Maybe you guys return to the topic and its mentioned, but The Fly is a good movie with bad science. Most science babble in Cronenberg films is just an excuse to make bodies get gross.

Weird Science doesn't hold up but it's definitely worth watching again if you haven't seen it in years and enjoyed it in your youth. It is also quite possibly Robert Downey Jr.'s finest roll.

I 100% recommend The Day After Tomorrow for bad science month. There's a part where melting ice caps somehow cause tornados to destroy LA. It's really dumb and good.

In all seriousness, a "bad science" film and 40's would be amazing... Specially if you found a guest who was good at the science.

Abby should cosplay as Ramon Salazar. For no reason.

Should remind Abby about using roundhouse kicks and suplexes on staggered enemies. It's pretty useful in RE4. She was utilizing melee initially, but seems to have forgotten with the long breaks between play sessions.

Oh the expressions on Abby and Dan here are wonderful.

Like Alex's ex, my wife is a geologist and she loves The Core and other science/weather disaster movies too.

RE Afficionado Tim Turi is a big fan of the Red 9 and I'll bet that's why Dan is giving it a shot. It's pretty nasty, especially when you add that stock to it. Has some real punch.

Glad to see the name of the game in the title. I don't watch every Playdate, so seeing "Playdate: Resident Evil 4" on the front page of the site grabs my attention more than if it was just Playdate 6/28/19 - which I may or may not click through to see what they played and if I'm interested in it.

This is kind of a bit cheaty, but you can force checkpoints by going in and out of the load doors. So if a part like the catapults happens you can snipe the first two guys, leave back through the door where the merchant is, and then you wouldn't have had to deal with the two on the ledge every time. It would have made that part a little less frustrating, and it's doubtful you wouldn't kill those guys.

I do wish Dan would mention the trick with one of the weapons, because the game will never tell Abby, and it's not a spoiler. It would just help out with some of the bigger, more intense encounters. (especially the room at the end)

The series is a lot of fun though, it's nice to see people's first experiences with Resident Evil 4. There's still a bunch of much crazier stuff to come.

@eedobaba: day after tomorrow is legitimately one of favourite bad films. Crappy science or not, it's great also more and more relevant as we move further into a world neglecting global warming.

Perhaps the most entertaining thing about this feature is watching Dan. First off, I applaud his patience.

And his facial expressions when Abby figures something out or his reaction to Abbys reckless playstyle. Amazing stuff. Gotta love Dan.

On the topic of escort missions:

Perhaps Dan was blinded by his MGS love,but Emma from MGS2 was quite the hassle. Mind you, it wasn't hard really but just incredibly tedious. And I'm someone who considers MGS2 to be one of myfavourite games of all time.

Bad science movie = Twister

this has become one of my favorite single game playthroughs on this site for sure

@moda: IMO, more book club. They did it once for Sphere like 6 years ago, I would love that to happen again: read a book and hear people talk about it for 3 hours.

I also dated a geologist, and her entire department would get drunk and watch The Core. It sounds like a good time.

I just about came when Abby bought that Blacktail! Fully upgraded it's my favorite gun in the game.

Man, it hurts to see Abby wasting her money upgrading those starter weapons. You get much better ones later on. Best to just save the money for those.

So happy to hear them talking about Film and 40’s again. One of my absolute favorite features on the site.

I don’t understand why RE4 gets so much praise tbh. All the instant-kill gimmicks, and stunlocks and such throughout the game are just atrocious.

This continues to be one of the best things on this site right now. Loving it.

@jakxt: ehhh you have to think about the time it came out and what action games were back then. I've never played RE4 but I can see why it's so loved.

Dan's face was amazing, very impressed by his patience.

Not knowing the usefulness of the flash bangs by the time you get to the water room is a problem.

I don't understand why this is so hard. It really isn't. Abby is completely ignoring the first rule of every shooter: If it's a red barrel, it EXPLODES!!

40-45min in I think Dan wants to take the controller from Abby lol

After Terminator 2 was mentioned, I just noticed how similar Edward Furlong and Leon look during Leon's codec/radio bits during the game (right around the 59min mark for example).

You guys should do a Film and 40's for Blue Velvet. I'd much rather hear drunken commentary over weird art films than dumb action films.
