Unfinished: Rune II 07/15/2019 EX

I remember playing the original Rune and I wouldn't have expected that game to get a sequel in, well, ever.

It's always nice to see my real name on a game character. Sven Two-Hammers from Skyrim is my favorite.

@hassun: Arguably, it's still not getting a sequel. This isn't Rune, and it looks awful. The devs recently changed the name to "Rune 2" to trick more people into buying their vacuous survival game. It's disgusting.

These people made The Quiet Man.

This looks rough/early, but still promising.

They kept mentioning the devs name as Chris the whole time and I'm like Chris who? what's his last name?! Rhinehart??

I been a fan since Heretic. I mean I just googled it and found out it is indeed him. Super glad to see he's working on something new

Also, they may have made Quiet Man but they also made the original Rune, so really who else would make the sequel?

This is a strange video for GB. Having the developer on to showcase their unfinished, rough looking game feels off. Is there a reason the crew couldn't just show this and be free to call out or praise as they see fit?

@mrbubbles: I KNOW RIGHT! I just went to post the same thing! I squeezed a bunch of deathmatch hours out of the first game back in college...

@purc: It's not that strange, they've done many Quick Look EX's before, for many years now. And AFAIK it's as simple as they wouldn't have a game to Quicklook if the developer doesn't bring it along.

@mason_pat: Yeah, I hear you and understand the dynamic of the developer bringing it to show. But they always feel sterile or strangely stilted compared to regular content. Obviously, they're welcome to make any content but stuff like this always feels like it runs a little counter to the free-wheeling origin of GB.

I looove the original Rune... I do not love the look of this.

Epic Store exclusive, thus I don't give a shit about this game anymore. Call me when it comes back to Steam again.

Also this looks nothing like Rune. I mean I get it, its their game series etc, but this wasn't Rune. Expand on Rune and all that, but don't call it specifically Rune 2. Call it Rune: Ragnarok or something else.

Oh wow! An open world survival game with roguelike elements?! I’m so excited. There’s never been anything like this before! And they added a heavy attack? Holy poop guys - this is outside the box!

Also, weapon durability is my favorite.

For some reason when I first casually glanced at the thumbnail my immediate thought was "what the fuck is Illidan Stormrage doing on a boat? And where are his wings?"

Huh. Well this *kinda* looks like the original Rune, which was a rad game.... another Epic exclusive though? Yikes.

@stradalemc: I know no one cares about my one purchase. But when enough people agree with me and it makes a dent in the bottom line due to this decision, then they will care more. Look at what happened with Shenmue III (though to be fair they didn't really fix the issue that kicked that one off) and other games now. As Epic pushes and keeps pushing consumers into this situation (basically forcing a portion of the target audience to literally hate them) eventually they will get enough pushback to change somewhat. Or not. Who knows anymore.

Wow, that's really neat. This EX would have been so much better if it was Brad and Jeff talking to him about Heretic (no offense to Ben).

I dont want to be negative, especially on an unfinished, but this looks.... bad? I never played Rune, so I have no idea if this is a faithful sequel or whatever, but I want nothing to do with this game.

Man I really can't believe they made a sequel to rune? This was my first or second pc game actually, and i wasn't a big fan of it sadly. I had rune and max payne before i even knew what a graphics card was lol.

My point with the Quiet Man is that they have been making garbage for decades, and that QM is the latest example. What is your point with Rune? but... i know its unfinished. they need to change the characters movement and add more attacks. guy moves like gabe logan from syphon filter. hope it turns out decent though.

Look at the live action director and crew. As well as Omnibus Japan/ Cogitowork, D1, Square Enix Co. HH didn't do everything dude. Kensei Fujinaga and Joe Kelly are ultimately responsible. So yes, HH helped.

I also know they originally were calling this Rune: Ragnarok but along with the EGS deal they changed the name etc. And as I said, this literally isn't Rune anymore and should have kept the Ragnarok tagline on it. But it is their game series and they can do what they want (make it open world, make it EGS exclusive, etc etc) as I also said. I just feel like they are spitting in the face of everyone who loved the original (hell I still play the original, even online when I can find a match!) so to speak.

But who knows, maybe we're all getting bent out of shape for nothing and the game will turn out awesome. This QL EX doesn't give me much hope beyond just you know, hoping for the best lol but I've been proven wrong by QL's and what not before.

Hey remember B games? I'm way into this, this is a video game ass video game.
There used to be a lot more "medium budget" game studios, now you're either AAA or two dudes in a basement, we need more wholesome video games!

I will say it does look like a Rune 2.... that would have been developed 10-15 years ago!

Rune is a rough game to go back to and I'll be honest didn't need a sequel as the only thing memorable in that game was multiplayer and cutting off peoples limbs.

Nights are pretty dark! Shouldn't the braziers that are around brighten things more than the torch you pop out?

bring this guy back to talk about human head's work on the quiet man PLEASE (pretty sure they just provided help on it, square enix was definitely the lead dev on it). This game looks decent to me for a non-AAA action/adventure game.
