Wow, right out of the gate here, online passes going completely away is pretty big.

Wow... a high level businessman making logical sense in a personal 1 on 1 interview? Amazing. I love what he says right out of the gate about doing away with online passes. If you already have to pay to play a game online, why would you need to pay more to play specific games online?

Right away he comes across as a genuinely nice guy. Looking forward to listening to all of this.

Sony got me back.

Some people are kinda down on Sony charging for online multiplayer, but millions of people have paid a monthly fee to play WoW, so this doesn't seem crazy to me. I have paid for Xbox Live since 2003 or whenever it came out, however, so maybe my perspective on this is different.

What a great interview.

Whoever is pulling the strings at Sony is doing a damn good job right now. It goes such a long way just to be socially aware of the desires of your fanbase; it's crazy how much of that is being ignored by MS right now.

I really hope this can last. Hearing that takedown at the end of the Sony conference was highly cathartic after the months of dismissive attitude MS has given us.

Good interview although one thing I want to do with regards to self-publishing is how/if Sony will be curating that. Obviously you would have to be a registered Sony developer to get the devkits and SDKs, but will they be doing an extra level of Valve-style curation?

Nice interview, despite some awkward pauses (I assume Patrick was going through the questions).

Good to hear that "common sense" informs much of Sony's decision-making.

It genuinely surprised me how straight this guy is and it was really great to hear their willingness to get back to Patrick on the more difficult questions. Here's to hoping they follow through on that.

Well at one point Sony asked themselves what was more profitable, a 400$ console + the online fee, or a 500$ console with free online.

This guy comes across really well. As if he's an actual human being or something. A big contrast with creepy non-human corporate suits like Mattrick.

I don't have a twitter account but the main question I have is, on the digital side, retail game releases on the PSN in EU are usually outrageously higher then they should be, I can and expect to buy games for £40 through retail, yet I've seen games ranging from £48-60+. This maybe is done more by third party publishers, but basically what I want to know is will Sony recognise the issue and try and curb publishers to post more reasonable prices?

Cool interview, keep the dump truck rolling Patrick. Lots of questions I had myself, and maybe still do, the price of that GDDR5 ram is still in the back of my head (how much of a loss are they selling this thing at?) None the less, Rohde sounds like a cool dude.
