aggressively and gleefully stupid.. kinda into it.

You're not allowed to call someone 'judgmental' while you're being judgmental yourself.

I thought that way when I was watching videos as well, but now that I've played it, I think they got the speed right. You don't want it too fast, or else it'll be impossible to target anything. As slow as it looks, things can still get really chaotic.

But yeah, if you just want to get from point A to point B, there is a speed boost button for the grinds. You press RB to increase your grind speed. It's not a massive boost, but it does the job.

Am i the only one that really has a problem with the sound when you are grinding on something metal/ electric? That sound is just really irritating to me for some reason. It sounds close to scratching ice or something like it.

I think there's a difference between fun and nonsense. I was speaking mostly to the story and aesthetic of Sunset Overdrive than the gameplay. It's totally possible to tell a humorous story and still be saying something with that story. Comedians do this all the time, as do certain games like Ratchet and Clank. The Sunset Overdrive and Bayonetta idea of humor always came off to me as "we're going to do some random craziness because that's exciting and other games aren't doing it." They're like the class clown of video games.

So while I think a game can be fun to play, random bombast is a problem to me and it represent a lack of talent on the part of the writers. Also, I don't think either game is fun to play but that's almost entirely because of my taste in games.

@larrydavis: That comment made me rofl. Not being sarcastic, I thought it was really funny. If I did in fact cause Fuse then I apologize. But if Fuse would have been a game that played well, sure, it could have been good. Lame style can still make a fun game. Chess is pretty great.
