This looks like a fun PS2 Fighting Game :P

Capcom should be ashamed. Yeah, KOF14 has graphics that aren't that great. Many people tease that they are PS2 graphics. Whatever. The point is: It's a full functional game. It has a large cast of characters. It has solid gameplay. It even has better backgrounds than the ones in SFV. And it has good single player modes out the box. SNK doesn't have as much money as Capcom, even though Capcom is supposedly going through some money troubles. But money problems didn't stop SNK from making a quality sequel in the KOF franchise. Capcom charged 60 bucks for an unfinished game. And they are now paying for it with poor sales, no matter what they try to do to fix it. If KOF14 takes off along with Injustice 2, SFV will be pretty much dead, except for the tournament scene, and even that is having problems. But that's another post.

I know "graphics don't matter," but I can't get over how this game looks. People talk shit about SFV Ken, but half the mofos here look just as bad. Other than that though, yeah, the game seems pretty freaking great.

If there's one thing you can always count on in life, it's that the infamous Mai jiggle will always be on point.

@av_gamer: Capcom charged $60 for the base game, if you want the full experience, you have to pay for the season pass and even then you still don't get all of the content that's in the game (which there isn't even that much of).

I'm disappointed that KoF went 3D with such a bland art style but I still really want to play it but it's not coming the the PC so I won't get the chance.

@av_gamer: I think you'd be better served using GGXrd or possibly the upcoming Tekken 7 as a positive example in that argument.

I wouldn't underestimate the importance of looks in video games (and video games like this especially).

The graphics have improved SO MUCH since the reveal trailer, Im actually happily surprised by how good it looks, expected way worse.

Not only did they charge $60 for it, it's still plagued with netcode problems that were found during the second beta phase, which Capcom STILL haven't even acknowledged exists. (wild rollback, one sided lag)

I'm done with it. I wish SFIV was the game everyone still played, so much more fun to watch the tournaments of that game.

I love how informative Jason and Jeff are in these fighting QLs, but am I wrong for not being able to watch it due to Jason's extra loud and super annoying ARCADE STICK? I get it's the superior way to play a fighting game, but for the sake of our ears and our patience can this be fixed by either better directional microphones for these segments or just ask Jason to please use a normal controller. Sorry for this rant, I love yall and can't wait for the next episode of Ranking of Fighters!!

Other than Kyo, this looks a massive improvement to the reveal trailer which deserved the negative reactions. Looks great and hopefully does well.

I really hope you guys do a feature called "The Ranking of Fighters of The King of Fighters XIV". In which you use fighting science to rank each character.

Angel has always had those moves and I've always been bad at chaining them together.

Good on SNK on making a solid game after all these years from leaving it. I'm don't play Fighting games all the game but watching this KOF is fun.

I cannot pull myself away from SFV otherwise I'd probably give this a go. Well honestly, I'd probably give Revelator a go first since I actually bought it, but I can never bring myself to commit to playing it cause of SFV. I feel like even with the differences in gameplay style that I'd be suffering from bleed over.

Tekken 7 though, I think is disparate enough to not bleed into this. It's so far away though.

NO YAMAZAKI, NO SALE! There are so many returning characters I would cut before I cut my favorite fighting game character of all time, and they never even did an orochi version of the dude. I do kind of love that they got Tizoc Dinosaur in this game.

But seriously feature wise this game looks a lot better than I thought it would. That art style still looks really bad. At least the frame rate looks good. I totally relate to Jeff's dislike of Andy. Dude looks like a dork when he's an American dude trying to be a ninja ass ninja. I always find it strange that new KoF games come out at full price. I like this series but the mode select is literally the exact same modes every year and the netcode for the online in these games is notoriously garbage. I doubt the story mode is going to win any awards either. Thanks to the resident fighting game scientists for this Quick Look.

@av_gamer:I wish I could say the same but I get the feeling most people will STILL play SFV regardless of what is out in the foreseeing future. Despite SFV's mishaps and the many times it shot itself in the foot, the game is still going strong. I remember there was a time that people thought SFIV(Prior to Ultra) was going to die out after all the editions it got and the competition that got released over the years but that game was and still is being played today.

On topic, can't wait to pick this up in a couple of days. Hopefully PSN is nice enough to let you still grab the preorder stuff even after a day of release. I got pretty lucky with Bloodborne so i'm hoping that I can go 2 for 2 here.

Also Andy is not so bad. I think y'all hatin because of his silly corkscrew kick, but it's effective.

Is it weird that I REALLY like the "slow-motion" gameplay that seems to be a sympton of SNK's notoriously slipshod netcode?

The characters move at more realistic speeds rather than hyper-active cracked-out rodents, and I feel like, once you get used to the timing, that the players would actually be able to see and react to their opponent's actions rather than just banging out button combos and hoping that the other player doesn't bang out THEIR combos faster.

Looks dope. I'm not into the fighting game scene but still looks fun to play. Also still liking these graphics over the dirty clay look of SFV.

Well also playing lot of different fighting games mean that you wont have as much time to become as good as you would want to be in it. So keep on playing SFV.

Well Yamazaki was too bad ass / crazy that orochi didn't affect him. He just shrugged it off. I other hand like Andy a lot, but I can't stand Mai at all.

For me, SFV has this weird uncanny valley look to the characters that kinda makes me uncomfortable at times. It's like if you saw a real life person with comic book muscles and proportions.

Mai always looks like she's having a real back problem because of her heavy breasts.

Although I've never been a KoF guy, aside from enjoying that side of the roster in CvS2, I've always kind of admired it from afar. This game looks rough as hell. Presumably, they wanted it to play and feel like the sprite-based games, but maybe didn't quite pull off the transition to 3D models as elegantly as Guilty Gear did. Also has this bland, kind of sterile feel to the presentation. Whatever. I'm sure that KoF fans will love it. Plus, there seems to be a lot of content in there.

slgihtly tempted to play this dumb game, but i got a lot more Killer Instinct and SFV to play.

This game looks really cool! I bought a fighting stick and SFV when that first came out and started teaching myself how to play fighting games. Unfortunately some personal issues got in the way in March and I haven't touched it since. I preordered the collector's edition of KOFXIV and I'm hoping it can help get me back on track with my fighting game learning journey.

All of the animations in this game are soooooo stiff. Like, none of the hits look like they have any energy to them. I'm sure it plays fine and that's what matters but still man.

Something about it looking like a ps2 game is actually appealing to me.

That dinosaur was extremely impressive. Wish someone would making a fighting game like bloody roar but with all dinosaurs and unique moves that use what the features of the dinosaur you're playing. Some could use their long tails, spikes, shells, claws etc. Now that's game of the year 2017.
