The only remake I can think of on this scale is Metroid Zero Mission. There's probably something else, but nothing else is coming to mind.

I just finished Leon A and am now on Claire B. I had a lot of fun with Leon's playthrough but I'm not really sure how I feel about playing through the whole game again.

Capcom really should have defaulted the PC version to REC.709. I bet so many people play through with those crappy black levels. Real shame considering all the dark areas. I believe the consoles are at least.

So, remake: Fully new assets, usually significant changes to the engine (and a different engine), usually big changes to surrounding elements like story, music, VO, etc. It's a NEW game.

Remaster: They're taking original game code and they're in some way updating it, up-resing it, fixing it, maybe even adding things to it but not re-MAKING it.

Port: They took the original game and moved it over, wholecloth, maybe some slight updates to visuals or sound to accommodate the new hardware, maybe even added content but the majority of it is the same. Identical.

This probably won't help Abby, but the RE1 remake was also a true remake and not a remaster. The FFVII remake is potentially one also from what's been told about it, but who knows if any of those details will make it to the final product.

Also... closing up windows *was* in RE2. In two specific hallways on the police station. It's just that it was closing metal shutters instead.

@ooblix: It's ridiculous how bad the default Srgb color space setting is. It looks horrible and is not an intuitive setting to change as most monitors are rated on their Srbg color gamut. I didn't know it could not look unbelievably washed out until I hooked up my PS4 to the same monitor and tried the demo there. Even then it took some Googling. I also had to use unintuitive brightness settings that did not correlate with the images to make it look acceptable. Maybe it's geared towards TN panels and not IPS ones. It's still very annoying and odd that it's only the default on PCs. My only guess is popular consumer monitor consideration.

My advice: Play on hardcore. Autosave isnt Resident Evil!

It 100% becomes a horror-ass-horror game on hardcore.

I don't think this is going to be a playthrough. So you shouldn't watch it, if that's your criteria. You are missing out, though, by skipping this video. It's pretty fun!

In case any of the Giant Bomb staff read this, I do think the audience would enjoy more playthroughs. Particularly of bad, old FMV games. (Know your audience, Giant Bomb! Me!)

Should stream the whole game Abby. Just watched Huber from Easy Allies play the whole thing for 11 hours both A and B runs, a was fun watch. Seeing you guys freak out on this playthrough though would be amazing.

The little asides the characters give during combat are giving me intense Deadly Premonition vibes.

i enjoy watching this. honestly waiting for six crazy frights is too long of a wait in october i rather watch this in its entirety. but id settle for this and eager to listen to what abby's thought of re2 on beastcast. if you havent already, i'd recommmend to listen to 8-4 play podcast thoughts on RE2. Its pretty insightful too.

Would also love to see a full playthrough video series of this from Abby and the crew, but glad this Playdate happened regardless. Was a fun watch!

I like how Dan gives Psycho as an example of how they remake movies and those come out different... while Psycho is a shot-for-shot remake of the original

This is great. Resident Evil 2 was one of my favorite games as a kid. Claire has the best story too.

While you're waiting a fun playthrough that I enjoyed watching was Shroud on twitch. He had never played a RE game before and he really loved it, played through A as Claire and B as Leon so far.

@theshrubber: It may be a "shot-for-shot" remake, but they still added stuff to it and it's own thing. Just copy pasting the original movie doesn't automatically make it the same movie or a good one at that.

I'm really conflicted about this game. On the one hand I really dig the treatment they gave one of my all time favourite ps1 games, the atmosphere is amazing and it's such a joy to see a location which I'm so intimately fammiliar with reimagined In such detail yet still feel true to the spirit of the original and just Playing a Resident Evil game that's an actual "Survival Horror" game makes me a very happy boy.

But on the other hand I had hoped they would have given it a similar treatment as they gave to RE1 with the gamecube remake, and extend the the story and scope of the game. If anything it feels like the game is a lot shorter than the original was, and from what I've seen so far there seems to be less of a split between "Leon A, Claire B and Clair A, Leon B" scenarios than there was in the original.

Since I'm gainfully employed again these days I really can't say I regret buying it as soon as it came up for sale, but had I still been uneployed and scraping by I'm not so sure I would have bought this day one full price.

All in all I still really really like the game I just whish there was a bit more of it.

It's wild that I have beaten this game, am playing it again, have watched a LOT of people play through this first part AND the demo, and I'm still not even CLOSE to sick of it.

There is something weird and wonderfully magical about this remake! I also love the small things that are different, like what the characters notice and how other NPCs interact with them. Leon noting that it's a cop being chased while Claire notes that the zombies are inside the station, and things like that.

Also I want more Abby VS horror games. Halloweentime is NOT enough!

Yes Vinny yasss. Leon looks all kinds of fucked up, and Claire too. The rest of their games look incredible but Capcom has some seriously weird stuff happening with their face rendering. A lot of what they've shown of DMCV has jacked-up faces, too.

The Abby scream + jump scare that makes Alex and Dan jump is a masterpiece. Abby content is by far my fav!

Awww man I was hoping Abby would save this for Six Crazy Frights but oh well, maybe she'll play it again.
