I am so glad someone got the Neuromancer reference.

Is that actually something about an AI or did they just call it "Wintermute" because they thought it sounded cool? I haven't finished watching the Quick Look so if they mention it, forgive me.

EDIT: I am OK with throwing a stone to kill a rabbit but I am not OK with having to pick it up and snap its neck. That's a little much.

EDIT 2: This doesn't quite look like it's for me. It looks pretty cool and really well put-together, but there's a lot of meter management next to a fire. I feel like I could get the elements that I'd enjoy in this out of Breath of the Wild and/or Minecraft (I never seem to tire of the latter).

I'm surprised Vinny wasn't the one to check this out. He seemed very interested about it on the unfinished.

You should see the animation for letting go of the rabbit. Makes it even harder to kill them next time.

What's wrong with snapping a (virtual) rabbits neck? These guys eat meat right? That's just hypocritical.

I remember watching @dannyodwyer play this a couple years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Canadian government helped pay for this via a grant? Interesting!

Picked this up way back when it first released on steam and put in about 7 or 8 hours sometime after(I think there was maybe 3 maps in it around the time). Nice to see it finally release, haven't played it with each update but the devs were good about updating it and announcing their plans along the way.

This is one of the few survival games i've really enjoyed, it being one of the few that is purely about survival and not hitting trees with a rock for hours on end/zombies.

As a resident of the Northeast US, this game perfectly captures the starkness of hiking through the snow in Winter, the way the sky roars with a cold silence and this game makes me feel the cold. (While playing in August.) I really like it, I find the mechanics maybe a bit frustrating at times but these people made a cool thing. No pun intended.

Yes, they are mentioned at the start of the game as supporters. Kind of a weird look for Canada though. Come to Canada where you can freeze your ass off and be chased by wolves. It is wicked pretty at times though.

I feel like Drew would have ate this survival simulator uuuup. Other than that I've learned that you shouldn't sleep out in the wild... for it could be your LAST sleep!

A vast majority of the people don't butcher for their own mean but I mean, as long as you recognize that a cow was butchered at some point in the process for your meat and unless you're really paying attention and doing research on where you get your meat from, you can probably assume that the livestock was raised and/or butchered in poor ways.

Boy - what is going on with the Production situation for GBW this week?

Initially little surprised by Jeff's reaction to the Rabbit bit - that said maybe I remember that same opinion from a Far Cry QL? The Rabbit kill is identical to the Little Sisters a decade ago.

Edit: 23:54 A Fork.

I had been keeping this game in mind for years, waiting for it to come out of Early Access to maybe check it out. I love the idea of a "see how long you can survive" game in theory, and thought maybe this would be The One. After having watched this though, it looks waaaaaay too deep for me.

Wearing wet and frozen clothes, stopping to kill rabbits when you already have food and you're freezing, failing to seek out shelter before dark, putting yourself into near-hypothermia to harvest a deer carcass with torn, thin clothes on not once but twice...

This was like watching someone who never played a Dark Souls-type game before try to play Dark Souls, horribly suck at it, and say "Screw this game." Except even worse than that because Dark Souls doesn't have a noob mode, which is what this story mode totally is. I mean, saves? Up until the latest patch, this game was permadeath. And Survival mode (the real game) continues to be permadeath.

Stop complaining and get good.

These comments are making me a bit reluctant to watch the video. I've put a couple hundred hours into this in early access and loved it, so if they're going to do the typical thing of blaming the "shitty Steam survival game" if they don't understand all the mechanics within twenty minutes it'll be a bit grating.

I agree, but I think the devs are trying to showcase how much more food you need to survive when it is that cold outside. Shivering can burn 100 calories in 15 minutes.

The Forest was the only one of these that sorta interested me, if only because it felt like a single player Rust at the time and there's NO way I'm playing Rust with randos online. (I suppose it isn't that unique anymore)

Also, holy hell The Forest is still in early access too.

I love GB and there quick looks, most of the time it really helps me get a feel for the game and if I want to buy it but with that said. I feel like they should have started this game from the beginning to show people the cut scenes and how some of the stuff works. This game is great though if u have patience and can be even a little bit smart on how to survive. With that said brad was only 10-15 minutes away from getting to the town if he followed the road. Also next time sleep in the car haha. In the town the story starts to open up some more but also helps guid people a bit and give them directions

Apart from Brad saying "I don't really like standing next to a fire and watching meters go down", I don't recall that much complaining in this Quick Look. For that matter, Brad seemed to be impressed with the game even if it isn't his thing and I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to give it some more of his time.

Also there are way more appropriate video comment threads to complain about how bad any given GB member is at any given game.

Man this game looks so cool and reading the description on the steam page says they have challenges like gathering supplies to prepare for a blizzard or to survive being hunted by a bear! It sounds so awesome...

But every time I try to play these survival games I just don't have the patience for them. Really want to give this game a try but I just envision myself quitting after 2 hours.

I feel like maybe Brad wouldn't have died of hypothermia multiple times if when he made the fire he just loaded it with wood so it was maximum burn, instead of getting it half going and then watching it barely restore his body temp/barely thaw his frozen clothing.

Anyway, seems like a neat game. I kinda wish Breath of the Wild had been like, halfway between this game and what's actually in Breath of the Wild, in terms of extreme temperature survival stuff? Like, the concept of surviving out in the elements and having to prepare for a trek up a mountain is a cool idea, but BotW makes it so easy to find gear that just gives you permanent temperature resist so you really don't have to do much else to deal with extreme temperatures. It's really cool that the torch in BotW raises your temperature enough to go into some cold areas, but it's also a bummer that you'll only ever really bother doing that in the Great Plateau.

I am actually kinda curious what games prompted Nintendo to put in that temperature gauge in BotW, or if it's an idea they had ages ago but were only recently allowed to try putting in the game.
