Really enjoyed this. I would definitely love to see more of these. Maybe even a review video that you can do 3 or 4 indie's or smaller game releases in one sitting.

So I (and a few friends) actually wrote to the Bombcast a week or so ago, pointing out that only 4 reviews had been made this year and HO-LY-SHIT do you guys ramp it up by introducing this feature. As someone who thoroughly enjoys reading the reviews and find them to be pretty much the best on the net when it comes to the depth and really go through what is good and what is less so in a game in text form, this is nothing short of a fantastic expansion on that. Sure, there's still only been 5 reviews this year, but considering Jeff and the duders have been considering different approaches, I can fully understand why there only has been a several until now. - More of this. <>

I like the new format. My main comment is that it felt like a lot of this was said already (almost verbatim) on the bombcast. So if you have an audio review coming up, maybe it would be better to avoid talking about it until the review is up? Just a thought.

The review link on the front page doesn't indicate that there's a video within. Should the video be playable from the front page?

I really like this idea.

I'm a huge fan of this long-form review format. Especially since we're getting context from other bombers that aren't the primary reviewer. This is also great for exposure to their opinions as far as the archive goes, looking for input from the individual podcasts isn't a great experience.

I like that multiple reviewers can weigh-in on this format. It reminds me of game of the year deliberations. My concern is that people will start to repeat themselves across the podcast, quicklook, and this review format. Perhaps you guys could ease up on talking about a game on the podcast if you choose to make a review video for it.

I really like how Waypoint does article reads with a freeform conversation following the prewritten read through of the article. It really works for them and this I think really works for GB.

I enjoy the Waypoint article reads as well, although I think this is missing the "article" portion of that. The written piece that accompanied this was really underwhelming. Going forward, I'd like to either see them write a full, normal review to go alongside the discussion or just not write anything at all. Either way, that 3 paragraph blurb that Ben did for this one seemed really weird, in my opinion.

As much as I appreciate the idea, I fail to see the benefit of this verses the Podcast/Quick Look combo. As one who follows the content of the site pretty closely, it felt fairly redundant. But that's me.

*Edited to add* Dumb me just realized this is a way for future folks to find your thoughts on a game without having to dig through a portion of the podcast here or cursory thoughts from a Quick Look.

@curryspiced: In retrospect, I think I agree with you. I feel the conversation was both too structured and too a little all over the place. This is the first attempt and I'm confident they will get to a better balance in the future but the format needs some time to bake for sure.

Just finished listening and think this is a great change. I love the deep dive discussion on the game and the format. I do think future reviews could expand on the written portion a little more compared to the few paragraphs for this review but not go as far as reviews have used to be.

Loving the format. I've been watching less videos to try and distance myself from relying on a screen to keep me informed and updated, but this type of podcast would be awesome as far as keeping me in-the-loop.

I dig it. It's a good balance between the video reviews and the written ones. It might be cool to have a bit of a longer written review, but an in-depth discussion dedicated to a single game is super cool.

Edit: Also interview Brad is so good. I'm so so happy that he gets to slip back into his interview persona, he's got an incredible knack for asking the right questions at the right times.

I enjoy a game-specific podcast-style review/video. But, I also do enjoy the more lengthy write-ups. I've particularly enjoyed reading Brad, Dan, and Alex's writing. Hope to see some more of that still. Anyhoo, I like this new approach. Given it is more discussion style, I'd say open it up to being cross-coast maybe, if audio quality permits and there are multiple people that have the time to play said game. Looking forward to more, thanks guys!

I have had the question why there is no audio reviews on site and have been thinking that I should write to bombcast and ask about it. As listening to a review gives a lot more freedom how and when I consume the review where as the written reviews, at least myself I won't give enough attention. Instead I get my info usually from quick look + the podcast(s).
The only thing for me might be that if you can squeeze it in a bit shorter format than an hour, but otherwise really great.

I love this, but I do hope this format doesn't take anything away from discussing the reviewed games on the podcast.

Personally, I'd love one of these for Battle for Azeroth. I'd specifically like to hear @brad's thoughts on the game (beyond the QL) some weeks into it (that is, if he has had the time or interest to have played it since the week of release), given his lengthy break from the game.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this. I get why some people like it, but for me, I hear plenty of talk about new games in other Giant Bomb content (bombcast, beastcast, etc). I'm not going to listen to an additional hour podcast about a single game. I would rather just read a written review if it's a game I want to know more about.

I like the idea of a review interview as centrepiece with a smaller written thing on the side, especially when talking about stuff is your forte.

That said, i feel that the ratio is off with this being an hour long interview and the written review being a 1 min read that mostly feels like a dry archival entry to know which boxes the game ticks. Web slinging? good. Story? It has one that's conventional but surprising at times. Upgrades? Sure.

Instead of learning about the game, i mostly learn about the GB template of 1st paragraph: Introduction 2nd paragraph: Best thing 3rd paragraph: Worst thing. If there was no score on that page, you wouldn't have a clue how well Ben actually liked it.

I certainly had my attention wane at certain points in this hour long interview. But when you hear Ben talk about all the charming stuff in this game (faux Alex Jones, self awareness on spidey's behalf, all the enemies you want being in this, MJ having to balance her relationship with a superhero & making her own career succeed etc.) It's a shame none of that comes across in the written review.

Is this different than the podcast discussion or is it just that bit of the Bombcast cut out into its own segment?

FYI: Massive spoiler in this so I would recommend waiting until after you finish the game to watch. Surprised they have not added a spoiler tag...

To answer Jeff's question about the mid level loading, you can trigger a load screen while in mid swing if you immediately finish an Oscorp research node and jump into swinging into the city. The game will give you the loading screen (maybe to load up world assets?) but you can regularly trigger this by just being impatient when clearing the map.

I keep hearing Ben talking about Mr Negative being new. He is not new, he's been around for at least close to a decade or even more than that. He's not to the games and he's only relatively new the comics. He's been in the comics far longer than someone like Miles Morales. Just thought I'd throw that out.

Why does Ben keep calling this a "movie game"? This game isn't tied to any film and isn't licensed from the films; its not even tied to Spider-Man: Homecoming. This is just a game based on Spider-Man in a new world created by Insomniac.

I really hope they add a bunch of costumes in the DLC. There are some fantastic costumes that aren't in there but we do get...2 2099 suits? Weird. No Superior, no Future Foundation, no black suit, no Steel Spider, etc, etc.

Fantastic game.

I like this a lot and I feel it should be more developed/prepared, but I think the written review should still be significant. It is a nice reference overall, even for games nowadays that get patched.

This was really great. I'd love to see more of this but I hope it doesn't replace the text reviews.
