Quick Look: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I’ve always liked the look of Smash but I’ve never played one. Is this one worth getting if I don’t have friends to play the game with so I would be primarily playing singleplayer and with my wife? Is online with random people even remotely an option?

I can't believe they didn't play my favorite character.

Aw Jeff was a good boy and didnt shit on Smash, I didnt even notice until the end. Weird how being empathetic towards others makes things better.

This is much better than the Smash Wii U quick look. People that actually seem like they enjoy the game!

So, I am starting a new job in January and am not working much until then. So I have some time to kill. In other words, I am going to play the hell out of this game.

Early reports are that online is terrible (as usual). At least the premier offline mode seems good this time.

Just like with Mario Odyssey reviews, I don't expect to hear any real criticism about this game, just different ways of expressing how it's fun. Another vague cycle of Nintendo reviews based on the indefinable "fun" metric. Bonus points for "joy" and "delight" and "making you feel like a kid again." That's fine, I hope people enjoy this, but this series is so incredibly safe and stale to me at this point.

@itsahme: should have read the comments before starting this video. I had to tear them off. I enjoy Ben and his...enthusiasm, but goodness.

I'm probably the only person that said Hell Yeah to seeing "(2006 E3 Trailer version)".

At 24:21 I love that weird extra hyphen in the song title ( - 2006 E3 Version -). It reminds me of the old days of maintaining a music library and having a bunch of mp3s from Kazaa with inconsistent, poorly named tracks.

Did Jeff actually sit in on a quick look for Smash Bros without taking a gigantic dump on it? Well, good on him, that is pretty refreshing to see!

the single player looks good for those interested. I'm one of those crazy people ben talked about who only care about the competitive and in that regard i thought smash 4 was pretty bad. We'll see how this one ends up.

He was doing it in the Let's Go Pikachu QL too. For some reason, Ben's pronunciation of "Haunter" bothers me more than Dan's pronunciation of "Epona."

"Ellen" is Dr.Strangelove from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. I am still bummed out how her character ended up in MGSV. Peace Walker would not be a bad game to play on the Nintendo Switch.

I bet this will be playable on Ryujinx and Yuzu shortly.

@dasakamov: didnt say that. Empathy is not making shitty comments when someone starts talking about games they like. Jeff did that and it was nice. I’ve seen it happen plenty. In some context, it’s fine. It’s a joke. Other times, it’s painful to hear when everyone else is just trying to talk about a game they like.

The GameCube controller adaptor also released for the Switch which is REALLY tempting me to get the set. I missed out on the old adaptor for WiiU

I've played 3-4 hours of this game...and really find it completely boring and uninteresting. The 3-4 hours I've played is the most I've put in since the original, and I can't understand how they think using sticks to control a fighting game is a good idea? Like, it made sense when I was 8 and liked bad things, but playing it now I am just aggravated every time I have to use the sticks.

Nothing feels good, the menus are very bad, and the World of Light is just a bunch of lame battles stuck on an overworld. That cool opening cutscene was all I saw in the 90 minutes I spent with it.

I wish I bought it physical so I could sell it.

I wasn't at all interested, after release I'm a bit interested but I'm not paying for online multiplayer anymore because I just don't play enough to ever justify the cost on any console and I don't have anyone to play locally. That SP mode isn't enough for me

It's SO good for a platform/action game! Maybe once ALL the fighting games have been scienced, there can be SOME room. Still a LOT of Dragon Ball to science...
