F the Haters this is my favorite Mario game hands down, and I grew up with the 2D games on the NES and SNES. Love this one better than World and 3 for the NES. STEP TO ME!

I like this idea a lot. It's a great summer game and them taking turns along with some light Ryckerting is a fun twist

It never occurred to me back in the day but I've never actually seen Petey Piranha attack before.

That whole projectile vomit thing, not to mention the spawning of big shit covered blob things, is pretty bizarre for Mario o_O

EDIT: Pretty sure Dan is just trying to insert bullshit Mario Party rules into this game with all these gum balls. The combination of Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Party everyone was waiting for.

Before watching the stream I wasn't sure. Now I'm extra sure, @jeff was right about this game all along. It doesn't look like an unmitigated train wreck but this level design and camera work does not seem up to the standards that even 64 set. Personally I didn't much care for this concept. I don't like this insistence of arbitrarily turning this into a competition in which Dan just comes up with nonsense rules on the fly for what is basically just a pass-n-play. Abby, Alex, and Vinny carried this video as one would expect but I can't help but feel like they're being antagonized here. I just don't see the point of this other than for Dan to prove how much of a brand siren he is by pretending that Mario games are somehow all infallible. I'd take a grip of random Quick Looks or a series featuring a better video game over more of this any day but that's just me.

I... agree with Jeff. The game looks like it's missing that certain something other Mario games have. It just seems off somehow. Can't quite put my finger as to why.

I love this game. Hope that they come around to it. The objectives are sometimes pretty obtuse but the actual platforming really does feel great. The backflips and spin jumps and stuff give you a lot of options, and with the hover platforming is rarely frustrating once you understand how to use it. I really do hope that they have fun with this!

I usually hate inverted controls but in this game I think it kind of fits and feels natural.

Was really excited for this but the moaning is kinda killing it for me. Fair enough with the inverted camera. It certainly doesn't help that they're switching and don't have much time to get used to it but after each of them played for about 10 minutes each they've already decided that the controls aren't good even though they clearly haven't learned how to do much of anything yet apart from standard jumping.

I mean hell, if you're having difficulty with the spraying which is either lightly press R or fully press R then maybe withold judgement a bit longer...

This is a great feature! Mario Sunshine is also great.

This game is amazing. The thing is once you get used to the controls you cant go back to other 3D Platformers easily. The whole game feels like such a breath of fresh air for the Mario franchise which has been incredibly polished but bland in recent years with the over saturation with the likes of the New Super Mario Bros games. Luckily Odyssey looks incredible.

I think it's a great game. The world is way more interesting than on Galaxy games imo and it still follows the "open world" that I so much adore on Mario 64. The nature of small confined areas in Galaxy always bothered me. Major downside with sunshine was at times the lack of fluidness in movement with removal of things like long jump and punishments built in the areas. On the other hand Galaxy games was return to form in that department.

It looks like Mario Odyssey will bring both. Controls and fluid movement, as well as the more open areas to explore. My only reservations are some small Sonic Adventure vibes I'm getting at points.

This game always makes me feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. People have this instant visceral reaction of animosity towards it that just makes no sense to me.

I mean... I don't think it's the most amazing Mario game or anything. There's a bit of a learning curve compared to most Mario's I suppose. But the hatred? The instant disdain? I don't get it.

You run and jump around. Is it because it's not easy and expects you to conform to it's eccentricities instead of, itself, conforming to player expectations? Some people, maybe most people, seem to hate that.

It's perfectly ok, if not exactly amazing. I still like it better then Galaxy if only because it still retains at least some kind of move set for Mario. Galaxy was too simple to me. Mario 64 is still my favorite simply because Mario has the most movement and control options.

Easily my second favorite 3D Mario game.

Normally I'm all for Vinny's propensity to wander and explore, but that does not seem to mesh well with this game.

This seems like a game that has a lot of fun movement options, a great amount of airtime, but lacks tight leveldesign.

Still think it's unfair to the game that most of them played for a single shine, declared the game feels bad, while remarking that Dan has much more control over the game , making jokes about him bringing the hot strats . At that point, it's clear that the game controls a lot better in Dan's hands, which means that maybe the game deserves more time before judgment is declared .

Listen, I'm not saying the controls are the best, but aside from the inverted camera, they're looking for excuses for their terrible play, especially Alex. Also, when it comes to camera controls, Galaxy's was terrible too.
