Also, if you don't understand why I prefer games unedited or with Japanese voices, that's okay. You don't have to understand. There are things people like that I don't understand, and that's also okay. We all just need to respect that each of us likes different things. That's all.

Hopefully, people don't give out the cheeky response of "Localization is inherently editing," as a bark back.

Ultimately, the Nintendo localization thing makes me sad. I understand why Nintendo is doing it, as well as how this is consistent with how they think to best treat their games in the past. But as some one who says Macross first rather than (the first part of) Robotech, Nintendo's localization MO is... violently out of touch with the expectations of enthusiastic sectors of their audience. (Nintendo being out of touch, also consistent with history.)

As for the forum back and forth, I chop that up to people raising eyebrows and what-have-you to any persons or people trying hard lines in any subject, art or otherwise.

This probably says more about me but what is the deal with the bust size in this game?! Did Austin set his age to 99 or something? Regardless this looks cool as hell. Yet another thing I'm missing out on by not owning a WiiU. Thanks for the quick look. Austin thanks for the memories. I have a feeling there will be a lot less anime video game quick looks going forward and that makes me sad.

@henchman_72: Not buying the game isn't a good solution. Also, just because some of us greatly disagree with Nintendo's localization practices, doesn't mean we can't buy and enjoy their games.

Personally, I wasn't going to buy the game; I have a million things I want to do, so missing out on one game in the grand scheme of things doesn't bother me. However, with the release of the restoration patch, I did buy the game because now I can enjoy the game the way I want to.

I shouldn't have to wade through the murky waters of modding, but now I get to play the game the way I want and you get to play it the way you want. Not referring to you here, but I feel like from both sides of this localization argument, people keep trying to convert everyone to their side. I don't know why we can't just agree on everyone just having different preferences.

Persona 5 is in a similar situation for me. If they don't end up giving me a way to play with the Japanese voices, I won't be playing the game. End of story. However, some people like to attack that stance because for some reason I'm not allowed to prefer Japanese voices or some people say we should just learn Japanese if we care so much (which is just ridiculous — give me a break).

Also, if you don't understand why I prefer games unedited or with Japanese voices, that's okay. You don't have to understand. There are things people like that I don't understand, and that's also okay. We all just need to respect that each of us likes different things. That's all.

Because if at the end of the day it didn't really matter or diminishes your experience, what was the point of being up in arms about it.

And if you have ever learned a new language or know another language, you know that conversations play out completely different and there are cultural and social nuances to that, so yeah, if you really cared, you would learn the language.

They have always put family friendliness first, although it was weird when they allowed stuff like Call of Duty Black Ops II.

...what? Call of Duty was published by Activision and Nintendo hasn't restricted third party publishers in a very long time, aside from that thing with The Binding of Isaac.

Considering how they position themselves in the market as centering around a kids experience it is weird seeing stuff like that, didn't say they had a third-party policy of censorship.

No matter what the localization team removes or alters, the response to the opposition to those changes always will be something like "oh you just want to see anime boobs, you goddamn weaboo. shut up!"

My question is: why can't they make the "censored" version the standard one and make a patch for those who want the game to be as faithful to the original as possible?

They did patch it, so all is good if you want that.

You are encouraging the toxic behavior we see from people. Do you want everyone that dislikes these localizations to be ARGG FUCK THIS GAME NEVER BUYING IT IT FUCKING SUCKS? How is that helpful? How is my opinion that the localization is bad invalidated just because I also like the game? Should people not buy any game they have any issues with? Just because someone likes a game and buys it does not mean the changes didn't effect your experience. Look at all the people that have bought the game that are fine with the changes. Would their experience with the game not be different if this stuff wasn't cut from the game? Would they have to also immediately hate it if they didn't like the more skimpy outfits and other things? Also claiming that people should learn a ridiculously hard language if they actually care about this stuff in games is fucking ludicrous. Especially when it wouldn't even matter because this game is region locked.

I wasn't talking about a fan made patch. Is there an official patch I'm not aware of?

I'm all for choice but don't come out like the whole product is now defunct and the value of the experience somehow has plummeted to 'now it's not worthy.' With any localization you get something nothing like the original, subtitles aren't any better than dubs other than you like the sound of Japanese or it has a better emotional tone etc., which is fine. You might get an experience you may like better in a localization. You will always lose something in translation, not knowing the language diminishes the original way more than not having gravure models; I stand by learn the language because it is the experience as intended if that is what you want.

there is a patch, but you have to do something weird to get it to work, didn't say it was official. I should have clarified.

I say wait for DLC cause some of the stuff will probably be there.

Yeah you'll always lose something in translation unless the translation is super accurate and you know a lot about Japanese culture. I still think saying people should learn a language that takes years to learn if they want the most original is kind of sidestepping the argument of having localizations closer to the source.

Most probable reason for the lack of an official "unedit" patch or DLC? A lot of work to appease... however many people who would appreciate it. That patch needs to be made, tested, and possibly re-rated if the content garners a higher age rating. I don't know if I'm being too extreme to someone who is or has done the development, but I can imagine needing to essentially QA-ing the game almost twice for a hypotehtical "unedit" patch/DLC.

I assume some one has gone through the legwork of the argument, but one thing to point out is that TMS#FE is rated T by the ESRB for the USA.

Hmm, what did Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth get...

Oh, a T rating. You got to poke a nymph (I think?) chained to a bed in the former and take a hot spring bath in the latter.

I should do my due diligence with Japan's version of Chapter 2, but I can't imagine Genei Ibun Roku #FE engaging with the nether regions of gravure modeling in a severe-enough manner to push past a T rating. Apparently, Nintendo felt it would be in bad taste for everyone outside Japan.

@iloveyouprismo: Yeah, there's been a lot of voids like that. As a result, I've gone off GB in recent years and didn't resub this year. And *points to icon*, found new outlets along the way...

There is barely anything resembling FE here and it is less SMT and more Persona, but without any of the charm that makes those games good.
