This is a pretty decent game. I'm enjoying myself so far, at least. Definitely the best game from Activision since they've gotten the license, that's for sure (although that's not saying a lot really).

Gross.

All I want out of Turtles these days is an R-rated well written movie with a lot of gratuitous nudity and gore.

I don't see what the problem is: Platinum put out great stuff when they're doing their own thing; they only seem to be making bland stuff when they're (probably) just hired guns on a tie-in franchise game. And even then the Transformers game was good for what it was.

I'd be worried if an original Platinum IP sucked. Then I think we could start pondering the state of the company. But as it stands, if they're making these potboiler not-really-all-that-offensive titles to make sure they can keep the coffers topped up for their own shit, I'm fine.

That said, I was kiiinda hoping this would have been a nice surprise. But nope. Now gimme Vanquish 2 already.

The game is locked to 30 FPS.

They originally wanted to get 60 FPS, and even said in an interview that they couldn't put in local co-op because it wouldn't be a stable 60 FPS.

So we get neither.

Pretty sad about this one. Oh well, at least the art is consistant with the current comics run. The comics are pretty rad and as Jason said, the Nick Cartoon is pretty good too.

I'm glad to see from the comments that I'm not the only person upset by the Automatic Teller Machine Machines thing.

Platinum's licensed mercenary work is starting to bum me out. Transformers was alright, but Korra was sort of terrible and this doesn't look any better. Hopefully Scalebound and Nier Automata are good...

Hmm...I am looking at the same quick look as everyone else but it looks fine to me, and I don't even care about TMNT much (maybe that's the reason?). It's not meant to be a masterpiece. It's a mash some buttons game, with pretty lighting and appropriate pricing (€30 here). As long as it can be played co-op with a friend (I understand it can..?)

Why the hell can't anyone seem to make a TMNT game that isn't bad or at best mediocre? It's such a good franchise.

@unastrike You should totally read the IDW's run of the comic. It's really fun, has some nice character development and gets quiet dark at times. (It's better than the new TV series frankly.)

@levio: I have seen three videos of this now, all of them look the same... It seems a lot like the vaguely actiony combat you get in newer MMOs.

It seems like Platinum has it together on a technical level, but they need to improve their writing and design.

This looked super boring compared to the Transformers game they did before this. Am a big TMNT fan since the original show and loved the Michael Bay movie so this was kinda underwhelming.

I doubt anyone gives a shit, but I'm pretty sure the "dancing" before the first fight was a homage to Bruce Lee and his unconventional fighting stance.

Though I could be totally wrong and he was just dancing right before a fight because, you know, video games.

Jason and Jeff are such a good team for Quick Looks. Very scientific which I always appreciate. Bummer that this game turned out so disappointing looking. Thought this game had potential to be decent but I guess I'll pass on this. Jason is absolutely correct about the new Nick cartoon. It's legitimately great at redefining that continuity in some pretty exciting ways. It certainly is a merchandising machine for kids but they're putting that money to good use in the actual production. There have been some incredible voice cameos. I think Jeff has made up his mind on cartoons, that they are apparently for jerks but the good ones are gooooood dude. Thanks for this video and this website.

This is going to sound like pure conspiracy on my part, but does anyone else think developers remove local play from games just to try and get more sales on titles like this?

Sure, I can understand the split screen angle to a degree considering the framerate and such, but every time I see a "same screen" multi-player game like this that doesn't have local play, I just immediately assume the developers want their customers to get it and then rope their friends into buying copies too.

As someone whose a gigantic fan of the current IDW comics, especially the art style; and being someone who was starved to see said art style referenced ANYWHERE in the Turtleverse -- I was actually really, really looking forward to this game.

...I feel a little swindled.

This looks disapointingly average. The cutscenes are pretty fun at least and the art style is nice, but nothing about the way it looks in motion is appealing. Why not mix up some of the traversal mechanics into the combat? Why not have the open world be more than an oversized arena? It just seems so crazy that they focused all of their energy into basic hack'n'slash combat.

They should start making these beat em ups in two modes. Kids mode for 5-6 year olds who can hit one button and move around to win, then another for teens/adults that cut out the padding and make it shorter but challenging. I bet the developer had to tweak the game based on kids focus groups and pressure to pad it out.
